User questions & answers
Question: | Okay, if I charge a second battery, do I have to keep it on the charger or can I leave it in the box unplugged after charging till needed |
Answer: | I read the Ring Team's January 2020 answer that the battery can sit in the box for a few months unplugged after charging it. I did exactly that, and when I took the battery out of the box, it had discharged. It took more than 24 hours to recharge it. This has happened with both of the batteries (the one that came with Ring 3 Plus, and the one that I bought as a reserve). I bought the second (reserve) battery to put into the Ring to minimize "downtime" on the Ring device on my door. The Ring Team reply seems erroneous. |
Question: | Does this battery fit the video camera |
Answer: | After talking with a Ring rep. The battery will fit for the ring 3, 3 plus ring stick. Will fit all models of the ring which are battery operated. |
Question: | Does this come with the charging cable |
Answer: | It does come with a usb cable to charge the battery. In addition, I purchased a second battery, so I always have a quick replacement. The additional battery also came with a charging cable. |
Question: | how long the battery last |
Answer: | I have been running mine for 24 days now on a single charge. Initially I had it set to allow "live view" and it was really dropping the charge fast. In 3 days it went from 100% to about 80%. Now, after turning that feature off, it has gone from 80% down to 27% in 21 days. I think one reason for the rapid drain may be that our outside cat has figured out that if she sits on the garbage can, we will eventually open the door and let her in. I want to wait before recharging to see how long it will go before it starts begging for attention. Regardless of how long it lasts before requiring a recharge, I am going to purchase a backup battery so I can switch them out instead of having to worry about down time. In my opinion, Ring should package it both as it is currently sold and optionally with a second battery for those who do not have/want wiring. Yes I understand that there would be a price difference in the packaging but that is to be expected. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you have 2 ring doorbells on a home? will they operate independently |
Answer: | Yes as long as you name them different should work fine |
Question: | can you hook the feed to a hard drive |
Answer: | I don't believe there is a continuous "feed." The device is activated by motion and/or pushing the button, then recordings are made. If it helps, the videos can be shared with several options. I share it to myself by email then I capture it with software I have for capturing videos on my desktop. Then I save my videos to an external hard drive for backup. |
Question: | The echo show5 has no built-in battery? Seems that I need to buy a ggmm es5 battery base to move my echo show around |
Answer: | Why are you asking about the Echo Show on a Ring Doorbell 3 product listing? Also, no Echo device has ever been battery powered, seems strange you wouldn't know that. Many third party manufacturers make external battery packs for them, but the reliability of them is questionable. |
Question: | What is Pre-Roll on the |
Answer: | Hello, The Pre-Roll feature is available on the Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus. This feature allows you to see an additional four seconds of video before the motion event was even triggered. This is a first-to-market feature for battery-powered doorbells and unique exclusively to Ring. Pre-Roll video is in black and white and in low resolution to conserve battery life. Answer: | 10 feet long total. 6 from the brick to another transformer, and 4 feet from that to the bare wires at the end |
Question: | How long does the battery last with one charge |
Answer: | It does not support 220v, but we will be launching a new version soon that will. Stay tuned. |
Question: | Why can I not setup motion zones for alerts? (can do this with the newest indoor model) Only get a pie shaped "range." Will this problem be fixed |
Answer: | Yes we do! We are about to launch a model that has a mechanical chime built into the power supply. |
Question: | If you use the camera indoors, is there a way to turn off the camera while you are home |
Answer: | Yes. We are currently selling the 230v version for Ring Pro and Nest Hello on amazon. However if you direct message us through the amazon system, we can get you a skybell 230v version. thanks |

User questions & answers
Question: | How does it fasten to the front of the house? It is expensive, so can someone easily rip it off |
