Answer: Any vehicle you are replacing an incandescent bulb with an LED bulb will have to have either an inline resistor or like my 2000 Honda CRV I replaced the stock flasher with a newer version that fit but had more resistance than the stock one. It still flashes a little fast but barely noticeable and has no errors. I have inline resistors on my 98 Chevy Castro van. A higher resisting flasher is definitely the way to go if you can figure out which on to use.

If your Golf's Can-Bus computer is looking for a specific amperage at the tail light location, you may experience flashing of the lights or a warning light/notification on your dash. This can be rectified with a canceller that tricks the computer into thinking that you have the original incandescent lamp in place, but may be more trouble than it is worth.
