User questions & answers
Question: | does this unit keep a history of your rides or is that accomplished by syncing to strava or like app |
Answer: | Hi there, the PACE 2 only has one version. There is no premium version available. |
Question: | How effective is the trailforks integration for mtb users whose primary interest is navigating unknown trail systems? Heard mixed reviews |
Answer: | Yes, all COROS watches have VO2 Max estimate, along with other sport science metrics. |
Question: | Does this sync with a Garmin HR strap |
Answer: | In my experience, under normal use the nylon strap doesn't retain a lot of moisture. I usually sponge off any excess moisture and it dries off pretty quickly. I haven't gone swimming, but expect that might cause more retention. |
Question: | Does the "device only" package include any mounting hardware |
Answer: | Good vibration strength! |

The Garmin Cycle Map on Edge 830 comes with integrated TrailForks trail data. And with the preloaded Trailforks app from the Connect IQ Store, you can seamlessly sync your rides planned on Trailforks right to your Edge. Trailforks features trails from more than 80 countries, including topographic information, points of interest, heatmaps, trail conditions and much more. You can also view your upcoming training for the week and launch into the relevant workout seamlessly when required.

For even more awareness, pair Edge 830 with our Varia rearview radar and lights so you can see and be seen. And the new PIN-protected bike alarm will notify you on your smartphone if your bike is moved while you’re inside getting water or making a pit stop.

User questions & answers
Question: | not support Edge |
Answer: | According to the Garmin website the 1030 is supported: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/601468#devices |
Question: | if i do not have a compatible computer (yet) will it operate stand alone? and does the brightness and pulse rate change as cars approach |
Answer: | Yes, it will work as a standalone light, however, I'm not certain if the brightness and pulse rate change when cars approach when used without a head unit. You can set the light modes (steady on, pulse, blink, etc.) like any other taillight. As to compatible computers - Wahoo just added support for this light on 8/27/19. Obviously, most Garmin head units are compatible as well. |
Question: | Is this radar worth anything in NYC? (dense city |
Answer: | It also functions as a brake light when you're stopping, and flashes extra when someone is approaching, so there is still merit in increased visibility even in the dense "parking lot trying to imitate streets" that is NYC. And when away from the city, it functions awesome in normal city traffic and then out into more rural traffic. |
Question: | How does it behave when you a riding in groups and you have riders behind you |
Answer: | I'm a big guy and a few times on rides we have intentionally tried to trigger the radar by riding up fast and close to the bike with the radar. It is pretty rare that it thought we were a car and beeped. We have also tried riding close to block the signal and it always seem to see the cars. If you were in front of 20-30 rider group, it might not alert you. |

Garmin Varia RTL510 Radar Tail Light
Ride smarter and more aware with Varia RTL510 rearview radar. Mounted neatly on the seatpost, it provides visible and audible alerts for vehicles approaching from behind up to 153 yards (140 meters) away. Plus, the bright tail light is visible in daylight from up to a mile away, so you can ride with confidence and peace of mind.
Provides visual and audible alerts to warn of vehicles approaching from behind up to 153 yards (140 meters) away.
Tail light offers daylight visibility up to a mile away and is visible within a 220-degree range, so drivers can see you well before the radar sees the vehicle.
This Sensor Has Your Back
When out on a ride, you have to keep track of everything. What’s your route, how far are you going, how fast and how hard are you going to push it. But with Varia radar along for the ride, it’s like having eyes in the back of your helmet. It’s essentially an early warning system so you see cars approaching from behind, and they see you.
Safety in Numbers
Varia RTL510 rearview radar is just one part of cycling awareness. When paired with compatible Garmin devices, the system helps to create a safer riding environment by alerting riders to vehicles approaching from behind. Green light? All good. Amber light? A vehicle is approaching. Red light? Take caution — a vehicle is approaching at high speeds. Ride safe.

