User questions & answers
Question: | Does the software update actually fix the overheating problems? Overheating sounds like a hardware problem (not a software problem |
Answer: | No. Camera Overheats and shuts off. Operating temperature range: From -20° to 55°C (from -4° to 131°F). It is a joke. Had to buy another dash cam (AuKey DR01 - $57). No problems with the heat. Operating temperature - up to 176 F. |
Question: | how long can i record a video |
Answer: | The length of recording time will vary based on the record resolution, 720p or 1080p and the SD Card capacity. This Garmin FAQ includes a table listing record times: https://support.garmin.com/faqSearch/en-US/faq/content/85FGsedVux25MrQ3gteSL6 |
Question: | Can someone please give an update on their experience with this product after the update recently released |
Answer: | I purchased my DC55 on 05-Jan this year and hardwire installed it with the parking cable on 07-Jan. Mine was delivered with version 2.70 and I initially had no shutdowns, but starting in May the DC shuts down after a just a few minutes every time I use it. My commute is 26 minutes each way and the DC55 is down for up to 18 minutes! I downloaded and installed Garmin's latest SW update last week but it had no effect (don't even know if the latest software was intended to address temp shutdown). Anyway, my Blackvue DR750S-2CH was delivered today and I'm installing it in a few minutes. |
Question: | So what is more beneficial, the 1440p of the 55w or the wide lens of the 65w |
Answer: | First let me point out that as of now there is only one good review of the Garmin 55 dash cam on Amazon. The others, including mine, found it is not reliable as it continues to turn itself off because of heat buildup. If the 65 is of the same engineering, which I'm sure it is, it will not work any better. See the photos on my review including the one that shows the message to keep it away from heat. Like the others, its going back. Now as to 1440 or wide angle lens, I guess its would be personal preference. The wide 170 degree produce a distorted fish eye type pictures which I don't like. I prefer a 120 or less. That show plenty. The 1440p is a little sharper than 1080 but not enough to make me want to go with the distortion of the super wide lenses. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come with waterproof case |
Answer: | I am not sure what to think about this product as I have the same concerns as you express. We have only put one on a dog to see how they fit and have not yet used them in the field. There are a few videos on you tube but they have dog running wildly through a field, I am certain that a dog at full speed running through high grass cover is not going to allow for a lot stability for the camera on it's back. This can be solved by slowing the video at that point with the video software. Although it appears to me in these videos thatyou do see plenty of the dog's head but some other scenery as well. I think that the position of harness and the also the position of the VIRB can be adjusted to improve this problem. However I can't give it a complete thumps up until I get a chance to use it a little more.Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do you know when it is on if it is on your helmet? Does it vibrate |
Answer: | The camera does not vibrate. There are 2 and a half ways to know if it's "on" and I"ll explain what I mean by "half" - 1. The camera has two LED's, one on the front and one on top, around the record switch. The LED's are GREEN when the camera is "on" and they flash RED when the camera is "Recording." However the LED's can be turned off in the settings. 2. The LCD display on the top stays "on" when the camera is "on" or "recording" - however the LCD is not backlit, so you have to "Look" at it to "see" if the camera is "on" and/or "recording" 1/2. Here is the "half" - On top the camera there is a record "switch" like slides to a "record" position - this will turn the camera on and start recording if the camera is "off" - If the camera is already on when the switch is flipped, it will start recording. If the camera was off when you flipped the switch, the camera will turn back off when you stop recording by flipping the switch back to stop recording. The reason why this is a "half" way to tell if the camera is on or recording is because if the battery in the camera is dead, or the memory card is full, there is no way to tell just by the switch alone, you have to look at the LCD screen and/or LED's to confirm. And Lastly, the camera does have a very mild "beep" when it turns on and off and starts and stops recording, but you wouldn't be able to hear this on the open road. |
Question: | Does the Auto Racing bundle come with the a car charger? And can you keep the camera plugged in the charger while shooting |
Answer: | It does not come with a 12volt charger but can be used with any generic charger for the car. Yes you can keep the cable plugged in and powered while recording. |
Question: | With what this comes with, can I mount it to the male end of a tripod screw |
Answer: | No |
Question: | Does this vibrate when it turns on and off? I want to know in a rapid if it's working |
Answer: | No, the camera does not vibrate. |

