13 best garmin barometers

Garmin, a well-known manufacturer of GPS devices and accessories, includes barometric altimeters in some of its handheld GPS units, sports handheld GPS devices, and outdoor GPS accessories. Here's what you need to know about Garmin barometers:

  1. Barometric Altimeter: A barometric altimeter is a sensor that measures atmospheric pressure to estimate altitude. Garmin incorporates these altimeters into some of their products to provide more accurate altitude readings, which can be particularly useful for outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, climbers, and pilots.

  2. Elevation Data: Garmin devices equipped with barometric altimeters can provide accurate real-time elevation data during your outdoor activities. This data can help you track your altitude changes, ascent, and descent, which is crucial for activities such as hiking and mountaineering.

  3. Weather Forecasting: Some Garmin devices use the barometric pressure data to provide basic weather forecasting information. By monitoring changes in atmospheric pressure, these devices can predict short-term weather trends. Keep in mind that this feature is typically basic and may not replace dedicated weather forecasting tools.

  4. Calibration: To maintain the accuracy of the barometric altimeter, Garmin devices may allow users to calibrate the sensor manually or automatically. Calibration is essential, especially when changing altitude rapidly or when transitioning between different outdoor environments.

  5. Profiles and Customization: Garmin GPS units often offer various activity profiles, and users can customize data fields to display altitude-related information prominently on the screen.

  6. Data Logging: Some Garmin devices with barometric altimeters can log altitude data over time, allowing you to review your elevation changes during and after your activities.

  7. Battery Life: Using the barometric altimeter can consume more battery power compared to relying solely on GPS for altitude data. Users should be aware of this and plan accordingly for longer outings.

  8. Accuracy: Barometric altimeters are generally more accurate for altitude measurements than GPS alone, especially in challenging environments like deep canyons or dense forests, where GPS signals may be weak.

It's important to note that not all Garmin handheld GPS units, sports handheld GPS devices, or GPS accessories come with a barometric altimeter. When choosing a Garmin device for outdoor activities that require accurate altitude information, be sure to check the product specifications to confirm whether it includes a barometric altimeter. Additionally, it's a good idea to consult the user manual or Garmin's official website for specific details on how to use and calibrate the barometric altimeter on your chosen device.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this store music and play to a blue tooth headset
Answer: No It is a TACTICAL watch, was made for military use. I have it and have used it in Syria, Iraq and several other countries. It is a really good watch and has a great battery life, playing music would kill the battery.
Question: Can you download courses created from a 3rd party site as a .gpx or .tcx file? Or do you have to exclusively use Garmin Connect &/or Explore for that
Answer: For course creation other than Garmin Connect Garmin devices are compatible with Strava and Map My Run. For more information contact us at [email protected] or visit our Support Center, https://support.garmin.com/en-US/ Thanks Jenny
Question: Does this watch have a great compass,a good one, or none at all? I bought it for my son for Christmas the compass is an important feature for him
Answer: Good Compass but not great Hold down on one of the buttons and the watch face becomes a compass. It shows the degrees (0-360) and the general direction (SE for example). You would not use this watch to plot a course on a map. For that, you can buy a compass for less than $20 that lie flat on a map, can be adjusted for a magnetic correction, they have lines, etc.
Question: I do desert exploring on a polaris rzr. can i track my course while riding and then use it to return home the way i came
Answer: Yes, this function is available when set to a GPS activity. You can navigate back to the starting point of your current activity in a straight line or along the path you traveled

User questions & answers

Question: Does the 245 have wrist hr monitoring? my 235 has perfectly accurate wrist hr monitoring, and i would hate to lose that function with an 'upgrade
Answer: Yes it has hr wrist monitoring that I have found to be very accurate.
Question: Does it come with charger included
Answer: All Garmin devices come with a charger in the box. The included cable is data/charging cable for connecting to a computer for syncing data and charging. Blake with Garmin
Question: Does it tell altitudes
Answer: I love this watch. It does not have a barometer for altitude, but the GPS / Garmin connect figures the altitude from the maps (and from GPS until it looks at the maps). Fine if you're not counting stairs or mountain-biking seriously needing a barometer. Note, there are 2 versions, amazon lists it as one product, for example (Aqua-Music) 010-02120-22 is the ROW (rest-of-world) version and 010-02120-52 is the APAC (Asian-Pacific) version. The firmware releases are different !!! Not to mention the available languages. The suppliers ARE sending the APAC version without any way to tell (in Amazon) that that might happen. I love the watch. I did send back the APAC one that Amazon sent because I wanted to use beta firmware and order (for a higher price) from REI to get one that I know will be ROW. But for most people, probably they won't care, both have English and the same features...
Question: I see reviews mentioning asian version of the watch, which they mention is inferior. how can i make sure i get the us one/standard one
Answer: Not easily. Amazon fulfills it with third parties. There are (aqua-music) two product IDs: -22 and -52 for the ROW and APAC versions. Amazon is _LISTING_ the NON-Asian product ID - so you could keep ordering until they send you what they listed!!! What I did is once I realized I had an Asian one, I sent it back and ordered from REI. You can see a Product ID in the listing, it is the Rest-Of-World product ID. The difference that hit me is that the firmware isn't compatible - I didn't care about the languages, they both have English, but I wanted to install the 3.52 beta firmware - which is ROW only. :(

