Answer:	The 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB drives are all SMR, which means they are slow for random writes and not suitable as boot drives. (Google "Why SMR drives are sub-optimal for write-intensive workloads".)

This is correct considering that kilo means 1000 and mega means 1000000 (10^6). However, computers calculate on base 2 and to them, 1 MB is actually 1024 kilobytes, 1GB is 1024MB and 1 TB is 1024GB. This difference in the method of computation is responsible for this "missing space." Let's take an example of a 500 GB hard disk. From a manufacturer's point of view, the 500GB will have 500*1000*1000*1000 = 500000000000 bytes. From a computer's point of view, 500GB is actually 500*1024*1024*1024 = 536870912000 bytes. So, a hard drive that promises to have 500 GB storage space will actually display 465.66GB, 536870912000-500000000000 = 36870912000 bytes (34.34GB) less storage space when connected to a computer. Answer:	I have two NAS drives in my computer, and they work great. I bought two easystore external hard drives and removed the hard hard drives from the case. The hard drives are 5400 rpm drives. I only archive things on those drives, and they work great. The 7200 rpm drives are better for gaming but more expensive. The easystores only costed me $150. They also have a 256mb cache.

Answer:	No, they run true to sizes listed. These shirts are the absolute best a shirt can be. I love them, and have been wearing them for at least 12 years. Answer:	I think they are the same disk nearly, when I test the performance, they behave no difference.Moreover, both disks use the same firmware version.However, when i check the warranty period on Toshiba website, x300 stated as 3 years and ph3500u stated as 2 years, totally mixed up.

Question:	What's the difference between this one and the older model
Answer:	The X300 uses more advanced storage techniques and more efficient cache management techniques and protocols. It is faster, and more efficient. There is nothing wrong with the older model, I have both in use n my network, but the x300 is better suited for a busy digital media server especially if your server/workstation has multiple core processors. I like the X300 the only drawback (if you want to call it that) is tha te X300 is a little bit on the noisy side due t the read/write head technology used. It is not objectionable in my opinion. Both drives have been dependable.

Answer:	Buyer's beware! The Western Digital website blog is full of complaints on the current 1TB Black Drive . People with the software to test them have found that the new 1TB WD Black is a restickered WD Blue: a single platter with the performance and latency of the 1TB WD Blue. The 2TB, 3TB and 4TB WD Blacks have 3, 4 and 5 platters, not just one and look nothing like the 1TB Black which looks like a WD Blue clone. WD's blog manager is arguing that it "meets the specification" which has conveniently been neglected by WD and their vendors to list (but not on NewEgg which has the throughput of the1TB WD Black listed on a WD round up of the Black Series. Customers are saying they do NOT meet their expectation and that the extended warranty is not a comfort since what they wanted was a "high-performance" drive, not a reduced performance drive with better endurance.I would want to see a drive that looked like its family, not like another product line. Read the comments before you buy, then decide what you want to do.

Answer:	In a stock PS4? No. The PS4 can only hold a 2.5" hard drive internally. But, if you purchased the Nyko Data Bank for your PS4, you could essentially use any 3.5" hard drive that you wanted.Update: I just installed this hard drive in my PS4 (with an external set-up), and it functions FLAWLESSLY.
Question:	My toshiba 8gb came with two partitions on it already - 2 and 5.4gb. is that how your 8gb hdd was, or is that a sign that it was used and returned
Answer:	Bare drive is just that ... BARE.You need a place to put it and that is where cable connections come into play.I use an external case/power supply and all cables came with it. (NexStar CX)Internal use might require purchase of a cable. I must use external since mycomputer is a laptop. ONE eSATA connection gives me a classic two drive system. The Toshiba is a third drive. Both are in external cases.
Question:	does it come with migration software
Answer:	Generally, Toshiba HDD's tend to last longer than most other brands but from time to time some bad drives get out there. You would be hard pressed to find a more reliable brand out there, overall. I have a Toshiba 350 GB HDD (circa 2007) that I just recently relegated to a older secondary PC that saw everyday use for almost 10 years and it is still going strong.
Question:	drive buy limit on a nas drive, makes sense. raid5 or something with not 100% parity overhead would require at least 3 drives. why
Answer:	I was shocked to just discover this drive is not listed on the Toshiba US website. I own three of the drives and one from 2014 just failed. When I went to investigate the warranty terms by putting in the model number in the support website (http://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=DT01ACA300), the pop-up error message was this product is unknown in the Americas, New Zealand, and Australia. I will post a review with a screen print of the message.
