Answer:	I measured the opening at widest part and it is 2.25" at best. The 5" neck won't fit.

Answer:	It's a v shape, so at the rear it's about 1-1/4", and near 3" at the front, near the gate. I got it because it holds my tenor banjo, with a neck of only 1-1/4" wide inder a head that's only a bit over 2" wide.