User questions & answers

Question: Can you switch the output to ten digit grid format
Answer: Thanks for the question. To add to the great answer you already got, you could use the included clip to clip it to your hat, but you might find it a bit heavy if it's on your brim, for example. The Canmore Golf GPS attaches to the clip using a magnet, so it's possible to remove it when you're ready to check the yardage. Please let us know if you have further questions or comments at [email protected].
Question: Does this provide both mgrs and lat/long
Answer: Have used it 4x since I bought it. Don’t know the magnet you are referring to. So far it’s doing great. Takes a long time to recharge.
Question: What is the onboard memory? And does it come with any topo maps
Answer: Thanks for the great question. The H-300 comes with a charging cord only. We recommend using a computer or laptop USB port to charge the device (using the included cable), since the power output is better regulated (5 volts). Phone chargers such as an iPhone charger can also be used but be sure to use a high quality charger that only provides 5v — some inexpensive 'fast charger' models, especially car chargers, can sometimes exceed 5v and damage your H-300. Lastly, always unplug the charging cable at both ends after use. Addicidental contact with conductive surfaces may damage the cable or charging port. Please let us know if you have further questions or comments at [email protected]. (Note that Amazon may not notify us when you reply here, so please use the email option if possible!)
Question: Would you recommend the Foretrex 601 for runners
Answer: In my case for a full season up north. Had about 60 rounds on the current batteries. The current batteries still working. I carry an extra in my bag just in case.

User questions & answers

Question: Do you have to have a cellphone to use this
Answer: No you don't, you can download your daily info to Garmin connect....this is a great watch
Question: Hello when will this watch be coming out? i know i read 5 to 6 weeks, but can you please provide a real date. i want it before april 1st
Answer: I ordered on January 13 and haven't heard anything about shipping. So I reached out to Garmin customer service today and they said it will be another 2-3 weeks for the 5S Sapphire. I'm not sure how folks are receiving theirs already if Garmin told me today that it hasn't been released yet...... I know that people who ordered the Fenix 5S (non Sapphire) already received them and they are even in stores already, so maybe that is what people have actually received.
Question: Does it display your current UTM coordinates
Answer: What are utm coordinates
Question: How accurate is the wrist-based heart rate monitor for the fenix line of watches compared to using a chest strap
Answer: I have the Fenix 5S. The Wrist HR seems good when I am not active; like at my desk at work, sitting around the house, etc. But when I hit the gym and I am gasping for air, my wrist HR at times will record #'s in the 50's/60's. Impossible when I am working near my threshold. I don't have this issue when I put my chest strap on. This seems to be a consistent trend regardless of which Garmin wrist wearable I wear; I have several.

User questions & answers

Question: Please confirm if it is 51mm
Answer: Yes
Question: Are these the apac version
Answer: Mine it says : 006-B2691-00 in the Garmindevice.xml file. I assume that it is the Row device.
Question: Pantalla táctil y puedo incorporar música
Answer: Si es tactil y si puedes incorporar música.
Question: So if i only use GPS tracking for 1 hour of the day would i still need to charge the watch or would the battery recharge using the solar power
Answer: If you have 21 days (504 hours) of battery life in smartwatch mode and used one hour of GPS mode... 1/15 of 504 hours is 33.6 hours (relative amount of smartwatch time used). So you still have 19.6 days of smartwatch usage. This is of course give or take some bases on how often you do things, settings, etc. I have a Vivoactive 3. When I was first starting out, 3-4 runs with GPS on and I still got 4 1/2 days of usage. My runs were not terribly long though at that point - 30 minutes or so. Now I might have GPS on for 2 hours in a session and obviously that impacts the battery a ton more.

