I'm not sure about its max memory; the highest offered from HP with this rig is 16GB. If you really need to go above that, two factors affect this: processor type and OS level. Since this is an x64 machine, the max memory under Win7 Pro should be 192GB. x86 machines have a max of 4GB no matter the OS; Home versions of Win7 have varying limits from 8 to 16. Careful if you're upgrading to 10 that the machine will still handle the max 192GB; I haven't tried that. |

| Answer: | Yes, you can, and if you pay attention to the videos, you will find it's really easy. I am a 78-year-old woman who knows computers fairly well but avoids doing the physical work on them. I did it myself, and even taking my time to be sure I was perfectly aligned and so on, I did it in less than an hour. When I bought my LG Gram 17, all I could get was one with a 256 SATA SSD, and only 16 GB memory, and that was almost the only real drawback to the most perfect laptop I've ever owned in 23 years of mostly using laptops. I checked out the upgrade on YouTube before making my purchase (elsewhere, so I'm not a verified purchaser) so I was pretty sure I could do it. I bought a 1 TB SSD and 32 GB more memory, and when I opened up the back, I saw an extra slot for expansion of the drive. They slipped into place with ease. Now I have the 1T plus the 256 SSD, but I just replaced the memory with the 32. The hardest part was getting off the tiny feet and the tiny screws beneath them. I'd only wish for one thing now, and that would be a touch screen, but I happily pass on that one, realizing a touch screen was, for me, largely just a matter of habit. Really, I'm not kidding. It's LG for me from now on. I really can't afford an expensive laptop, and this one is almost high end for my budget. But it's so tough, fast, light and perfect, I hope it will last forever. |
