Answer:	Well actually Not necessarily. Yes it does need to be connected to something for it to be on. But It can work just like one of those smaller portable USB C hubs, using a single usb C cord from it into your computer and thats it. Im testing it right now like that and Im running an hdmi ext monitor with a few small usb devices plugged into it. Its just drawing power from my laptop battery. But limited to how much I can run off it. The best way is a power adapter to the hubs USB C (PD input). I use the charger that came with my MacBook Pro, which is powerful enough to run whatevers connected, while charging my laptop. Everything with just one cable into my computer. The other power source is through the DC power port on the hub, but it doesn't come with the dc plug included. I happen to have one that works, but since its only 12V, it'll run the hub and what's connected but that alone is not enough to charge my laptop too. If you have a computer that has a USB C port but doesnt use a usb charger, you can have the power running to your computer and the hub will draw power from your computer. It'll have more power to run heavier devices if it has its own power source though. If that all makes sense, I hope that helps. Its a great hub though, I recommend.

Answer:	I purchased this to do exactly the same. I had about 200 CDs to burn onto my MacBook Pro. This unit did great initially but was never able to finish this big job. It kept freezing and not ejecting my cds after using so much. It will work for small jobs, but if you have a lot of CDs to burn, it will stop working from being used too much.

Answer:	I don't believe so. There are 2 USB-C ports on the "front" that are for input/output - you could plug 2 of your SSD drives into those. There are 2 USB-C ports in the "back" - one is for connecting the hub to your computer. The other is labeled "PD" and appears to be power-only - ex. to charge or power a device. I plug my phone into is and it charges but does not try to connect as a device or drive. So, you will be able to connect only 2 drives via USB-C.
Question:	Can't get macbook air 2020 (m1) to charge with this hub. any suggestions? have tried my power cable and the one shipped w/it on all usbc ports
Answer:	To charge over the usb-c cable from your mac to the hub you'll need to plug another usb-c charger (such as your apple charger) into the doc's "usb-c(pd)" port. Poorly documented but that's an INPUT for power to be used to charge your laptop. Other than that quirk, and the occasional need to unplug the doc to reset it, it's been a good doc.
