Answer:	Easy. Plug it in to power and an Ethernet connection. Download the WD my cloud app on your PC and log in to administer the device. That’s about it.

Answer:	Hi - I bought the 4TB my Cloud Home device. I am still trying all the features. It is possible to let your family members set-up their own user ID, password and dedicated folders which only your family member will have access to etc. I found it very annoying that as administrator of the home cloud, you WILL NOT have any control o what they are storing (or) access to any of those files. May be the WD designed the product that way that individuals have complete data security to their own areas. I am still learning. Good Luck

Answer:	From what I can see, this is pretty locked out but it does come with a few services preinstalled (Plex, IFTTT etc.)

Answer:	Yes. A long story short, my WD My Cloud Mirror suffered a "blown out" ethernet port due to a lightening strike. I purchased the EX2 Ultra (diskless) and placed my old WD Red drives, that were in the My Cloud Mirror, and it worked flawlessly. It didn't skip a beat. I was up and running like nothing happened. I was so relieved that the content on the drives were unaffected!
Question:	The device comes pre-installed with 4gb of ram. is that 1 stick of 4gb or 2 sticks of 2gb
Answer:	Well, this is an old question, so nobody will see my glorious contribution; but here goes anyway! In order to use RAID 1, the two drives in use for that must be of the same size. They should be identical --- well nearly so. But, if one of the drives is slower than the other, the slower drive controls the speed (obviously). Two 6 TB drives in RAID 1, however, does not give you exactly 6 TB. There is a small part of the discs that gets assigned overhead duty to keep track of the status of the mirroring and to manage the mirroring. You could assume a high percentage --- maybe even more than 99%. I can't find any real figures for it, but since a 6 TB drive doesn't hold 6 TB anyway, you might just assume something like 5.98 TB for two nominal 6 TB drives in RAID 1. Keep in mind that RAID isn't free!! Not only is the capacity of the RAID array less than the combined capacity of the drives, there is also a performance hit because everything has to be written more than once and depending on which RAID (n) you choose, it may be split across several drives. Another consideration which I had not previously considered is the age of the drives. If you start with two identical drives, four years from now each of those drives will have been in service for, guess what, four years. If one of them fails, the other may not be long behind. Some folks (what we usually refer to as "THEY") would suggest a mix of drive ages. Your mileage may vary, as "they" say. :-)

Answer:	I am going to buy the 4 bay version. If I can stream from Plex using 2 old Lenovo IX4-300D's than I am sure the ARMADA 388 1.6ghz chip will be fine for steaming from Plex. The Lenovo only has a 1.2ghz chip and ARMADA XP chip in it.

Answer:	Technically you can but not recommended. You will likely get terrible performance because the CPU and memory is not designed for this use case. 512MB RAM is very low for a datastore. This model is really geared towards traditional file sharing and media streaming. You want something with higher CPU and read/wrtie caching like the DS218/DS218+.

Answer:	No, the DS220j only supports 512MB
Question:	what physical size harddrives can be used
Answer:	Carlos is correct. 16tb is the limit of the ds218j or 8tb in raid configuration and the DS220j is 2ea 12 Tb for a total of 24Tb or 12Tb, in used in a raid situation.

They are so much cheaper then networked attached storage anyway, less electronics to fail...just better all the way around unless you are dealing with someone who can't cope with connecting and disconnecting stuff, it's far better. You can sway in and out many drives and store them...

Answer:	This is a network attached storage device. In order to use this with Windows 10 you'll need to map it as a network drive. Yes, the contents can be encrypted. No, it's not a USB device, it's a network device.

Answer:	To clarify, this can absolutely be used as storage for the media you host on a plex server but you will need to run the plex server on another device. Kind of Similar to DC Mike's setup; I have a an old AMD PC that hosts my plex server (Athlon x2 4400+, 8gb DDR2, and Radeon HD 6870 *can't remember if video card helps with plex decoding at all, but it's there anyway and has no other use to me) I do have a couple TB worth of media on HDDs in that box but the majority of my data is on similar NAS devices like this buffalo Linkstation. Literally any USB external or NAS drive can host media for a Plex server with extremely little chance of limited performance. The limiting factor in Plex performance comes with the capability of the computer hosting the server to decode and encode media to play on the device you're trying to stream to (for instance, accessing your plex server from another pc takes much fewer resources than on your ipad would require because the server pc has to reencode the media to a format that iOS can utilize) and, in the case of remote streaming, your internet connection. The 10+ year old pc I described can stream multiple 1080p video remotely with no visible lag and I've tried as much as 7 local network 1080p streams and had not issue there.tl;dr - This can host all of your music, video, pictures for a plex server to access but not run the plex server itself.

