74HC595 Shift Register and LEDs

74HC595 is a Serial to Parallel Converter which has eight outputs (perfect) and three inputs that you use to feed data into it a bit at a time.

This chip makes it a little slower to drive the LEDs (you can only change the LEDs about 500,000 times a second instead of 8,000,000 a second) but it's still really fast, way faster than humans can detect, so it's worth it.

74HC595 shift register is a type of chip that holds what can be thought of as eight memory locations, each of which can either be a 1 or a 0. To set each of these values on or off, we feed in the data using the 'Data' and 'Clock' pins of the chip.

LCD1602 Display module

LCD1602 module is a display that has an LED backlight and can display two rows with up to 16 characters on each row. You can see the rectangles for each character on the display and the pixels that make up each character. The display is just white on blue and is intended for showing text.

Lining up the display with the top of the breadboard helps to identify its pins without too much counting, especially if the breadboard has its rows numbered with row 1 as the top row of the board. Do not forget, the long yellow lead that links the slider of the pot to pin 3 of the display. The 'pot' is used to control the contrast of the display.

DC Motors and L293D Transistor

In this project you will learn how to control a small DC motor using an UNO R3 and a L293D transistor, which is a very useful chip. It can actually control two motors independently. We are just using half the chip in this lesson, most of the pins on the right hand side of the chip are for controlling a second motor.

L293D is quadruple high-current half-H drivers and designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 1 A at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V. 4 digit 7 segment display

7 segment displays consist of 7 LEDs, called segments, arranged in the shape of an “8”. At 1ft of RG58 run 14MHz(20m band) it has a 0.013dB loss, at 440MHz (70cm band) it has 0.08dB loss... which yeah if you add everything up it could be rather substantial. As a patch cable though. If you want to try patching with a LMR400UF, that’s all on you, but you can’t beat the flexibility of RG58 If you’re going to attempt to run say 100ft of RG58 on 70cm yeah... 90% of your power goes to de-icing the feed line. Answer:	Beware of today's gauge sizes like this one, china wire includes rubber jacket measuring its size sold in milimeter diameter, as 10mm, 12mm.. It can be much larger than 2 or 4 AWG with only 12 AWG inside unlike USA AWG that is measure wire itself. Many like these are calling their wire 2,4,6 gauge size wire. Get it, watch for it 4 gauge "Size"? AWG size is never mentioned even.. Today these companies don't simply lie to us advertising complete wire "size" including the rubber cover not actually sold by its true "AWG Gauge" of the internal wire as it's the way metric wire is truly sold. We are supposed to just get screwed over I guess? By not actually selling true #4 AWG Gauge wire in this that's why these only carry 300 amps at best and are SOOO CHEAP, get what you pay for..lol fwiw: My "true" 4 AWG gauge 20ft cables carry 600 amp, weigh near 13 pnds. The best way to know if it's true gauge is look at weight of cables but many hide it or intentionally misprint it at .5 ounces or something more ignorant? These may be real copper but at only half the gauge is why half the amps so you'll freeze your arse off anyway waiting to charge a dead bat...Look' a set of "True" 4 Gauge 20ft cables here..See price for a real 4 gauge copper set.. Forney 52867 Real 4 Ga copper is not cheap....TOPDC are still lying about gauge like most others imo by not posting cross referenced US AWG specs, so what, it's real copper in it but flowing only 300 amp it's about 8 ga wire at best inside maybe 10 like dollar store is, but' heavy duty rubber so it's more heavy. LCD1602 Display module

LCD1602 module is a display that has an LED backlight and can display two rows with up to 16 characters on each row. You can see the rectangles for each character on the display and the pixels that make up each character. The display is just white on blue and is intended for showing text.

Lining up the display with the top of the breadboard helps to identify its pins without too much counting, especially if the breadboard has its rows numbered with row 1 as the top row of the board. Do not forget, the long yellow lead that links the slider of the pot to pin 3 of the display. The 'pot' is used to control the contrast of the display.

DC Motors and L293D Transistor

In this project you will learn how to control a small DC motor using a Mega2560 board and a L293D transistor, which is a very useful chip. It can actually control two motors independently. We are just using half the chip in this lesson, most of the pins on the right hand side of the chip are for controlling a second motor.

L293D is quadruple high-current half-H drivers and designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 1 A at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V. The L293D is also designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 600-mA at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V and drive inductive loads such as relays, solenoids, dc and bipolar stepping motors, as well as other high-current/high-voltage loads in positive-supply applications.

74HC595 Shift Register and LEDs

74HC595 is a Serial to Parallel Converter which has eight outputs (perfect) and three inputs that you use to feed data into it a bit at a time.

This chip makes it a little slower to drive the LEDs (you can only change the LEDs about 500,000 times a second instead of 8,000,000 a second) but it's still really fast, way faster than humans can detect, so it's worth it!

74HC595 shift register is a type of chip that holds what can be thought of as eight memory locations, each of which can either be a 1 or a 0. To set each of these values on or off, we feed in the data using the 'Data' and 'Clock' pins of the chip.
