Answer:	This LaCie Drive works best with select MacBook models 2015-current. The operating system required to use this drive must be OS X v10.5 or later. We hope this helps answer any compatibility questions you may have.

Answer:	A USB 3.0 cable is included with the drive, and that can be connected to a USB 2.0 port on the computer, but that will of course greatly reduce performance if you choose to do so.

Answer:	A USB-C hard drive is compatible with Thunderbolt 3 ports on a Mac, so this will work. Also works of course with USB-C ports, and older USB 3.0 ports using supplied cable.

Answer:	USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 share the same physical connection type (USB-C). USB-C devices can be connected to Thunderbolt 3 ports, as TB3 supports USB-C devices. However, TB3 drives cannot be connected to USB-C ports on computer. So, this USB-C drive will connect to USB-C ports, Thunderbolt 3 ports, or using included cable, USB 3.0/2.0 ports.
Question:	Can I take the hard drive out and use it as a regular desktop hard drive
Answer:	I’ve done this with about 30+ 2tb, 4tb, and 8tb drives over the years- converting an external to an internal- and they are all still running fine to this day. Usually $30-40 cheaper than the internal and you get a free usb cable to boot. Just make sure you don’t hurt your hands while doing it. Twisting a flathead screw driver in the seams seemed like the way to go if I recall. They don’t make the cases easy to open. For someone below: Don’t use these for RAID. NAS rated drives are different because they handle higher heat, able to run 24/7 with cross checks, etc. read more about what makes the iron version a NAS approved drive compared to the standard barracuda.

Answer:	Just reformatted the external hard drive using Disk Utility. Works for Mac :) Im not a tech savvy person, so I found this website to be useful when selecting what option to select when erasing the hard drive. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4276140?start=0&tstart=0I chose to use Journaled as I am using this for a Time Machine back up, like Matthew Chellew suggests in the first answer.

Answer:	Like a charm, exactly what I purchased it for. Plug into any of the three ports (all 3 of the original XBox One ports are 3.0) and give it a minute. The XBox will recognize it and you have to choose for storage or media. Choose storage for games and you are up and running. Do be aware that this HDD does require its own power supply. I was transferring games within 5 minutes. FWIW within half an hour there was a power outage in the middle of a transfer and the external drive, the XBox One and the data are were ok when power came back on. If a data transfer is interrupted for any reason simply delete the failed portion on the destination drive and start the process over.

Answer:	This unit has USB and Thunderbolt. There are adapters available to use the older USB devices with USB C.

Answer:	You may need a specific Thunderbolt driver for Ubuntu to access this drive. I would go the Ubuntu website to see if this exists. Normally, I access Ubuntu from a virtual machine so I avoid this kind of problem.

Answer:	The drive itself is only 5,400 RPM. However, if your only option is Thunderbolt or USB 2.0 (2011 iMac for instance) then this drive will still offer higher performance over a 7,200 RPM external USB 2.0 hard drive. USB 2.0 is limited to about 60MB/s (480Mbit/s), and this drive achieves around 105MB/s - 109MB/s according to http://reviews.cnet.com/external-hard-drives/buffalo-ministation-thunderbolt-1tb/4505-3190_7-35338125.html. Having said that, I have two of these. I have one on a 2013 iMac (i7 & 16GB Ram) and another on a 2011 iMac (i7 & 16GB Ram). I use them as external drives for my Windows 8 virtual machines. They are very speedy, and I haven't had any performance issues as of yet. You're correct however, you will never see 10,000GBit/s as they imply.

Answer:	USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 are NOT the same. TB3 is significantly faster, and can daisy chain TB3 devices. USB-C is much cheaper, but also slower, and can not be daisy chained. They do use cables with the same connectors, but this looks like it's just USB-C. Price point is a giveaway. Don't think you can get a drive with TB3 this inexpensively.

Answer:	This drive is not slow at all - you have your megabits and megabytes confused. USB 2.0 has a max speed of 480mbps, which is 60MB/s, while USB 3.0 can push 640MB/s and this drive is 240MB/s, which is excellent for a single HDD (non-SSD, non-RAID) as most similar drives work in the 180-220MB/s range. Also please keep in mind that with any hard drive, the drive itself is usually the limiting factor in transfer speed. Meaning any single drive is typically not capable of reading/writing data at anywhere near the published max speed that the interface is "capable" of. You have to get into an SSD or multi-drive RAID setup to start really utilizing what today's faster interfaces like USB 3.0 and 3.1 are capable of.

