Light Tracing

The light-tracing function of the car is mainly use two photoresistors located at two side of the front end to detect light. According to the change of voltage detected by the sensors, make the car perform corresponding actions.

A UNIX like operating system (Raspbian, on a mini sd card) runs the Rpi so the 12 yr old needs to learn that... Fun but hard unless helpful friends who know Unix stuff. 4, All the software to run the Picar-V is written in PYTHON and can be downloaded from the web. (done by step 3 above), and onto a laptop (widows seems best). Actually if the 12yr old has a interest in programming this kit will expand the 12 yr olds interest and have a lot of fun. But if the 12 yr old looses interest quickly.... This Kit is not for them. I'm 82yr old and built the car in two evenings, The software I've been goofing around with for all summer (3 to 4 months) and I almost have it running (by Christmas I hope). Question: What do you do about missing parts? Missing a M4 grub screw and I just started
Answer: Greetings - just send an email to their tech support address. They will send you one with no issues. I had a bad camera and they sent me a new one without question.. I would purchase more things from these folks.
Question: Can protected 18650 batteries be used (they are longer than unprotected ones
Answer: Not easily, depending on how much longer those are (sorry, I'm unfamiliar with those, but I've read "a few millimeters" depending on circuit). The provided battery holder can possibly accommodate 1.5mm to 2mm extra, by compressing the spring more. If you use a different battery holder, be mindful that it is mounted on a 10cm wide platform between two 3-LED boards, and there seems to be another 1mm at best on each side. Of course, you could enlarge the holes where the LED boards are mounted so to move them out an another millimeter on each side... Alternatively, you could mount the holder a litter closer to the ground and let it overhang over the LED boards... you have about 2 cm between the lower edge of the LEDs and the bottom of the rear wheel platform, and then another 11-12mm to the ground. that seems plenty of clearance if you don't plan on doing rough terrain.... I sincerely hope this helps. Maybe others have a protected set at hand and can test and reply to your question.
Question: What is the recommended battery supply voltage and current? I want to use a 7.4 5a lipo pack
Answer: Hi, the kit comes with a battery holder for two 18650 batteries (the batteries need to be purchased separately). You lipo pack should work well, just find a different way to secure it. If you research on their website, it seems that use a GS2678 voltage regulator to step down (a PWM buck converter) to 5V a source that can be up to 25V and it can drive up to 5A loads. An alternative way to power the board (and Pi) is via the USB port on the HAT, that appears to be connected to the 5V rail. Again, look for schematics on their website.

Answer: There's actually a bracket built onto the inside of lid (can't remember if it's the top or bottom. I think bottom) that your 2.5" drive slides into. It's a tight fit, so no need for screws. It has a short SATA cable that runs to the board and provides both power and data.

Answer: There is an SD card slot on the shorter side of the case. Please insert the SD card into the slot after assembling the kit.

Answer: It depends if you're putting it on a case with the fan mounted on tbe bottom or top. It you want to minimize the amount of dust in the case. I put mine pulling air out on the top. This will pull air over the chips and the heat away. If you pull the air out of the case, the new air will come in (mostly) through the hole or slots in the bottom of the case (minimizing dust) and will more evenly cool the entire board.

Answer: Mine is/was 30x30x7mm Mine worked well but failed after a few days. Labists (great service, btw) partially refunded so I could replace it. I ordered these but see they're out of stock now--worked fine so far (two weeks): /gp/product/B0792BW2VH/ NOTE You're probably aware, but remember that the leads are separate and not in a single connector limiting the fan's wires to two adjacent pins. Most PC fans rely on that setup, but your Raspberry Pi doesn't.
