11 best arris docsis 3 0 cable modems
ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems are networking devices designed to provide high-speed internet access over cable TV lines. The term DOCSIS stands for Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification, which is an international telecommunications standard that enables the addition of high-bandwidth data transfer to an existing cable TV (CATV) system.
ARRIS is a reputable brand known for producing cable modems and modem router combos. DOCSIS 3.0 is an older but widely used version of the DOCSIS standard. Here are some key points about ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems:
High Speeds: DOCSIS 3.0 modems support higher data transfer rates compared to previous versions. This makes them suitable for high-speed internet plans offered by cable providers.
Compatibility: ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems are generally compatible with major cable internet service providers. However, it's always a good idea to check with your specific provider to ensure compatibility.
Channel Bonding: DOCSIS 3.0 introduces channel bonding, allowing multiple downstream and upstream channels to be used simultaneously. This enhances the overall speed and efficiency of data transmission.
Modem Router Combos: Some ARRIS models combine the functionality of a cable modem and a router in a single device. This eliminates the need for a separate router, providing a more streamlined solution for home networking.
Gigabit Ethernet Ports: Many DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems from ARRIS come equipped with Gigabit Ethernet ports. This allows for high-speed wired connections to devices like computers and gaming consoles.
IPv6 Support: These modems often support IPv6, the latest version of the Internet Protocol, ensuring compatibility with the evolving internet infrastructure.
When considering an ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem, it's important to check the specific model's features, compatibility with your internet service provider, and whether it meets your speed and connectivity requirements.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this both a modem and router ? (2 in1 thing |
Answer: | Yes it is! It has dual functionality. If you have a router you like already you can turn the wifi part off and just use it as a modem |
Question: | This says it isn't compatible with at&t, does that mean my iphone, with an at&t connection, will not be able to use this modem |
Answer: | It is not compatible with AT&T High Speed Internet service, only good with traditional Cable Service. Your iPhone will connect to the Wi-Fi without issue. |
Question: | i'm using this with netgear router (with port forwarding). therefore i have to run this modem in bridge mode. would i be better with a cheaper modem |
Answer: | I think you'd be better with a cheaper modem. The whole point of getting this modem is so you don't need to purchase a separate router/Wi-Fi access point. |
Question: | I was reading that you cannot run the lan jack and wifi at the same time on this device, is that true? Has anyone else experienced this problem |
Answer: | Yes, you can use LAN and wifi the same time. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between this modem, the SB6183, and the SB |
Answer: | The SB6180 enables channel bonding of up to 8 downstream channels and 4 upstream channels, which allows an operator to offer their customers advanced multimedia services with data rates of well over 300 Mbps in DOCSIS mode and 400 Mbps in EuroDOCSIS mode for downstream and 120 Mbps upstream. The SB6183 has 16 download & 4 upload channels. Download speeds up to 686 Mbps and upload speeds up to 131 Mbps based on your Cable provider service. That is the main difference I could find. I hope it helps. |
Question: | do most users need such a fast cable modem? I have comcast performance....is this over kill or futureproofing with docis 3.1 on horizaen |
Answer: | DOCSIS 3.1 is here, true. And the first set of cable modems using the standard will offer some improvements. As with many technologies, they don't saturate the market overnight. In most cases the availability and maturity of a technology in the marketplace can take years - as much as 3 to 5 years. Even if 15 to 20 percent of the market goes to DOCSIS 3.1 in the first or second year, that says 80 percent hasn't. Future proofing your technology is nice, but a measure of sensibility should be used too. I went to the ARRIS SB6183 knowing that my ISP service is 200 Mbps. It allows a considerable cushion for growth. If my ISP's average speeds jumped to 500 Mbps, and I were to consider another cable modem upgrade, I would focus on a faster cable modem that uses the DOCSIS 3.1 standard or any newer and more powerful standard - allowing me to benefit from the latest standards and speeds. The DOCSIS 3.0 standard may well be nearing its End-of-Life in 2 to 3 years. Therefore, I would see no value going to a 1.4 Gbps DOCSIS 3.0 modem. |
Question: | Does ARRIS/Motorola support firmware upgrades for the 6183 via downloads to the consumer's computer |