Answer:	No, this drive connects to a single host. Unless you maybe have a network switch that supports USB drives, then maybe connect the drive to that and then access the drive via network that way. But there is no network port on drive, is meant to connect directly to a single Mac or PC.

Answer:	Sorry this will not work. The actual interface on the drive is USB-C and that will not work with a Thunderbolt adapter. Many hard drives such as this that have the USB-C interface will put "Thunderbolt 3" in the description, and what that means is that the drive will work with a Thunderbolt 3 port on computer since Thunderbolt 3 is compatible with USB-C. But not being an actual Thunderbolt 3 port on the drive, the Thunderbolt adapter will not work to connect to older Thunderbolt 1/2 ports on computers.

Answer:	Having the same problem and tried everything I could think of. Called Lacie and they said it was a problem with MAC OSX 10.15. Can't confirm with apple that the problem is on their side and not Lacie's. Nobody is taking ownership!

Question:	What is the actual measured speed of the usb 3.0? measured speed of the thunderbolt
Answer:	The drive inside is a 5400rpm HDD spinning-platter type. It is slow. The way it is connected to your computer, whether USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt-1, is not going to bottleneck the data transfer, the hard drive inside will. I have one of these, I use it with my Mac as a Time Machine backup drive, and it's perfect for that. Using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test and a bunch of different file sizes I get writes and reads that average about 110MB/s whether I use the Thunderbolt-1 captive cable to a Thunderbolt-1 port on my Mac or a USB 3.0 cable between the enclosure and a USB 3.0 port on my Mac. If you put a faster 7200rpm HDD in the case you'll get slightly better speeds. If you put an SSD in there you'll get speeds around 400MB/s over USB and a little more over Thunderbolt – about as fast as USB gets in actual use but even an SSD is unlikely to "fill the pipe" of the 10gbps Thunderbolt interface.

Answer:	Yes for your laptop. You could backup your iPad to an external drive, including this one, using iTunes and selecting this drive.

Answer:	The thunderbolt cable is attached. It can wrap around the side of the drive and be stowed away neatly. The USB cable plugs into a separate port and is not permanently attached.

Answer:	I have one at work that has both pc (USB) and mac hook ups. My one from home is only USB, but both still connect to my work pc new mac at home. I just wish they synced automatically like the Targus one I had years ago.

Answer:	The hard drive is hard metal. The orange plastic edge is a rubbery consistency. Not hard plastic, but not soft enough to be squishy either.

Question:	Is the drive encrypted to the enclosure? In other words, could I remove a drive and still read in a different enclosure
Answer:	If running in default RAID 0 mode, all data is spread/shared across BOTH drives, so putting ONE of the drives in another computer would not work at all - they must stay as a pair and even then since this unit uses a hardware RAID controller, doubtful the paired drives would work anywhere else. However, if you run the 2big in RAID 1 mode, which is MIRROR mode, that writes SAME data to both drives as full-time backup. In that case, EITHER of the single drives should be able to be moved to another PC and work fine as a regular single drive.
Question:	Is there a way to replicate this to an identical model
Answer:	Good day to you John, Is there a way to replicate this to an identical model? In what way are you asking the question? Do you mean (2) LaCie 2big Dock RAID 8TB External Hard Drives, which would be 16TB, but because you are mirroring 1 8TB the other is a copy??? OR ??? I don't understand the " identical model? " Hope maybe part of do you mean, might be what your thinking?

Answer:	I am using it with a MacBook Pro 2018 i9, it stays mounted.
Question:	Just got mine and set everything up just fine. it's super loud though. anyone's else's drive loud? i don't want to move data if that's abnormal
Answer:	They have about the tone of a small space heater, one of those $25 Ceramic jobs you get at the big box hardware stores. It's not a big deal and you'll get used to it, just be aware so you're not taken aback when you plug it in for the first time. I'm not sure if there is a better way for cooling because I am new to RAID enclosures, but for almost $900 I just found it a bit off putting.
