Answer:	No. The top opening is a zipper. The buttoned flap has a small zippered pocket beneath it where I keep things I don't need to get at very often. I keep it unzipped and just reach underneath the flap to get at the small, not-much-used items I keep there.

Answer:	I love my Bogs! Nothing really works on ice except some form of Yaktrax with metal grippers . They slip on and off and shoe or boot. I work at a barn and when it is icy, sure, I can "shuffle" along on my Bogs, but in order to truly be able to "walk" you need buy some Trax!the sole is neither hard or soft. It is firm with great freedom of movement in the articulated ankle. Sure hope these comments help you.
