You will be able to see imperfections on the leather which indicates its full-grain also inconsistency in color which means it’s dyed by hand and not machines. Inside the bag, it’s written Vera Pelle (real leather) and genuine leather (real leather). We wrote genuine leather inside to emphasize the bag is made of real leather it does not stand for a specific type of leather (full grain) it’s just a general description. Once you receive the briefcase you will shortly understand it’s made of full-grain leather it gets patina over time. You can ask some experts and they will confirm the same. Question:	Is this bag waterproof
Answer:	It's cowhide. Even if it was waterproof you NEVER leave full grain leathers like this in rain. This would 100% rot in less than 48 hours if you didn't dry it out. Most if not all leather satchel bags are going to be like this, so it's just something to live with when you use full grain leather products of any sort.
Question:	Is it safe to use leather conditioner or waterproofing
Answer:	Mine showed up without any need for conditioner at all. You will have to spread it out from the box though -- it comes in a flat amazon box. One thing you need to remember about full grain leathers like this is that not everyone is going to have supple leather. If you live in a dry arid climate you better expect to receive stiff leather, in which case you may need to apply conditioner immediately. It's completely natural and just something to live with when using full grain leathers.
Question:	How well do the seems hold up
Answer:	Had it for a day and one seem on the top handle caused the Leather to rip. Now the handle only has one side attached, however that one side is holding up well. Bag weighed 18lbs when the handle snapped mid lift (not all the weight was on the handle yet). Dealer is already working with me to replace the bag.
Question:	What type of leather is this bag made of
Answer:	The flyer that came in the box states the bag is made of "goat hunter" leather. I don't know where they found this goat hunter or how they got his (or his family's) permission to make him into a bag, but it turned out real nice and I think of him every time I use the bag.

I am pretty sure if someone will try to slash it they will have hard time. Each pocket and zipper was made with functionality in mind. And of course you are paying for brand name but to be fair, there are no alternatives to this material from other brands.

Answer:	Truthfully no. It is made of leather and sturdy but would definitely be damaged on a dig. It's meant for a laptop and may not be roomy enough for geology tools. Amazon does carry a cloth contractors bucket bag that would be perfect for your intended use.

Answer:	It's just fine for petite women. I'm a 4'11" woman and I love carrying this. I use it for my 15" laptop, so if you don't normally carry a messenger-sized bag or don't need to carry a ton of stuff or a larger laptop, it might be too much for say, a purse replacement.

I would say it’s a good bag if you want to carry around air but if you put anything in it the metal clips which apparently are made from melted pennies snap in two places then the leather ripped off the bag as well. I feel like if the bag got wet it would act the same as a paper towel. Thumbs down.
