Answer:	Hi - for me so far, it latches and stays latched fine without it being locked-it's not a hair-trigger at all. The caveat would be that there is some possibility of accidentally brushing against the latch (it's a pry-type from its top) and causing it to open. I never lock mine, but it doesn't "move around" a lot either. Hope this was helpful.

Answer:	I use my bag exactly for that - unfortunately my laptop is 15" x 10.5" and I have no room for anything else except for what can fit in the outer pockets - wallet, phone, glass case and power supply.
