User questions & answers
Question: | Is this the best two esata port card out there right now under |
Answer: | I dont know if its the best but it works for older systems very good. Im still running this for the past two years. |
Question: | Can i get full sata 3speeds on the asus rampage 2? Samsung Evo 250gb ssd |
Answer: | Afraid not, the manufactures specs clearly state "Note: The card slots into an x4 lane however the interface in limited to x2 specifications". Which means the x4 card is only using 2 lanes, limiting throughput to 500MB/s max, just shy of 600MB/s for full SATA3. Not unusual for SATA cards. The performance, non-the-less, is remarkable, and if you need the card to get more SATA ports, it's a small compromise. If you are doing it to utilize the caching function of the Hyper-Duo mode, you'll not realize max performance, but will see better performance than with a HDD, so it's still worth it. To be more clear, I am referencing the manufactures specs on this card, as PCI 2.0 provides for 500Mbps per lane, utilizing both lanes would provide up to 1000Mbps I/O, however, this specific model of SATA card DOES NOT utilize both lanes as it's limited by the chipset it uses. This card is over 2 years old now and has been superseded by newer more capable cards, but if you are using older hard drives, and need a budget interface, it's still good choice. |
Question: | Does this card support booting from the attached devices |
Answer: | I purchased mine on Nov 19, 2012. Assuming this is still the same model, I can say with confidence that it does. I boot to an SSD using this card. |
Question: | Anyone get this to work with two port multipliers ? Will only ever work with one at a time for me |
Answer: | I have one extra thought. Let's say you use up all 4 ports on the SYBA card, and you still want to hook up another hard drive. One way to do it is to add a USB 3.0 PCI card (which I have done). Put an SSD into an external USB 3.0 enclosure, and I can get excellent transfer speed via the USB 3.0 PCI card. I assume that I can use a USB 3.0 Hub to attach more external drives, if necessary. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Do these fit the factory headphones that come in a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban |
Answer: | I own a 2004 Chevy Tahoe LT. The truck has the factory DVD player. They fit , but are difficult to put on and stay on. I ended up gluing them on. |

The I/O CREST SI-PEX40129 is a great accelerated secondary storage solution for any workstation with true PCIe 3.0 x8 bandwidth (x16 Interface). It has two M.2 NVMe ports to accept two NVMe M.2 SSDs, so each NVMe M.2 SSD has dedicated PCIe 3.0 x4 bus bandwidth. It delivers transfer speeds 20 times faster than SATA SSDs. By by-passing the traditional PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe solutions, using the SI-PEX40129 will allow user add 2 M.2 NVMe into any non-Bifurcation PCIe x16 slot to achieve their full potential with a bandwidth of up to 6,500 MB/s.
Unlike onboard DMI 3.0 based NVMe solutions or Single NVMe PCI-e x4, which are forced to share a single PCIe 3.0 x4 lane with the motherboard's data ports, the SI-PEX40129 combines 2- M.2 drives to be able to run on PCIe 3.0 x16 lane. This unique architecture allows the drive to interface directly with the platform's CPU, which provides PCIe x4 bandwidth for each NVMe SSD!
- AS Media's ASM2824 has a PCIe 3.0 x8 upstream port as well as 2 PCIe 3.0 x4 downstream ports. The switch is designed primarily for storage devices.
- SI-PEX40129 card uses ASM2824 switches and therefore does not rely on PCIe bifurcation supported by CPU or PCH (they will work on closed end systems that have limited PCIe bifurcation capabilities).
- Dedicated PCIe 3.0 x8 bus bandwidth fully maximizes NVMe SSDs performance
- Delivers unprecedented fast transfer speed via intelligently aggregated Dual x4 PCIe 3.0 bus bandwidth
- NVMe RAID is supported base on the motherboard chipsets
User questions & answers
Question: | Why does this card use 16 pcie lanes? two x4 nvme drives only need 8 pcie lanes |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work with sas drives |
Answer: | Very likely. I installed it in a 1U. |
Question: | I have 2 x wd 10tb sas disk, can i use this pci on pc as data disk |
Answer: | From the firmware of the card (Ctrl + C) at boot up, you can setup RAID 0, 1, 1E, 10. If you download the "MegaRAID storage manage", you can setup RAID 5. With Windows 8 and 10 you can setup RAID 5 using the built-in Disk Management of windows as well. I use this card with 6 x (3TB SAS 6Gbs HDDs) in a RAID 0 for gaming. For me this has been the best option as SSD for the amount of space I need is to costly. With Gaming you want to stay away from software RAID, as you want all your CPU clocks to work on your game. |
Question: | Using Windows 10, can I use for a boot drive |
Answer: | Hi, Yes you can. I believe you can backplane and backplane again.Hope this helps. I run 3 spindals, 2 solid state hybrids, and 2 solidstates. Have a good oneJim |
Question: | Only half of my drives show up. one sas connector appears to be dead. is there a bios i can access |
Answer: | The number of ports is the actual number of physical connections on the card. Each of the SAS SFF connectors has four SAS/SATA capable connections and you can buy a fan out cable that will allow you directly to connect 8 physical drives to the card - four drives on each of the two SAS ports. However, you can also get an interface known as an SAS expander. An expander will have one or two SAS input connectors and multiple SAS connectors for output. You can plug those into the card and control many more drives. For example, if you had one of these cards and two expanders which each had one input and four outputs, you could plug one expander into each of the SAS ports on the card and that would give you 8 SAS connectors and you could plug 4 drives into each SAS port on the expander using the same type of cable that would allow you to connect four drives directly to each port on the card. You can plug expanders into expanders too to support more and more drives. The quoted maximum number of drives just tells you how many physical SAS or SATA drives you can plug in if you have lots and lots of expanders. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this card work with drives bigger than 3TB |
Answer: | I'm using two Seagate 4TB drives with this card and they work fine at full speed (same as the motherboard SATA). |
Question: | Is it bootable through the BIOS? If I plug in a hard drive to be my primary could I install Windows |
Answer: | Yes I am using this as my Windows 8.1 boot drive. I was able to do a clean install of Windows 8.1 without having to do anything special. However to use both of the SATA ports on this card plus the 4 SATA ports on my motherboard I had to load the specific drivers for the card, plus the motherboard drivers. I checked the date and version of the drivers on the disk, they are the same as the ones on the website. |
Question: | Does the computer load a special windows driver during boot? I am running Win 7 64 bit. I want to add SATA 3 ports but without having the card have to |
Answer: | I'm using Win 7 G4 bit also. And Yes, I needed to load special drivers, for configure the disk for boot I did the following: 1) Create a new windows installation but just for load the drives that the card's cd have. You can see the drive but can't use it. Reset.2) Create again a new windows installation. Select the new drive, format it and use it. |
Question: | so if I put this into a x16 PCIE 1.0 port and hooked an SSD to it, what would be my max bandwidth to the SSD |
Answer: | Hello, well, the maximum bandwith provided by the PCI-E x16 gen 1.0 standard port; it is greater than the PCI-E x1 gen 1.0, and not having now many specifications on these standards on Wikipedia.org I have found about that for x1 slot the bandwith is 2.5 GB/s (250 MB/s) and for x16 slot it is 8 GB/s (? MB/s). I hope this is enough. Greetings,Massimo. |