Answer: | The Cable Operators (MSOs) have complete control of what cable modem/gateway hardware they will allow installed and the firmware it uses, on their cable plant. This means anything directly connected to the cable plant (COAX) in your house. They do this to ensure that nothing happens to anyone upstream from your connections. Cable Operators follow the DOCSIS Specifications that control this methodology of firmware upgrades as well as providing security for the firmware upgrades. Cable Operators also run both the products and firmware through their own test cycles to approve any manufacturers' modems, wireless gateways, and the associated firmware updates for deployment. This is not an ARRIS only implementation, but the required implementation of any cable device manufacturer. After an MSO has tested and approved a new version of firmware for a cable device, they will then "push" that new firmware out to the devices. So upgrades to the modem firmware will be made automatically but you cannot download them to your computer and perform the upgrade yourself. |
Question: | I purchased this item almost 8 weeks ago 8 August 2014 will i receive this item in my lifetime or will i need to leave this item in my will for my kid |
Answer: | Purchased SB6183 a week ago, My invoice says estimated shipping between Oct 1 to 10th. What was your estimate date? If i don't see any update by Oct5th i'm going to cancel my order and stick with SB6141. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this modem support phone service from Xfinity |
Answer: | No. |
Question: | Is there any way i could use this in china? i've entered pppoe id and pw provided by isp on wan setting which is set as l2tp, but no luck |
Answer: | Wherever you are...; be it China or the USA; you must take your device to the local office of your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and have them approve it plus register it with their system. ISP protocols are generally universal worldwide but also universal is the premise that you may not access their system without their permission and they expect to get paid for providing the service |
Question: | Is this router compatable for voip phone services provided by the cable provider |
Answer: | No. |
Question: | how is the warranty isuue? how long |
Answer: | Warranty is for 3 months. I'd recommend to buy a new one not refurbished. My modem isn't working any more. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How is this model different than the arris surfboard sb |
Answer: | Yes it is a ADSL2+ Modem/Router combo. For Wireless networking it was useless. I even changed to a higher gain antenna combination. I used if for two weeks then got rid of it. I've tried 6 different Modem/Router Combo's over the last year. My service Provider, CenturyLink will not replace a broken Modem/Router. They make you lease one from them. Their equipment has normally been CRAP as far as performance and networking distance. I have been using a TP-LINK TD-W8970 for the past two month's 24/7 without any problems and it has a superior range to any of the others I've tried in the past. I have 6 computers on my home network with the farthest one being located in a small workshop in the back yard approx. 250ft from the TP-Link Modem/Router which is located in a separate room in the house. The three antenna's really make a difference. If you require a dual band modem/router TP-Link has one also, but I only needed a single band one. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Going with the cable modem option what’s the best router to pair this with for spectrum |
Answer: | The Zoom Modem/Router comes with a line-splitter which plugs into the phone line wall outlet. The router plugs into one side of the splitter and your phone plugs into the other side. This is standard for all DSL internet line internet services. |
Question: | How many devices can connect at once? Is that that the 8x refers to |
Answer: | Yes, you absolutely can. You can use any device that has a built in web browser and the GUI is fully functional. Here is a link for the ASUS RT-AC3200 setup video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8HjIJf7joY |
Question: | Do I also have to buy a router for the modem? And to make sure it obviously speeds up internet connection right |
Answer: | The number of devices depends on how they are connected and what they are doing. Wired devices only use the router's CPU as they pass traffic, wireless devices use the CPU and radio recourses. This router has a pretty powerful CPU, so I would expect it to handle wired devices well (having said that, it designed for home/small business use so there could be unknown limitations in the software). Radio is tricky to predict because there are so many unknown factors. I would not plan to have more than about 15 active wireless devices on this kind of router, but it can probably maintain a connection to a greater number of devices if they are mostly idle and well divided between the 3 bands. It also depends on what kind of data the devices use. If it is basic webpages without a lot of graphics and video, then you can have more devices than if they used a lot of bandwidth. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have time warner cable speed of 200 mb. with this router, will i be able to get 200 mbps on wifi |