Answer: | Hi Neighbor, Ring doorbells are screwed into a mounting bracket and anchored to the wall so it can’t be easily removed. If it does get stolen, the doorbell will capture a video of the incident, which you can use to file a police report and we will replace it for you free of charge. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to me directly at [email protected] today! ' Thank you, Mary Nell J., Neighbor Satisfaction Specialist [email protected] |
Question: | Can the quick release battery be taken out by someone who wants to rob the house |
Answer: | I have it, and it's fast for detection so I have no worries for the average person (90%) who is going to rob you they WILL be seen and recorded...but a "smart" robber will have a 25 dollar wifi jammer to disrupt your network and your neighbors to get past it..but then you pair it with the ring alarm and as long as the cell signal is not jammed an alert should go off. I had a relo link camera, budget and with an SD card but it ate batteries and sometimes not record every event. This is a great device if you want easy and convince...but the best devices are expensive and wired only with a battery backup. |
Question: | is It weather or waterproof |
Answer: | I found out that yes, it most definitely is weather and waterproof, but in not so smart of away. I had my ring video doorbell 2 in its place by the door when hurricane Irma came through last year, and forgot that the doorbell was there until about 4 hours into the worst of the northeastern bands with the steady high winds and hang reason blowing sideways... which were blowing to the east - right at the front of our house. So at the point where I realized the doorbell was still outside, our power and internet were out but the battery was still powering the doorbell and I was worried about the internal electronics, but I took it inside, too out the battery, and put it on the counter and forgot about it for a few days until things started to settle down, and then the power finally came back on. so at that point, it was the Moment of Truth when I went and put the doorbell back in its place and when it reestablished its connection with the internet, every aspect of the doorbell worked just fine. It's been a year now since Hurricane Irma passed through Florida, and all the functions of the doorbell are still working just fine: the battery longevity, the speakers, the microphone, the infrared lights, and the camera lens are all fine. One other important thing to mention: our front door faces west and is right near the corner of the wall to the garage, which faces south. So, it goes without saying that it can handle the worst of Florida's relentless sun and humidity through the summer like a champ!! |
Question: | I'm surprised that no-one has asked the question I'm about to ask.... Do you have to "Subscribe" to their service in order for it to continue working |
Answer: | I'm surprised no one has asked about the apparent need for a home WiFi subscription being required along with the $100/year subscription needed for the doorbell itself. And what if you have a front AND backdoor?? Do you pay for WiFi and EACH doorbell every month? And how secure is the mounting? What's to prevent people from just walking up and stealing the $200 doorbell itself, along with any packages they may find on the stoop? |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the unit be hung from the ceiling with corrected orientation |
Answer: | Can this unit be placed/hung facing outside the window? |
Question: | Is it possible to store captures locally to a NAS |
Answer: | You can store them to NAS not directly though. You need to purchase their plan either $3/month per camera or $10/month for unlimited cameras. If you have either plan you can download them from the cloud and store them on your NAS. I don’t know what Amazon Stockholder was talking about as it was stated that you can access, DOWNLOAD, and share past Ring videos. Also Amazon Stockholder would be completely incorrect with his reply. |
Question: | Does it require any sort of subscription |
Answer: | Can i just purchase Ring Indoor Cam and don't have subscription |
Question: | Can you download the app on a tablet or desktop? Must you only use a cellphone |
Answer: | Same discovery as Howard stated above. The current software in these cams, it doesn't not appear on my Windows 10 Ring app on my computer. It appears fine on my Android phone, but I pretty much do everything on my computer. I'm at work at home Cybersecurity engineer, so I like to see everything on my computer. I have 2 spotlight cams (over garage and one over the backyard) 2 of these indoor cams in my house (1st floor) and the Ring doorbell. I can see everything but the indoor cams that cover my 1st floor of the house. I have read via threads and forums though that the software is going to update this year sometime and they will eventually appear in the Windows 10 app on your computer systems, so that is a plus. The Ring devices check for updates themselves over your wifi network, so I'm assuming they will update themselves at one point and they will appear on my Windows 10 app one day soon. I'm hoping...it's one of the main reasons I got these. I want to be able to monitor and check on my three dogs on the first floor of the house, while I'm working in my office on the second floor. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there lifetime warranty if it gets stolen or broken |
