Answer:	Yes, by turning off the headset. Then turning it back on an counting the numbers of blinks the LED on the headset makes before it stops. This tells you how much power is left. Read the manual provided to you in the box it comes in.

Answer:	Not the product designer here, just an owner. It does look like an angry owl. I'm just disappointed that somewhere between the previous version and this one they disabled the lighting effect. If I'm going to look like an angry owl, I would like to at least have illuminated eyes.

Answer:	Yes it will run on Windows 8.1 just fine. Just go to Asus's web page and download the latest set of software and drivers for Windows 8 64 bit and your set. At times I have been forced to re-install the application software and drivers for some strange reason. I have been a Computer Tech since back in 1995 and still can't figure out why this happens? It's probably just a bug within Win 8.1's startup sequence. It's not a problem that bothers me so much that I would switch sound cards. This is by far the best gaming and overall decent sounding sound card for the money available.I paid $40 including shipping and have had to return the first card as defective. It was the second card has had zero internal noise issues that the first card was having issues with. It even sounds great when used in analog with a cheap headphone amp like the Schiit's mangi that costs $109 on Amazon including shipping. You get a truly great sound with a Signal To Noise Ratio that exceeds 100 DB. If gaming is your thing a good pair of headphones along with a dedicated high output headphone amp really makes a huge difference. Schiit's also sells a USB DAC called modi for $109 here on Amazon that would eliminate the need for a sound card all together.For audio this is great. But if you still are looking for a good amount of gaming sound effects this Asus card plugged into a Schiits Mangi headphone amp will give you all you can possibly need. I'm not a huge fan of gaming thru speakers. I prefer using good headphones that allow you to hear everything! The Sennhiser 598's rated at 50 OHMs will give you the detailed sound for gaming and exceptional sound for home audio as well.They cost around $220 but are the best sub $400 headphones I have ever heard in my life and I tested about 6 different pairs before deciding on them including the much more expensive Sennhiser 600's. I choose the 598's due tot he lower impedance and since they sounded so close to the 600's that it did not justify the extra cost!This is the best sound card for the money as well. Sound Blaster cards are over rated and have horrible driver support. They are living off of there name at this point and I'll never buy a Sound Blaster card again! This Asus card uses the latest O2 chipset and performs very near the same as the $200 high end Asus and others at that price range. It lacks the shielding that some of the more expensive cards have. However, if your careful where you place the card (As high up near the GPU video card as possible) you will minimize any internal noise from the hard drives in your system. I use a Cool Master full tower that really helps eliminate internal noise as well!

Answer:	Yes, I have it run to a Yamaha 5.1 receiver and unlike the other user "ML", it does allow full surround from multi-channel sources. Unfortunately, EQ, channel levels, environment effects and more seem only available when using the "Speakers" output.

Answer:	sound quality is about equal, maybe slightly better but the asus strix soar has capacitor issues resulting in delayed booting as the capacitors charge and loud capacitor whine during boot and shutdown for up to a minute even after the rest of the system has powered down. this is most likely due to asus using a amp rated much higher than what is needed in a pci sound card, which is great for loud audio but i do worry that if the amp blows it will kill the entire pc does to the amps and voltage involved, fr this reason i stopped using this card and sadly have switched to the ae-5 plus recently, if your someone who would prefer to not give creative money the HT omega e-claro is another viable option but this card lacks EMI shielding resulting in line noise at higher volumes . if you still have a PCI slot ( not express) the best option is the HT omega claro II which in my humble opinion the best sound card on the market today but sadly they do not make this card for pci express so im stuck with the ae-5 for now :(

Answer:	This is a external sound card not an amplifier capable of driving passive speakers. It's output is preamp level (mw) which necessitates connection to powered speakers which have their own onboard amplifier.

Answer:	Not true 5.1 surround sound, but it can output the "virtual 7.1" effect. Also, the SPDIF port looks like a coaxial jack but it will accept an optical cable if it has the 3.5mm style optical jack.

Answer:	The internal DSP can do simulated 7.1 to the headphones, optical or analog output. It's pretty decent but I use real 7.1 through speakers and stereo through headphones. It's a great sound card with only 2 real weaknesses. 1. It does not have bass management (it won't use the subwoofer when you play stereo content) 2. It does not support a ghost/virtual center channel. If you don't have a center speaker, you will miss content in games; it won't send the dialog to the L/R speakers.
Question:	Does it have dolby home theater feature like old xonar u7 ? i heard that they removed that but wanted to be sure before buy it
Answer:	It does not have a Dolby Digital Live! encoder meaning it will not encode game sounds into compressed 5.1 format over optical. If you watch pre-encoded material (like a streaming service that streams in Dolby) then the encoded audio will be passed through the optical out and can be decoded by a compatible Audio Video Receiver.
Question:	Can it do virtual sound through 7.1 speakers and not talking about headphones? Whatever plays in stereo will stay in stereo and not simulated
Answer:	If you're playing 7.1 material through 7.1 speakers, it will be actual surround sound, not virtual surround sound. It will do virtual surround through either headphones or stereo speakers. However, if you play stereo music on your PC, it will only send the music to the left and right channel, it will not send the bass through the subwoofer channel (this feature is called bass management and the Xonar U7 MkII does not have this feature - see my review)

Answer:	You would have to dim the lights, specially if on battery power (50% brightness) it works fine in the daytime but it is not its strongest point, don't get me wrong it is bright and crisp, but full daylight requires a very bright projector, and even then.... It is fabulously small and portable, and the fact it is battery powered is a treat. I carry if in my backpack for work and it never ceases to impress, my clients love it. My only real issue is that it in tot wi-fi enabled, but it was the compromise i made when i bought it.

Answer:	You'll need to download the Armoury II software to control the DAC 7.1 surround sound settings, it's actually a good program and allows you to adjust almost any setting for preferred sound quality. I currently use a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 2, and they connect via the 3.5 mm headset/mic input. If yours are wired they can most likely just plug into the DAC input port.