Product features

Upsize Your Goals, Not Your GPS Watch
Your Roadmap to Success

Whether you’re in the city or on the trail, all fēnix 5 Plus Series watches provide built-in mapping and navigation features to help keep you oriented and on course. Full-color TOPO mapping comes preloaded with map data optimized for at-a-glance navigation and location tracking. For runners and cyclists, the device also features Trendline popularity routing, which uses billions of miles of Garmin Connect data to help you find and follow the best trails and routes.

Multinetwork Navigation

Every fēnix 5 Plus Series watch features multinetwork (GPS, GLONASS and Galileo) satellite reception to track in more challenging environments than GPS alone. In addition to map-based guidance, each watch also provides a set of ABC (altimeter, barometer and compass) sensors for outdoor navigation. The built-in altimeter provides elevation data to accurately monitor ascent and descent for activities such as hiking, while the tilt-compensated three-axis electronic compass keeps your bearing — whether you’re moving or not.

Advanced Performance Metrics

When you’re pushing your limits, you need a decisive edge. fēnix delivers with sophisticated training features to monitor your form and performance. Tap into physiological metrics, running dynamics and more to track your workout stats, measure your progress and fine-tune your form. Training status automatically evaluates your recent exercise history and performance indicators to let you know if you’re overtraining, maintaining or peaking. You can also view your overall training load, which measures your exercise volume from the last 7 days and compares it to the optimal range for your fitness and recent training history. Special preloaded activity profiles are provided for swimming, running, biking, hiking, skiing, rowing, paddle boarding and more. For added motivation, download advanced workouts and training plans from Garmin Connect.

Wrist-based Heart Rate

On your wrist, Elevate wrist heart rate technology lets you monitor your estimated heart rate without wearing a chest strap. In addition to counting steps and monitoring sleep, the watch uses heart rate to provide calories burned information and quantify the intensity of your fitness activities. It also measures your heart rate variability to calculate a stress score that helps you assess what level of activity your body is ready for.

A Little Traveling Music

Got a power song that gets you pumped up for a race or tough workout? Now you can have up to 500 songs stored right on your watch, for phone-free listening on the go. It’s easy to transfer music from your computer and then queue up your favorite playlist for easy listening through compatible Bluetooth headphones (sold separately). You can even sync your carefully crafted playlists from select music streaming services (May require premium subscription by a third-party music provider) to your watch for more ad-free listening. So leave your phone behind when you head out for a run or ride, because the music that keeps you moving is right there on your wrist.

Pay with a Wave of Your Hand

To help keep pace with your active lifestyle, fēnix 5 Plus devices feature our Garmin Pay contactless payment solution. Use it to pay for purchases so you can breeze through checkout lines while leaving your cash and cards at home. Try it anywhere there’s a scanner for contactless payments.

Stay Smartly Connected

All fēnix 5 Plus Series models support smart notifications when paired with a compatible device. Receive emails, texts and alerts right on your watch — whether you're on the trail, on the golf course or simply away from your desk. Other connected features include automatic uploads to our Garmin Connect online fitness community, live tracking, GroupTrack and social media sharing through our free Garmin Connect and Garmin Connect Mobile applications.

Premium Materials, Robust Performance

Built for rugged adventures and crafted of the finest premium-grade materials, fēnix 5 Plus Series watches are available in a variety of finish choices, including PVD-coated stainless steel bezel and DLC titanium bezel version. A bright, high-resolution, full-color Garmin Chroma Display with LED backlighting assures readability in all ambient conditions. And transflective technology that reflects and transmits light at the same time enables the watch face to become even more readable under intense sunlight. For added scratch resistance, a high-strength domed sapphire lens is available on several fēnix 5 Plus Series models.

Custom Apps, Watch Faces and Bands

You can customize any fēnix watch with free downloads from our Connect IQ store. Change your watch face, add data fields or get apps and widgets for information at a glance. There’s also a wide selection of QuickFit bands in your choice of premium leather, metal or silicone — so it’s easy to mix and match styles to go with any sport or activity. No tools are required to make the transformation. Just swap, click and go. With Garmin, you can add personality to your watch that’s uniquely you.