Answer: | Yes it does. It has full Alexa functionality, and can be added to Alexa Guard. |
Question: | what is the range of motion sensor |
Answer: | If you're looking for something that can play music while you shower and get ready in the morning(or evening), I highly recommend getting a water-resistant or waterproof Bluetooth speaker and linking it to your Alexa device, but leave Alexa outside of the bathroom. I just purchased the echo flex\bluetooth-sengled LED lightbulb combo that was on sale on Christmas Eve for a crazy low price, and I am loving how amazing everything sounds through my little bit powerful, waterproof JBL GO Bluetooth speaker, INCLUDING phone calls!! The echo flex allows you to create a "mesh network" by having the one Alexa device and then placing the Sengled Lightbulbs which have Bluetooth in them and they use each other to pass the signal back and forth between each other. It's actually pretty cool. And not a lot of money to get your home started on the path the being "SMART." I'm just now getting into this SMART Home "thing" and I love it! |
Question: | Can more than one camera be hooked up to a single solar panel |
Answer: | ECHO FLEX AND HEAT TOLERANCE Echo Flex units starting service date: DEC 10 2019 Echo Flex units in service: 2 Physical Location: Interior of two individual and attached garages Geographical Location: Sonoran Desert, Phoenix, Arizona Phoenix, Arizona had a hotter-than-usual 2020 summer season as follows: 144 days of temperatures exceeding 100°F (37.7°C) 53 days of temperatures exceeding 110°F (43.3°C) 14 days of temperatures exceeding 115°F. (46.1°C) 29 days of my interior garage temperatures exceeding 120°F (48.8°C) Average temperature for July 2020: 98.9°F (37.1°C) Average temperature for August 2020: 99.1°F (37.2°C) Several times each "winter" season, the nighttime air temperatures in the Sonoran Desert drop to below 32°F (0°C). However, it is the three to four-month summer period of excessive Phoenix heat that creates the most heat-tolerance problems with electronic equipment and batteries. Although the Amazon-stated operating temperature range for the Echo Flex is 32°F to 95°F (0°C to 35°C), the tiny, tightly-encased Echo Flex devices survived a brutally hot summer of Phoenix with zero times of product failure, and Alexa voice response never lagged or faltered. I should also mention, before purchasing two Echo Flex devices for interior garage use, I used two Echo Dots with the same success factor over a period of three summers. Death Valley, California is the only place in the United States where sustaining summer temperatures are hotter than Phoenix. But, I speculate -- the Echo Flex -- would likely survive there as well. By the way, I used Echo devices in my garages for various purposes -- including VERBALLY DEACTIVATING the Ring security system. This is a very handy feature, especially when my arms are occupied with grocery bags and it is too inconvenient to press the deactivation code into the Ring keypad. |
Question: | how long do batteries last |
Answer: | Very unlikely, especially as most bathrooms are designed to place the outlet far from the shower. My 1st generation echo dot was basically inaudible at maximum volume from 5 feet away. The 3rd generation echo dot has much better speakers and is audible at 5 feet with the shower running at volume level 6, more than enough at volume 9. As this is less powerful than even a 1st generation echo dot I don't think it would work. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work with the basic ring camera with no spotlight |
Answer: | The original stick up camera uses an older micro USB port. It was not the best outdoor solution and allowed moisture into the camera. The current stick up cams use the plug in connector that his water resistant. This should fit the newer spotlight camera and stick up camera. The older style solar charger is available on the Ring page. |
Question: | How long is the cord |
Answer: | 13' as specified. I have purchased a couple of these. The cord is 13' and accounting for some slack needed both a the light placement and the solar panel, the panel and the spotlight can be placed 10-12' apart (The camera and light placed for the view and coverage needed but the solar panel positioned for the best exposure to the sun eg. south). Mine works very well. |
