User questions & answers

Question: I am thinking of replacing my Comcast issued Modem/Router with Zoom 5350. We will use it for internet TV (Roku)...Will this help in streaming? Comcast modem is very slow and unreliable
Answer: No it doesn't. However, I have a Ooma box (internet phone) that plugs into the back of the Cable Modem (standard Ethernet jack) and it works great. The back of the 5352 modem has a power jack, cable in, and 4 Ethernet out ports.
Question: time warner
Answer: You hook this up by the coaxial port.
Question: vpn
Answer: The sb6121 only has speeds of 172 Mbps download and up to 131 Mbps upload. This model has up to 343 Mbps download and 131 Mbps upload.
Question: I am having problems with this combo. Can I disconnect the Router part of this
Answer: It depends on your needs. Needs are based on the number of devices connected and the size of area you are trying to cover. I would highly recommend a mesh network unless your home is 1200sqft or smaller. A centrally located router could cover that. The biggest problem is getting the 5ghz frequency to reach throughout the home. The 5ghz gives you speeds over 30mbps on wireless devices. 5ghz will reach roughly 40ft in all directions from your access point (ap). A mesh system gives you multiple ap and thus more area covered by the 5ghz.

ZOOM TELEPHONICS

Based on 378 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Model 5363 combines a Comcast and Time Warner Cable certified 343 Mbps DOCSIS 3.0 8x4 Cable Modem with a very high-performance 1900 Mbps 802.11ac Wi-Fi Router with 4 GigE LAN ports. The 5363 is certified for money-saving own-your-cable-modem programs by Comcast and TWC. The 5363's wireless networking features are the best in the industry and include 3x3 internal antennas for both a "1300 Mbps" 802.11ac/a radio operating at 5 GHz and a "600 Mbps" 802.11n/g/b radio operating at 2.4 GHZ. Speed and range are supercharged by wireless beam forming for both 2.4 and 5 GHz radios. Beam forming focuses Model 5363's wireless energy on each wireless device. 11ac beam forming is used when connecting to 802.11ac clients. Even better, Broadcom Any Beam is used when connecting to ANY other 2.4 or 5.0GHz wireless client even if that smartphone, computer, tablet, smart TV or other Wi-Fi compatible device doesn't have beam forming technology. Wireless performance is also boosted by Broadcom TurboQAM technology to increase maximum wireless-N data rates at 2.4 GHz to 600 Mbps, 33% over competitors without this feature. Beam forming, dual wireless radios, and 3x3 antennas for both radios provide a significant advantage, especially in locations with interference from nearby wireless networks. Model 5363 is certified by Comcast, TWC, and Cable Labs to support DOCSIS 3.0 and IPv6, operating at 343 Mbps downstream, 123 Mbps upstream. DOCSIS 2.0 and 1.1 are also supported.

  • Model 5363 combines a 343 Mbps DOCSIS 3.0 8x4 cable modem and an AC1900 wireless router with 4 GigE ports.
  • CableLabs certified. Also certified for use with Comcast XFINITY, Time Warner Cable, Bright House, and more!
  • Parental Controls - Restrict access to inappropriate and undesirable sites.
  • Advanced firewall
  • 3 dual band antennas for superior speed, range and reliability
  • Combines a 343 Mbps DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem with a 3x3 dual-band wireless AC1900 router and four-port Gigabit Ethernet switch.Certified by Comcast and Time Warner Cable for money saving own-your-modem programs that typically save $8 to $10 a month.
  • This 8x4 cable modem has 8 downstream channels, 4 more than 4x4 cable modems. 8x4 gives higher average download speeds than 4x4, even for service speeds below this modem's top speed of 343 Mbps. Broadcom full-band capture further enhances modem speed

User questions & answers

Question: how is the wireless signal range? need coverage for 2 story house approx 2400sq ft
Answer: I don't know about Colorado, but it works well with Centurylink in Florida. The only problem is the WiFi signal is a little weak. Not bad but I had problems picking it up in the garage. Also I made a modification to mine which I believe helps it function but will void the warranty. I cut a hole in the top and mounted a small 12vdc fan to help cool the processor inside. It seems to help with drop outs. I have done this with all my WiFi modems.
Question: does it have an app where you can see who is connected to it
Answer: doesn't look like it. no screws present.
Question: I see repsonses saying this does not help you set up a Moca network, but the listing says it does - does it work or not
Answer: Roku will work with any Wireless Router. Since Zoom DSL wifi is a Wireless (DSL) Router, Roku will work with this device.
Question: Is this modem/router compatible with Mediacom in mid-Missouri
Answer: Let me be more precise: These are Phillips Crosshead Screws that are flat on the top and angled at the bottom of the head, as to perfectly fit and be flat with the metal hole in your laptop frame that would hold your HDD or SSD.

User questions & answers

Question: I want to buy this latest model mg7700 asap, when is gonna available
Answer: Not sure about the answer to your question. The MG7700 is very popular at the moment and all you can do is keep monitoring availability.
Question: What is the range of this modem? I'm looking for a strong signal throughout a 4,000 sq ft home
Answer: Model MG7700 should provide coverage to a large house. Unfortunately, because of so many variables involved, there isn't a way to measure the range (or speed) experience a user will have. Factors, including positioning of the Gateway, building materials, obstruction or even your neighbors WiFi usage, play a role in what will both range and speed. That said, model MG7700 is equipped with a sophisticated built in Dual Band AC 1900 WiFi router. Support for concurrent 2.4 and 5 GHz bands with AnyBeam beamforming at those bands, focuses the signal on wireless clients to allow further improvements to wireless performance, including range. Model MG7700's built in WiFi router will increase your chances for a better WiFi experience over other Gateways on the market.
Question: Do you have to pay for extended phone tech support in the event it stops working
Answer: Motorola has a pretty decent 2 year warranty, with good phone support even through this Novel Corona-virus causing many companies to lessen customer support. This is a solid modem that saves me $185 every year with Comcast. It's interesting as I had Comcast service 12 years ago and back then one could own their own modem to save you $15, but they would charge you the same $15 for the access card a month. I went back to Comcast as Frontier is at deaths door. These days Comcast doesn't charge for the access card as the FCC put the kibosh on cable companies being in the cable rental business. At the end of the day, this Motorola's paid for itself twice over and still counting.
Question: Are you able to install firmware updates? When I owned a combo modem+router, Cox locked out firmware updates because it was a cable modem
Answer: No, you can't personally update the firmware, apparently, the cable company gets it from Motorola, and updates it for you. I guess for compatibility or maybe some other reason.

