Answer: I, too, am concerned about buying the correct power supply as a replacement for my CPC 1100 telescope (the wires are all twisted up and worn out from the way I've been wrapping the cord up to stow it away at the end of each observing session). However, the Celestron AC power adapter that came with my telescope has an output of 2.5 A, and I have never had any issues with lack of power while slewing. So I don't think there's anything to fear from the 2.5 A of this #18778 AC power adapter. The #18780 (5-amp) adapter is for the beefier (higher payload capacity) CGE Pro and CGEM mounts. That kind of amperage is not required for CPC and Advanced VX mounts. If you're exceeding the weight capacity of these systems by piggy-backing tons of camera gear and hefty optical tube assemblies onto the CPC and AVX mounts, then throwing more power at the drive motors is unsafe and it will not prevent damage to the gears. The safest rule of thumb is to beef up your mount, not your power supply!