Question: | Confused. There are several answers.... How long is the cord from the camera to the solar panel... Answers vary from 1.5 ft to 12 feet |
Answer: | It’s right there in the description where it says POWER CONNECTION at the bottom I pasted it here for you. Features & details Designed exclusively for charging the Ring Spotlight Cam Battery and Stick Up Cam Battery With just a few hours of direct sunlight every day, your Ring Camera will stay charged around the clock Power connection is 13 feet. Item dimensions is 7.75 x 5.50 x 0.50 inch |
Question: | what is output voltage and amperage |
Answer: | Per Ring Spec Sheet: The Solar Power Rating is 6 Volts, 2 Watts. This calculates to 0.33 Amperes.... The power P in watts (W) is equal to the current I in amps (A), times the voltage V in volts (V).... or Watts = Amps times Volts... or Watts divided by Volts = Amps 2 Watts / 6 Volts = 0.33 Amps Note, output is dependent on your Sunlight Environment. |

Answer: | Hi there, The All-new Ring Chime was intended to be used on a standard 110 to 240VA. Please reach us directly should you have any additional questions as our team is happy to assist. Regards, Ring Team [email protected] |
Question: | Does it play a different sound for each ring doorbell? The old chime would not. Does the new one |
Answer: | AFAIK you need to buy two in order to get a chime for each doorbell then link them separately to each ring. Then you have to change the tone for both doorbells to get a unique sound for each door. |
Question: | Does this chime work only when the button is pushed on the doorbell device |
Answer: | You can also set it up to make a chime when it detects motion. I usually have this setting turned off so it only chimes when someone pushes the button. |
Question: | How long does this new chime work? i have 2 chimes & a chime pro. only one works. the others flash & will not connect or just doesn't work at all |
Answer: | Mine also quit working after 2-2.5 years! Do these things come with a warranty? I would also like to know how long this one lasts. It's ridiculous if I have to buy one of these every 2.5 years! C'mon Ring, improve your chime quality! |

Question: | My family has two appartments next to each other, both separate electrical installations. Would this work if we wanted to split the internet bill |
Answer: | Yes the EX8000 used as a wifi extender you have the option of having a guest network. You can use same SSID name as your main router or use a different SSID altogether. I did have issues with more than one extender on the same network using same SSID name as main router so I had to change one of the extenders to a different SSID. |
Question: | Has anyone connected a ps4 of xbox one to the wifi from the range extender? if so, signal and game play any good |
Answer: | If you mean an AT&T router signal, yes. If you mean cell tower signal, then no. |
Question: | Does it create a new sid or does it exteneded your current sid, so one does not have to switch to differing networks when in range |
Answer: | the input voltage is from 100 to 240 volts |
Question: | I don't understand how some people give this 4-5 stars and others can't get it to work and give it 1 star |
Answer: | there are 4 ports. I use multiple ones as this is the only system I can find that does not change the network name but once a year I also have one break and have to replace it or hard reset it myself. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can i watch on my tv |
Answer: | Depends on your TV or your setup. It will work with Alexa. You have to enable the Ring skill and link your Ring Account. Easiest to do on the web at alexa.amazon.com. Then you can use the Firestick or Fire TV. Then you can say 'Alexa, show my Floodlight Cam' or whatever you call it. Current Samsung TV's detect it too but you may have to go the the Samsung SmartThings hub to enable it. |
Question: | Every video/review I have read shows the camera pointed straight ahead. There doesn't appear to be much left/right adjustment. How much |
Answer: | Ours actually had a good amount. When it comes out the box, it is straight. But where we mounted it, we wanted it angled to the left. I would say that we had probably 30 degrees? Plus you are able to adjust the zone that it responds to. |
Question: | Can the flood light bulbs be changed out when they burn out |
