5 best comcast voice modem
A Comcast voice modem, also known as a voice and data modem or a telephony modem, is a networking device provided by Comcast, a major cable internet and television service provider. This device serves multiple functions, including providing internet connectivity, enabling voice over IP (VoIP) phone service, and often functioning as a Wi-Fi router. Here are some key points about Comcast voice modems:
Internet Connectivity: A Comcast voice modem connects to Comcast's cable network to provide high-speed internet access to subscribers. It acts as a bridge between the cable infrastructure and the user's devices, allowing them to access the internet.
VoIP Phone Service: One of the primary features of a Comcast voice modem is its support for VoIP phone service. Comcast offers digital voice services that are delivered over the same cable connection used for internet access. This allows subscribers to make phone calls using VoIP technology.
Router Functionality: Many Comcast voice modems also include integrated Wi-Fi routers. This means that in addition to providing internet and phone service, they can create a local Wi-Fi network within the subscriber's home. This is convenient for connecting multiple devices wirelessly, such as smartphones, laptops, and smart home devices.
Compatibility: Comcast typically provides its subscribers with approved and compatible voice modems. It's important to use a modem that is officially supported by Comcast to ensure proper functionality and support for their services.
Setup and Installation: Comcast usually provides detailed instructions for setting up and activating their voice modems. This may involve connecting the modem to a cable outlet, a power source, and a phone handset, as well as configuring Wi-Fi settings if the modem includes routing capabilities.
Security: Comcast voice modems often come with built-in security features, such as firewall protection, to help safeguard the connected devices and network from online threats.
Monthly Fees: Comcast typically charges a monthly rental fee for their voice modems. Subscribers can choose to rent the modem from Comcast or purchase their own Comcast-approved voice modem to avoid rental fees.
Support and Maintenance: Comcast provides customer support for troubleshooting modem-related issues, and they may offer firmware updates to improve performance and security.
In summary, a Comcast voice modem is a multifunctional networking device that provides internet connectivity, VoIP phone service, and, in some cases, Wi-Fi routing capabilities to subscribers of Comcast's services. It's an essential component for customers who use Comcast for both internet and voice communication services.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this compatible with AT&T |
Answer: | Model MT7711 or any (DOCSIS Cable modem/router) is NOT compatible with AT&T. |
Question: | I just updated my account to the 1000mbps plan and I want to get the most of it. Would I be able to get the 1000mbps download with this device |
Answer: | My internet speed when Comcast provides xfi modem is >300 Mbps down (even wifi) which is what my plan is. However everytime I plug this modem and replace comcast modem - the internet wired connections throttles at a max of ~174 Mbps Wifi sucks at ~74 Mbps Upstairs ~43 Mbps Very disappointed with this product. I have spent numerous hours with comcast tech and they rewired my connections. NO LUCK !!! |
Question: | Mt7711 reverts to eroute_dualmode from bridge mode either upon reboot or triggered by xfinity. has anyone figured out how to keep it in bridge mode |
Answer: | Bridging the connection is entirely dependent on your internet service provider. Some providers have a configuration file which will overwrite the bridge mode any time you reboot your modem (When your modem or gateway reaches out to their DHCP server, it locks to your modem's MAC address). You can try calling your internet service provider and ask them to release your DHCP lease, which will make the network have to relearn what MAC is associated with your account. However, it may not be permanent and will just revert to previous settings again. If you have more questions, please call our support team at 1-800-753-0797 (Monday-Friday 8:30am-10pm, Saturday 8:30am-5pm Eastern Time) |
Question: | I have comcast triple play and plan to reduce service to comcast internet only with Ooma phone. Is this a good choice to accomplish this transition |
Answer: | I also have Comcast/Xfinity Triple Play. With all of the Premium channels it cost me $159.00 per month when I add the phone and went to Triple Play 3 years ago. Late last year my monthly bill had gone up to $292.00 per month and they were talking about raising the price another $18. I dropped all of the Premium channels, turned in one of the three HD adapters and bought this MT17711 so I didn't have to rent one monthly. My bill dropped down to $191.30. This modem is excellent. It has faster Internet speeds and my devices located outside no longer drop off. I still have the X1 DVR and can live without the Premium Channels. Installation was simple and all done right online without having to call Xfinity. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I need to use a computer that does not have wifi. Can I connect a desktop directly to the ethernet port |
Answer: | The maximum wifi throughtput to a 802.11AC wireless device is approximately 360Mbps for 2x2 MIMO cell phone and 720 for a 4x4 MIMO cell phone. Your Iphone XS is a 2x2 MIMO. under the most ideal conditions expect above 300 Mbps so long as the ISP service speed, modem and router/AP configuration are set up to deliver the higher speeds. The 801.11AX won't increase your hardwares maximum capable speed but it will manage the data flow better regardless if your client is wifi 6 capable or not. |
Question: | Will it work on my existing mobile shared data plan(hotspot enabled) or do i need new data plan? will it work in india too? can anyone point to any pl |
Answer: | If you have over 1200 sq ft and some distance I suggest installing wired access points to help signal. 2.4 ghz signals travel further than 5 ghz but are also prone to interference. I installed a tp link access point with an Ethernet cable run through my attic into my garage so my speed is equal everywhere. Access points are far less problematic than other options such as mesh or extenders |
Question: | Has anyone tried it on the verizon network? it says not all bands available with verizon so i'd like to know if it worked out ok or not |
Answer: | I just purchase NETGEAR Nighthawk AX12 12-Stream WiFi 6 Router (RAX120) - AX6000. My network is faster than when using my old AC router. The range is also much better and I have no WiFi 6 devices. So is it worth it? YES! Instead of getting around 145 mbs download speeds, I now see around 250 mbs. And I only pay for 200. Go figure. |
Question: | Why are you selling at double the price that Netgear is selling this |
Answer: | If in my search for a new router I end up deciding to shun Wi-Fi altogether, and ultimately live in a cave, my time spent will have been made worthwhile by this question. I will be laughing at this for days. You may think I need to get a life because of that, but that doesn’t make your question any less funny. :-) And to Phil Anderson who provided the answer, hats off to you too! |