Answer:	I don't put it in the dryer. I wash it, hang it on my towel bar in the bathroom, and it dries very very quickly.

Answer:	The sticky is only on one side but I certainly would not recommend it as a shower towel.

Answer:	Hi Heather, it's a little bit slippery when dry so I usually spray a little bit of water first. It's not super sticky on one side; if you're looking for that I would go a different route. All in all, it's a decent towel but not super ideal for moving around a ton if you're not gonna sweat on it ;)

Of course the downside is that the RAID 10 only gives you 50% of the total installed capacity ( 4 x 2TB Hard Drives yields a 4TB RAID 10 Drive), while RAID 5 gives you 67% of the total installed capacity ( 4 x 2TB Hard Drives yields a 6TB RAID 5 Drive). Answer:	It's only the case (fan, operating system, power connections), there are no hard drives included with the NAS itself. You need to buy separate drives. I have two 4 gb drives.

Answer:	There are many factors that influence the speed over the Ethernet. Depending on the number and size of files, network card/switch interface speeds, Local disk speed, the jumbo frame setup,etc. With my ProSafe GST08T Gigabit managed switches (it is not expensive AND supports port teaming/bonding), with the right combination of the above I do reach 900Mb/sec i.e. 113MB/sec with no swet. It pretty much saturates the network connection. If you moved to 10Gb network, then you would saturate the server (unless, you put some SSD caching drives). As far as hardware is concerned, Synology is very nice. Also the OS is great. Only ONE thing missing for Windows users is a client backup provided by old WHS. It is simply THE BEST solution for windows shop. The reason I have been refusing to move out from Windows 7 up till now, is missing support for WHS in windows 10. Going to Windows Essentials 2012 is an option, but the license itself is $300 which is ridiculous.

Answer:	Yes, it has an HDMI port but it's for showing the codes for developers who may log in the background of the NAS to run commands. The HDMI port is not for displaying videos.
Question:	Do drives need to be the same size
Answer:	If the drives will be created as a RAID mode, it's suggested to use the drives in the same brand and size. The WD red hard drives and the Seagate IronWolf hard drives are recommended. If you use these drives as individual ones, you may use drives in different sizes.

Answer:	Yes, you should be able to use this as an external drive for the PS5 and get full speed on it as long as you plug it into one of the USB 3.2 ports. However, you will still not be able to play PS5 games off of it. You can play PS4 games off of it with improved load times. Per Daniel Bastian's answer regarding the Xbox Series X. You can use the T7 on Series X, but you will not get the full speed. Series X uses USB 3.1 gen 1 ports, which are slower than this SSD. For Series X, you would be better off buying the T5 SSD.

Question:	Has anyone run into the dlna database limit? my current device stops at 10k files which is only 1/3 of my files, so it is useless. for 118 and
Answer:	In the 8 bay area i have 8 3.5 hdd (5) 10tb (1) 8tb (1) 6tb (1) 4 tb, the avg temp stays around 34-35 c. I replaced (1) 5.25 drive bay with icy dock 4 x 2.5 ssd and the other 5.25 drive bay with startec 5.25 trayless hot swap rack. The system is for unraid server with several vm's run 24/7, file sharing , plex along with docker containers etc. The only time i have seen any temps above 40c was on the 8tb drive when doing parity check and then never near the manufacturing max of the drive. Note that I did replace the fans with Noctual fans, i did this based on some of the articles i had read about air flow not being the best in this case.
Question:	Can the memory be upgraded from 2gb to 8gb
Answer:	No EATX will not fit
Question:	Can this model stream extremely large 4k movies on the network without lag? i will be using plex. i have a gigabit network, cat6, etc
Answer:	The back side has 16 connectors but the bay side only has 8 slots for the drives to slide into not sure why they put the extra one on the back.