Question: | How do i access syba pci-express 8-port internal sata 6gbps dual chipset pci-e v2.0 x 1 slot controller card during the bios boot |
Answer: | I hope I understand right. The card's Option ROM produces the SATA Controller Mode splash screen. If you're not going to be booting from any SATA devices connected to that card you can change the BIOS setting to skip that card's Option ROM from the boot sequence. If you CANT access the card splash screen, or your keyboard is non responsive during this time; clear the CMOS to force re-detect of hardware changes.Clearing the CMOS forces re-enumertion of all hardware to resolve resource conflicts, which sounds like it could be the case. (A range overlap?) |

Question: | Does this card's eSATA port support Port Multiplier? Can I use this card with StarTech 4 Bay eSATA USB 3.0 to SATA Hard Drive Docking Station |
Answer: | I use it with the single-bay StarTech dock, so I don't see why it wouldn't work with the 4-bay ST unit. Just be aware the 4-bay dock doesn't have any active cooling for the drives, so they will get HOT during transfers. Before I had the 1-bay ST dock (that has a built-in fan), I rigged up a 120mm case fan to a cannibalized 12V AC brick to blow air on a HDD to keep it as cool as possible during operation. |
Question: | Can you have 1 active eSATA and 1 active SATA or do they have to be either all external or all internal |
Answer: | There are 2 jumpers on the board that allows you to choose. You can have 1 int and 1 ext. |
Question: | does this board support hot swappable drives. I wamt to add a hotswappable case internally. my intel mother board only supports 1 sata3 and I need |
Answer: | With Windows 7--yes--XP you have to power down replace drive and reboot. |

LSI is pleased to introduce SafeStore encryption services which offer instant secure erase and local key management for self-encrypting drives (SEDs). This technology represents a significant step forward in securing a drive's data from any unauthorized access or modification resulting from theft loss or repurposing of drives. Instant secure erase permanently removes data when repurposing or demissioning SEDs. SafeStore local key management provides the necessary management and protection of SEDs using a simple pass phrase security key identifier and security key file which can be set and applied to all SEDs assigned to a MegaRAID controller. This removes the plexity of managing each SED's unique encryption key and essentially relieves the administrator from most of the daily t

Question: | I do not understand why it does not show my sata hard drives, it only detects sas hard drives, should I perform additional configuration tasks |
Answer: | The RocketRAID 3720A has only internal ports. However the RocketRAID 3742A has external and internal ports. |
Question: | Anyone used it with windows |
Answer: | No, the 3740A has 4 Mini-SAS connectors, each of which support 4 drives. Meaning, the 3740A when probably configured, supports 16 drives. |
Question: | Sorry for the question, but raid is mandatory for this card? or i can just plug 4 hdd to each port and see them separately in windows |
Answer: | The RocketRAID 3740A is a 12Gb/s SAS/SATA PCIe 3.0 RAID controller - it supports any type of SAS/SATA Enterprise or NAS hard drive, or SSD (12Gb/s or 6Gb/s models). The RocketRAID 2840A is also PCIe 3.0. However, it was designed for 6Gb/s SAS/SATA Enterprise or NAS hard drives, and SSD's (not 12Gb/s models). |