User questions & answers
Question: | does the "unit only" come with any bike mount |
Answer: | Yes, buying the “unit only” for the $199 does give you a basic mount system. Essentially what it is is a mount that is then held on with a couple of sturdy rubber bands that as of so far I’ve had no loss in faith for keeping the garmin securely on my stem. |
Question: | anyone used this for a century ride and did it have enough battery life |
Answer: | I just used it on a 5 hour ride over 137 kms with a few stops along the way. I had auto pause so it never switched off. I am using gps only (no Glonass etc) and a RideSense speed and cadence sensor and it had a Bluetooth connection going to my phone the whole time. At the end of the ride I estimate it had about one third battery left based on the icon. Hope that helps. |
Question: | Will this work with my existing Garmin heart rate strap |
Answer: | Yes, this product will work with your Garmin HRM. |
Question: | Can you pause a ride and charge it before finishing a ride and it counts as one ride. My edge 25 instantly ends any ride in progress if charging |
Answer: | I tried this out on mine, to see if I could tell. If you plug it into a cable that is not connected to a computer (just a USB charging port), then it will not interrupt your ride, as far as my attempts went. However, if you connect it to a computer where it triggers the USB/data connection, it does seem to interrupt the ride. So, any method that charges it without causing a data connection - this should be good. |
Question: | Can K band be turned off so it only detects Ka? Does it detect lidar |
Answer: | You can turn off the K band and it can detect LIDAR. |
Question: | how is this powered? Is there a wireless option |
Answer: | The single connector you see in the picture provides multiple functions, audio out, power, aux and laser jammer integration. Wireless for audio yes, you use the audio out to a audio to Bluetooth adaptor however you need a Bluetooth receiver at the other end whether it's a another adaptor or helmet Bluetooth system. |
Question: | Does this unit indicate the direction the radar/laser is coming from |
Answer: | It will indicate the presence of and which type |
Question: | Does it have rejection for lane departure and collision avoidance that some new cars have |
Answer: | No, and it is maddening to be riding near one of these vehicles as they share the same Ka band as most police radar. So on a crowded highway, it renders the unit almost useless as it goes off almost almost continuously. I contacted the manufacturer and was basically told “sorry/not sorry.” I ride with someone who has the 2.0 version which is NOT affected by this phenomenon. The 3.0 does have a gps function built in so that it can alert you to speed cameras, which is nice but they are few and far between. Great unit and well built, but this one glitch hugely detracts from my enjoyment of this not inexpensive riding accessory. |

Touchscreen Touring Bike Computer with Connected Features
Ready for the Road Ahead
There’s no time wasted with Edge Explore. This bike computer is simple to set up and ready to ride as soon as it comes out of the box. When you can see the directions you need at a glance, you don’t have to miss the amazing views. That’s why we designed Edge Explore with a 3” display that’s bright and easy to see — whether you’re riding in direct sunlight, on a cloudy day or even in the rain. The touchscreen is snappy and responsive, even when you’re wearing gloves.
Enhanced Cycling Awareness
Edge Explore is compatible with our Varia line of cycling awareness devices, including rearview radarand smart bike lights. By pairing the radar with your Edge, you can get alerts right on your Edge display to cars approaching from behind, helping you see and be seen by the traffic around you. Edge Explore has an assistance feature and built-in incident detection, which automatically sends through your paired smartphone your location to an emergency contact if you run into difficulty while you are road cycling.
Ride Connected
Keep your phone packed away, and just enjoy the ride because Edge Explore has all the smart connections you need. Use LiveTrack to let your friends and family follow your real-time location, or use GroupTrack to keep tabs on up to 50 of your riding buddies. If your fellow riders pull ahead or fall behind, rider-to-rider messaging (with a compatible smartphone) lets you send prewritten notes from your Edge bike computer to theirs. Let your friends know if you’ll catch up in a few minutes or if they should go on without you. If you have a flat tire or need assistance, you can send a message to your fellow riders who are paired with GroupTrack, so they can find you.
Ride Toward Adventure
With Edge Explore, you can get lost in the adventure without actually losing your way. It comes preloaded with the Garmin Cycle Map, which directs you to just about anything — from scenic countryside routes to eateries and bike shops. The routes are generated with Trendline popularity routing, pulling from billions of miles of cycling data. It makes it easy to ride like a local, along the routes and trails that actual cyclists prefer. Along the way, Edge Explore provides turn-by-turn directions, and, of course, it’s smart enough to guide you back to the route — or back to start — if you deviate from it or decide to head home early.