Running Power

Add power data to your training by downloading our Running Power app from the Connect IQ store onto your compatible watch. Developed by Garmin Labs, the Running Power app taps into metrics — such as pace, vertical oscillation, grade and even local wind conditions — to determine the amount of power you’re applying at the ground as you run. When you know how much power you’re expending from minute to minute and mile to mile, you’re better able to pace yourself, which can help keep you from tiring out too quickly. The best news? If you already own the right Garmin devices, adding power to your run is free. All you need is a fēnix 5 and one of these accessories: HRM-Run, HRM-Tri or the Running Dynamics Pod. Learn more.

User questions & answers

Question: is this touch screen
Answer: Touch screen is garbage for exercise. Sweat + touch screen = no good.
Question: How do you tell it is Asian version
Answer: Primarily by its part number: APAC: Garmin part 010-01746-16 ROW: Garmin part 010-01746-00 APAC is the Asian version, and ROW is "Rest Of World". Functionally, there isnt much of a difference that you would know about. The APAC (Asian version) lags behind a month to several months for software version updates, but it does catch up eventually. The primary difference according to forums on the subject is language availability. That being said, I have not yet read where anyone having an Asian model could not do everything functionally that everyone else could do, including uploading data to Garmin Connect and usage of the site. This link will show you the picture differences in the packaging -note the part number difference: https://imgur.com/gallery/shzkPSh
Question: If it has the wrist heart rate monitor why do we need to buy the heart rate straps
Answer: The wrist monitor doesn't work in the water, which is why you'd want the SWIM band. Also, it isn't quite as accurate as a strap, which is what the regular TRI band is for. It also gives you running metrics that just the watch doesn't give you - that said, if you don't want a strap and want the metrics, there is a RD pod product from Garmin you can just clip onto your shorts. Personally, just the watch and the built in monitor are fine for me, as I use this watch primarily for running and biking.
Question: Is this the apac (asia pacific) version or the row (rest of world) version
Answer: I received mine on 25 March and it's the ROW version. I went with the default "fulfilled by Amazon" via one-day prime delivery. Not sure who the original seller was.

Forerunner 935
Monitor Your Performance, Training and Recovery

Just how effective is your current training plan? Forerunner 935 will help you monitor your training and recovery so you can better prepare for a race or training cycle. Training status is a new performance monitoring tool that automatically evaluates your recent exercise history and performance indicators to let you know if you’re training productively, peaking or overreaching. The new anaerobic training effect metric opens a window of insight to a critical dimension of training.

Analyze Your Technique

We’re making it easier to get the data you need to improve your form. Let Forerunner 935 measure crucial running metrics that you can use to analyze your performance. Biomechanical measurements such as cadence, stride length, ground contact time and balance, vertical oscillation and vertical ratio are the key to understanding your form so you can bring your best on race day. These metrics are available with the addition of a compatible heart rate strap or the compact Running Dynamics Pod, which clips right onto your waistband.

Run, Sprint, Swim, Bike, Tri

Your routine is anything but routine. Forerunner 935 lets you change things up with ease thanks to built-in activity profiles for running (indoor/outdoor), cycling (indoor/outdoor), swimming (pool/open water), cross-country skiing, paddle sports, trail running, hiking, strength training and many more. For brick workouts and du/triathlon races, the auto multisport feature lets you switch sports with just one button press. The 935 is compatible with advanced workouts for running, cycling — and even pool swimming.

Smarter Connections

Smart notifications delivered right to your wrist are just the beginning. When paired with your compatible smartphone, Forerunner 935 also gives you access to automatic uploads to Garmin Connect, audio prompts, music controls and more. Let your loved ones follow your runs and rides in real time with LiveTrack — or use GroupTrack, which lets you keep tabs on your riding buddies as you go. For getting your data to and from the cloud, if you like the quick connection Wi-Fi provides, 935 can do that, too.

Follow Your Heart

Wrist-based heart rate might be an easy choice when you want to move without restrictions on race day, but Forerunner 935 gives you the option to tap into much more data with the addition of a compatible heart rate strap. A chest strap heart rate monitor (like HRM-Run or HRM-Tri) unlocks advanced features such as lactate threshold and the HRV (heart rate variability) stress test.

Make Every Day a Competition

Get the extra push you need to beat yesterday with Strava Live Segments. Strava Premium members can sync running and cycling segments to their 935 for live feedback during their activities. Also get alerts for segment starts and finishes, view leaderboard rankings, and see how your current effort compares to your PR.

Question: does the black bezel on the sapphire version scratch easily? And the other version