Answer: | Simple answer is No or not easily. Ring will not fix or replace the bulb...Oh if you buy the extended warranty and they send you a whole new unit...What a waste!!! Or without the ExWar, you have to buy a new one to replace it so have to spend another $160 plus tax (they will give you a $100 discount to get a new one) for at max a $25-$30 bulb replacement! How is that for not being a part of the new Green Deal! This is a perfect example of customer NO-service in mind of the consumer SO BUYER BEWARE WHEN PURCHASING RING!!!! I guess I will try to jimmy-rig it like one of the consumers reported here to try but it outrageous and good bye to Ring, last one I purchase and I will tell any and all about this little (BIG) issue when purchasing an Ring product. |
Question: | Is there an option to save captured video to a private ftp server like what dlink allows? i won't buy if i have to subscribe to a service for that |
Answer: | The Ring Cloud storage Plan is available for $10/month and covers as many cameras that you have at your location it also includes professional security monitoring if you have the Ring Security System at no additional charge. User questions & answers
Question: | My door has no existing peephole. Can this be installed without a peephole |
Answer: | Hi, The Ring Door View Camera does require an existing door viewer or peephole to install this particular device. Ring does not recommend making permanent changes to your home's existing door in order to install this Door View Camera but we do have a full line of Video Doorbells with similar functionalities that can be set up easily in any home environment if you do not have an existing peephole drilled. Question: | I have a glass storm door. will this prevent the ring door view cam's motion detection from working |
Answer: | Hello, Doors that close in front of Door View Cam, like screens and storm doors, can have an impact on Door View Cam's functionality. Glass doors usually let you see the camera's view, but you will need to turn off the night vision LEDs in the device settings, or the glass door will reflect them back into the camera, obstructing its view. Metal and mesh screens may partially or fully obstruct the camera's view and may also reflect the night vision LEDs. If Motion Detection is enabled, most outer doors will also prevent motion from being detected by Door View Cam until the outer door is opened. Question: | whether ggmm d3 battery base help to make dot portable? Since the echo dot does not have built in battery |
Answer: | I have one for my Echo Show 5 - and it is definitely worth the money to make it portable. |
Question: | Can the battery be removed by an intruder |
Answer: | Hello, Great question! The outside portion of Door View Cam is attached to the inside portion (where the battery is housed) of it through the viewer in the door. There isn’t a way to remove it without disassembling it from the inside of your home or breaking the device. If a thief does manage to remove it, Ring has a Theft Protection policy in place. Simply send a copy of the police report to [email protected] and Ring will replace the device free of charge. If you have any additional questions, please visit us at ring.com/help or by emailing us at [email protected]. All the Best, Alexis from Ring |

Question: | Can the cable pass through the top of the window? I have a nest like that now as the power cable is flat |
Answer: | They shortened the range with an update in Sept 2019. We are lucky to get more than 10 feet out of it, and by the time the Ring is activated and alerts us the person is already at the door. We are fighting for them to change back for removing an advertised feature or full refund. |
Question: | will ggmm es5 battery base help if I want to use my show5 when unplugged |
Answer: | Currently, i have two ring cameras running off of an aftermarket outdoor solar panel i purchased on Amazon which had TWO USB ports out. Both cameras are always at 100% power. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will the chime pro extend the WiFi range to my ring alarm base? Currently it is just barely in range and disconnects throughout the day |
Answer: | Yes! |
Question: | How do i disable night light |
Answer: | But the light does NOT “automatically” come on. You either set it on or off. Fairly significant misrepresentation by Ring. |
Question: | Can i use more than one chime pro in my ring network |
Answer: | Hi there, Yes, you can use multiple Chime Pro devices to expand your Ring of security. The set up process will be the same for each device and will be completed through the Ring app. We can help ensure everything is working as intended if you need us. Please reach us at [email protected] at your convenience. Regards, Ring Team |
Question: | Will the extended wi-fi be available for other (non-ring) devices? or am i better off just getting a wi-fi extender |
Answer: | No it only works for other ring devices. I’m not pleased about that when the device name says Wi-Fi extender. Just found out the hard way I need to buy another device for Netflix to play in the bedroom. |