* Not compatible with Verizon, AT&T, CenturyLink, and other fiber optic, satellite, or DSL services.

† This cable modem/router does not have telephone jacks for the support of voice calls.

Connect All Your Devices

The built-in router provides high-speed shared Internet access to smartphones, HDTVs, computers, tablets, game stations, streaming media devices, and other Ethernet and WiFi devices.

Better WiFi with AC1600 Dual Band

Dual band gives you two WiFi networks operating simultaneously in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Single band routers only use the 2.4 GHz band. This band is often full of interference as all your devices share that single band with your neighbors. The 5 GHz band in dual band products is typically much less crowded and has less interference. The bottom line? Dual band delivers much better WiFi.

Beamforming

AnyBeam WiFi beamforming at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz focuses the wireless signal on your wireless devices to further enhance wireless performance.

User questions & answers

Question: I need to use a computer that does not have wifi. Can I connect a desktop directly to the ethernet port
Answer: The maximum wifi throughtput to a 802.11AC wireless device is approximately 360Mbps for 2x2 MIMO cell phone and 720 for a 4x4 MIMO cell phone. Your Iphone XS is a 2x2 MIMO. under the most ideal conditions expect above 300 Mbps so long as the ISP service speed, modem and router/AP configuration are set up to deliver the higher speeds. The 801.11AX won't increase your hardwares maximum capable speed but it will manage the data flow better regardless if your client is wifi 6 capable or not.
Question: Will it work on my existing mobile shared data plan(hotspot enabled) or do i need new data plan? will it work in india too? can anyone point to any pl
Answer: If you have over 1200 sq ft and some distance I suggest installing wired access points to help signal. 2.4 ghz signals travel further than 5 ghz but are also prone to interference. I installed a tp link access point with an Ethernet cable run through my attic into my garage so my speed is equal everywhere. Access points are far less problematic than other options such as mesh or extenders
Question: Has anyone tried it on the verizon network? it says not all bands available with verizon so i'd like to know if it worked out ok or not
Answer: I just purchase NETGEAR Nighthawk AX12 12-Stream WiFi 6 Router (RAX120) - AX6000. My network is faster than when using my old AC router. The range is also much better and I have no WiFi 6 devices. So is it worth it? YES! Instead of getting around 145 mbs download speeds, I now see around 250 mbs. And I only pay for 200. Go figure.
Question: Why are you selling at double the price that Netgear is selling this
Answer: If in my search for a new router I end up deciding to shun Wi-Fi altogether, and ultimately live in a cave, my time spent will have been made worthwhile by this question. I will be laughing at this for days. You may think I need to get a life because of that, but that doesn’t make your question any less funny. :-) And to Phil Anderson who provided the answer, hats off to you too!

User questions & answers

Question: WILL MY OOMA PHONE WORK WITH THIS ZOOM MODEM
Answer: The 8x doesn't refer to the number of devices you can connect to it. You only want to connect one device and that's your WiFi router. You wireless router determines how many devices can be connect based on the available number of ip addresses on the wireless device. The 8x refers to the speed of Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS). Its informing you on the speed of DOCSIS 2.0 vs the newer DOCSIS 3.0. Ultimately your speed will be determined by how much you want to pay your internet provider. And you can determine how many devices you want to connect by the router you choose.
Question: WHAT IS THE RANGE
Answer: If you only need to have one computer hooked up to the internet you do not need a router. If you want to hook up more than one computer or if you want a wireless network, you will need to buy the appropriate router. My internet speed went from 20mb to 100mb(the speed I pay extra for). TWC has also stopped charging me $8.00 a month for the use of their inadequate equipment.
Question: I have digital phone also, does the 5352 have a phone jack to plug into
Answer: No you can't. You would be plugging a modem into a modem. The Zoom input is expecting a straight DSL/phone connection, not input from another modem. You need to just buy a standard router without the modem built in. They are cheaper anyway.
Question: Do you hook up to it by coaxial or Ethernet cable
Answer: I have used zoom modems for years and have excellent luck with the unit. You may want to double check your VPI and VCI settings. Here is a Zooms customer help site. zoom.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/846Good luck

User questions & answers

Question: Is this router quiet/almost silent
Answer: I don't hear it. The fans inside to cool it are quiet. Not like a Comcast DVR that you can hear from another room. You can even disable lights from flashing so it won't stand out.
Question: Is this router works with verizon fios
Answer: No
Question: Do i have to use "smart connect," or can i choose for myself which band i connect each device to
Answer: As long as the device you're trying to connect can see both bands, you can connect to either one.
Question: can a phone line be added to this unit
Answer: There isn't a phone jack, per se, but you can use any Ethernet service like Obi200 (provided they don't do any 'Mandatory upgrades' Shenanigans, again) and Google Voice. It works perfectly, just you gotta use ethernet and not phone line/Cable company provided Junk.
