All cameras should have a standard 1/4 inch threaded hole on the bottom for tripod mounts.As for the mount, I would not recommend it for the car. It is too springy/shaky. If you are attaching the mount on places not moving, then it will get the job done. BUT DON'T USE IT FOR THE CAR. No, because your Canon is a relatively high profile camera - compared to the small, hand-held, dedicated, low profile camcorders. In order to shoot video in the upright position, the mount must be bent into a partial "U" shape. Because your Canon is taller it would likely make contact with the windshield before you could level-out the camera. Google "gopro windshield mount". Thie GoPro is a camera of similar weight and dimensions as your Canon. Look at the pictures of the GoPro mounts. See how much more substantial those mounts are.