- GARMIN DOG HARNESS SHORT FOR VIRB CAMERA
User questions & answers
Question: | Has anybody actually used this on a running dog? I can't seem to find any videos of it that aren't overproduced and jump around too much |
Answer: | Yes, the Virb Edit software that is downloadable on Garmin website for editing Virb videos includes an overlay with Lat/Lon data. Note that the GPS data on this camera is captured/refreshed every 1 second, so if you need very precise, high speed, Lat/Lon data, it is not very fast. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can i choose which shoulder to attach it to |
Answer: | Yes, I have used it on a running dog and you can expect it will jump around as they run. The cool shots you get is when the dog slows down or stops and you get the view from his perspective. For example on a dog huge points birds you see the action from ground level and in the case of a retriever you get the view of him handing the retrieving dummy off to you after he ran to go get it. |
Question: | do i need to get the craddle as well or does this provide everything |
Answer: | All Gopro mounts are compatible with the Garmin Virb, Garmin makes a tripod mount and same with GoPro. |
Question: | can you change the mount to the other shoulder |
Answer: | Yes. However, when you first plug in wait about 5 seconds . . .it thinks it is in charging mode and will shut off, unless you intervene. You have to go through the same thing if you turn off the vehicle. It defaults to off when it sees the juice coming in on the external port. I run mine off of an external batter pack with a USB port (designed for cel phones) because I need to go 12+ hours, it will do it with a 128MB SD card. The factory battery runs for about 3 to 4 hours fully charged. I use timed Video (at 0.5 sec.) and it works very well, had it out is sub-zero temps and +100 degrees. It tends not to stay turned on when in single picture mode. The Wide View setting distorts things that are close, try both settings to see what works for you. It is very durable, mine fell off the roof of a moving locomotive with no damage. I have two and running them from my smart phone with the app is unstable, they tend to turn off when there is a bad connection, but I am running them 50' apart in a noisy RF environment. I use the app to make sure they are aimed right, then disconnect and let them run. |
Question: | Is this compatible with other action cams, GoPro, Countour, Sony? Or know if adapters exist to use with other cams |
Answer: | Bel Air Camera has the correct answer which I see was copied from the Garmin website. The manufacturers website is always the best place to look for this kind of information, in fact Garmin has a nice picture of all the pieces you get, except the box. |

Question: | Is this new in the box |
Answer: | Not sure exactly which Garmin product you are viewing but my Garmin Montana 680t was new with all software and paperwork. |

Question: | Is this a good choice to use ocean kayaking in Maine |

Answer: | Comes in a Garmin Refurbished unit Box |
Question: | What SD Card is used |
Answer: | Normal |
Question: | what maps does this come with and how do you get additional maps |
Answer: | Do need additional detail map |
Question: | Is this accurate enough to measure property lines |
Answer: | I used mine for that purpose, but realizing it will be accurate to about 20 feet, so it will not be absolute. |

Question: | On the 750, can you sync bluetooth headphones (such as AirPods) for radio use, or is the bluetooth only for transferring data between the units |
Answer: | The headphones will not connect wirelessly and must be plugged in. The Bluetooth communication is designed for connection to your smartphone for features such as active weather and text notifications. The transfer of data between units is done using the ANT+communication protocol or by polling another users location with the radio features. |
Question: | would it be able to charge the battery thru the USB |
Answer: | Yes, the Rino 755 will recharge the battery with the supplied USB cable directly through the device. |
Question: | Will this unit bluetooth connect with an ipad, like the garmin expedition does, for use with gaia or other map apps |
Answer: | You can add Connect IQ features to your device from Garmin® and other providers using the Connect IQ Mobile app. You can customize your device with data fields, widgets, and apps but it will not be compatible with Gaia or other map apps. |
Question: | Would this work for costal boating in the Florida Keys |
Answer: | Can't see why not. Look online for Garmin-compatible charts, whether from Garmin or not. (My hiking map, with contours and more trails than the USGS maps, was a free download! Look around.) The eTrex models are waterproof, which is a plus. Think seriously about the display size, though. The whole unit fits in the palm of your hand, and its display is only a couple inches high. (See the specs. I might be off a little.) We hikers and hunters can stop and consult the unit, then start walking again. Your boat might travel quite a distance while you peer at that tiny screen, even with the engine stopped. Just a thought.Garmin obviously had boaters in mind when they programmed this, regardless of its size. It even has a "Man Overboard" function that instantly records its current location, then displays the distance and direction back to there while you turn the boat around. It shows tides, too, at whatever tide stations are close to you. Bottom line: it will do everything you need (I think) and do it all day and on into the next morning on a pair of AA cells, but your eyes will ask you why you didn't buy something with a bigger screen. |
Question: | does this gps come with preloaded topo maps for the United States |
Answer: | The maps that come preloaded are: Worldwide DEM Basemap (NR), Digital Globe demo (Jnx) and USGS Quads - Grand Canyon National Park (Jnx). Unfortunately, you will have to get the topo maps separately. |
Question: | Does this unit have an electronic compass? Or do you have to be movin to recieve an acccurate reading. Thanks |
Answer: | yes on the compass (electronic) but turn on the WAAS depending on if you set the compass for a true north or magnetic north WAAS gets rid of the errors jumping from satellite to satellite |
Question: | What is the significant difference between this Garmin and the Garmin Oregon 600t base model without the camera |
Answer: | The Oregon and all the Garmin "state" models all have a touch screen, don't they? The eTrex series doesn't. For controls it has the Power/battery check button and "back button on the right, and on the left, the zoom-in and -out buttons, plus the Menu button. On the front, at top-right, is the main control, a little thumbstick. Use it for scrolling and selecting menu items and for moving the map beyond your location. You'll want to spend some time reading the manual; this thing has a LOT of functionality. Most important shortcut: no matter how deep you go in the menus, double-tapping the Menu button takes you back to the main screen, with Map highlighted. |