Answer: | If by "phone" the writer refers to a cell phone, it could be connected via a USB adapter, but is it worth the expense and the effort? It's essentially a legacy box. It would require a USB to serial port converter to connect it to the phone plus a receptacle for the power, plus an app or software to use it. There are smaller and cheaper FAX Modem units that convert USB directly to an RJ11 POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) connector. Here's one from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/V-TOP-External-V-92-Modem-Cable/dp/B00XW5QYWS/ref=sr_1_3 It requires an adapter to convert the USB connector to the phone's Micro USB, such as this. https://www.amazon.com/CableCreation-Female-Assorted-Direction-Straight/dp/B013G4DMCE/ref=sr_1_2_sspa After that, an app or software would be needed to allow the phone to communicate with the POTS, and to send/receive faxes if that's the intent. IAC, the Zoom 3049 modem was designed for use with computers, and it is impractical for phones. |
Question: | Do I need another product to go with this to get wii connection to devices in my house wirelessly |
Answer: | Hi, this modem pre-dated Windows 10 PRO by many years. The package says that it supports up to Windows Vista so I can't say for sure. They might have released driver updates for subsequent releases. You can try calling zoom and asking. The number is below. Zoom Telephonics Inc. 99 High Street Boston, MA 02110 Telephone: (617) 423-1072 |
Question: | Is this compatible with Windows |
Answer: | No, it must be connected to a computer. The included DVD contains a driver and software that allows the computer to communicate with the modem. |
Question: | May I hear from those who actually have this modem & use it w/regular Comcast internet service? Will it work with up to 25mbps |
Answer: | I purchased the Zoom 3049 almost 10 years ago, but it came with a serial cable. One end of the cable has a male DB25 connector, and the other end is a female DB9. The DB25 connects to the back of the modem. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work with u-verse |
Answer: | yes approved with at@t. |
Question: | Keeps dropping out. Installed June 30,2016 and have not been able to resolve the issue of constant dropping out of internet connection. Any ideas |
Answer: | Probably a loss of signal issue. See the link that follows for guidelines related to Comcast, which are most likely comparable to other providers. I would recommend contacting your provider to be sure it isn't something they can help with. Check for all compression fittings to the modem, be sure it isn't being split. Might need an in line signal amplifier. http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Your-Home-Network/Connection-Troubleshooting-Tips/m-p/1253575#U1253575 |
Question: | Does this modem have a telephone port |
Answer: | Are their any with a telephone port |
Question: | Can I hook a rip current directly to this modem / router or would I need to buy a ripcurrent modem as well |
Answer: | The SURFboard SBG6900 has built-in Wi-Fi, but unfortunately, it is not enabled with RipCurrent (G.hn technology), If you are interested in a RipCurrent solution, I would recommend purchasing the SURFboard SB6901 cable modem, which is the same modem unit as the SBG6900 but without the Wi-Fi. Then, I would purchase one of the RipCurrent routers, such as the SBR AC1200 or SBR AC3200 and add either a wired or wireless extender, depending upon your needs |

Question: | Does it have a fan? It looks a bit wider than my sb6141, so I am wondering if they had to add a fan to keep it cool......thanks |
Answer: | Yes this works with optimum internet. Phone doesn't work with optimum but internet is really fast with this. |
Question: | trying to use with comcast 250mbps plan but getting only 90 mbps. comcast tech couldn't help asking to get their modem. any similar experience |
Answer: | Mine was also a router so it came in white only. The one that you are looking at is just a modem and telephone so if it is black on the box it should be black. I have no idea why it says white, unless they have options now. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this product come with a cable |
Answer: | It has the PUMA 7 chipset -> the 5,6 & 7 chipset are all vulnerable to the TCP issue -> but PUMA 6 is the most impacted by this issue. But you have to be targeted for it to be an issue and is only really a problem if you do "fast twitch" gaming activities while targeted. A series of very many small TCP packets can be sent in a way that overwhelms the cable modem's buffers causing latency and jitter to spike to 100-150 ms while being targeted. There is a test on DSL reports that will test this TCP vulnerability for the PUMA chipset. Intel (chipset owner -> they bought PUMA from Texas Instruments several years ago) they did come out with a patch for this issue after about a year of it being in the wild -> my understanding is that the patch has been out since mid 2018 and should be pushed down to your modem by your ISP. I bought this modem (T25) and after having it provisioned by COMCAST/XFINITY -> I ran the TCP PUMA test and my modem passed without issue & performed just as well as the rental modem. You can buy this modem without issue or fear of this PUMA chipset issue... Question: | is it compatible with Comcast |
Answer: | Cox has support for ARRIS / Surfboard TM3402 here is a list. https://www.cox.com/residential/support/cox-certified-cable-modems.html best bet is to call them and ask. besides switching to gigablast and getting VoiP is a much better deal. you can actually save some $$ and get crazy speeds.. |
Question: | Can I use a Cat6a Ethernet cord with it, and if so will it speed up my internet more |
Answer: | No, T25 is compatible to work only with Comcast Xfinity's cable internet subscription |
Question: | Does this also broadcast wirelessly |
Answer: | Probably not. Modems are specific for cable companies use. Ask model the ISP uses to be sure. |
