User questions & answers
Question: | is the power supply autovolts (110-220V |
Answer: | The power supply we provided is for the USA market only, you could use the 220V adaptor as long as is DC 9V / 150mA spec. |
Question: | Can audio from a connected analog turntable be sent directly to my home theater pre-amp via the optical output |
Answer: | You can connect the analog turntable between UA2D and home theater preamp directly via the RCA connector, not the optical. |
Question: | What size is the headphone input quarter inch or stereo mini |
Answer: | 3.5mm (mini) headphone jack |
Question: | How many ohms does this preamp power? Also, will connecting this to an amp be better |
Answer: | This is pre-amp, so it cannot power speakers. Ohms are not relevant in that sense. It probably can power many headphones from the monitor jack on the front, but volume may be limited. Also can drive powered speakers that have their own internal power amplifiers from the RCA outputs on the back. Yes, you definitely need a power amp to drive non-powered speakers. Now, the amp can be a standalone basic or integrated into another device such as a receiver, or as I indicated, powered speakers. But don't let that fool you. You need an amp somewhere in the system, and this is not one since it is a pre-amp. |

The new Parasound Zphono USB is a high-quality phono preamplifier engineered for optimum vinyl LP playback quality. The Zphono USB has precise RIAA equalization and uses high quality parts to achieve extremely low levels of noise and distortion plus accurate frequency response. In the digital realm, the Parasound Zphono USB has an A-D converter and USB output to make high quality digital recordings of your vinyl LP collection a snap. Its unique front panel USB gain control and USB clipping indicator enable you to optimize the USB record output level to achieve a superior signal-to-noise ratio with most PC or Mac phono recording software. If you have more sophisticated recording software, the rear-panel RIAA defeat switch allows you to defeat the internal hardware-based RIAA equalization in favor of software-based digital RIAA equalization. Two separate power transformers for analog and digital circuits assure the cleanest response and lowest noise. The Parasound Zphono USB has stereo input jacks for an MC or MM phonograph cartridge. A choice of MM-47 k?, MC-47 k? or MC-100 ? enables you to select the ideal gain and impedance for your cartridge. The Zphono USB includes two pairs of stereo line-level input jacks so you can also make digital recordings from other analog sources such as an AM/FM tuner, satellite radio or tape deck. A rumble filter switch and mono/stereo switch can further refine the quality of analog phono listening with older and mono LPs. A headphone jack is provided for easy recording monitoring.
- Dual transformers and analog power supplies - AC polarity switch to help eliminate hum
- RIAA defeat switch allows for post recording digital RIAA equalization - Settings for MM-47 kΩ, MC-47 kΩ or MC-100 Ω cartridges
- 2 additional inputs for recording line level audio (Tape, Tuner, Sat Radio, etc.) - Headphone output for monitoring recording
User questions & answers
Question: | Can its mc option handle the mc cartridge dl-80 mc or dsn-80 with high output (1,6mv @ 50 mm/s 1khz) used in denon dp-47f turntable |
Answer: | What is lx-lps? |
Question: | Can the zphono serve as a preamp feeding straight into a main amp or do I need an integrated amp |
Answer: | Honestly, I am guessing, very close to what RIAA equalization is? You can go to Rega website or Google specifications of this preamp, but there is no mention of decibel increase. But let me tell you, it does sound good. Caution: it is only for MM and not MC. |
Question: | How can I connect this to a mixer, then amp for two turntables |
Answer: | Honestly, I believe it doesn't unless it is too long like more than 100 meters??? A few feet won't really matter. The quality of the USB cable might matter though. I'll be frank with you, I never used this USB output of this Rega 'cause I just wanted to play my records. |
Question: | Can this item be rack mounted? Image shows no screw holes |
Answer: | The Rega Fono Mini A2D uses a TI PCM2900B for ADC and USB 2.0 interface. It's capable of 48kHz / 16 bit sampling at a maximum. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can a computer line out into a DAC run into the Aux input |
Answer: | You should not need a pre-amp if you have a PHONO input on your receiver. That input is usually amped to RIAA specs and will play your signal from your magnetic cartridge. If you find that the sound output from your turntable is very low, you will need a pre-amp. If your turntable has one built-in, turn it on. Otherwise just buy a stand alone pre-amp and hook your turntable into it and then the pre-amp into your receiver. |
Question: | what is the highest resolution this unit can input |
Answer: | The AUX is an isolated line level pass through. The pre-amp is only connected to TT to raise the weak phono cartridge signal to a line level signal. This set-up reduces the number of inputs required on your reciever or power amp since many do not offer a phono input anymore. |
Question: | Will this work to place in between my turntable (with no phono pre) and my krk rokit 5 powered monitor speakers? And can I use this to control volume |
Answer: | A PREamp is just that, it raises the signal coming from a device like your turntable. You still need a main AMP to connect the preamp to. The main AMP connects to the speakers. If you have powered speakers like computer speakers or a sound bar you would connect this to the turntable and the powered speakers or sound bar as they have an amp in them. If they are plain old speakers you need a main amp which will probably have a preamp in it for turntables. You would need to read the specs. |
Question: | When i play my lp's can i hear sound through the computer or do i need it hooked into a reciever |
Answer: | David, depends, if you are plugging into an amplifier/receiver w/o a phono preamp then the answer is yes. If the amp does not have a specific phono plug in then the answer is yes, you will need a preamp. Also, my turntable is from 1978 and does not have a built in preamp, I hope this helps. |

Designed to satisfy audiophiles and music lovers, the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD USB audio card adds high-definition audio to any PC or notebook with a USB 2.0 port. It uses fine audio components and THX-enhanced audio technology to deliver rich, pristine sound. The X-Fi HD is also a useful device for DJs and turntablists: it features a phono preamp, which allows you to create digital recordings from your turntable. A software toolbox has been included to help facilitate vinyl recordings.
Note: this sound card is not compatible with Mac systems.
High-Fidelity Components Deliver Rich SoundThanks to its careful audio engineering, the X-Fi HD delivers excellent audio performance. It produces a signal-to-noise ratio of 114 dB, which ensures that audio playback is pure and distortion-free. The card's components make a particular difference when playing music: high and mid tones are reproduced with pitch-perfect detail, and lows are defined and tight.
THX-Enhanced Surround Sound for Your PC
The X-Fi HD utilizes TruStudio Pro, an audio technology developed by THX. This technology works to expand your PC's audio channels, which allows surround sound content to be reproduced faithfully, making audio more expansive, immersive, and realistic. Even if you're listening through headphones, you'll experience the surround sound effect.
In addition, TruStudio Pro uses a variety of techniques to make your music sound livelier. It restores your music's natural frequency range--something that is often lost when music is compressed into MP3 format. It also fills in low frequencies, which adds a little extra impact to bass. You'll be able to enjoy higher quality audio, even when streaming MP3s from your music library.
Record Directly From Your Turntable
Turntable artists, DJs, and vinyl collectors will find the X-Fi HD especially useful. The sound system features an integrated phono preamp, which allows users to create recordings directly from a turntable. The preamp uses RIAA equalization to minimize loss of quality during analog-to-digital conversion. This allows the X-Fi HD to create recordings that are faithful to the original vinyl.
The X-Fi HD comes bundled with Creative's Media Toolbox software to make recording easy. Whether you're recording from your turntable or a microphone, the Media Toolbox helps you compress audio data and convert it into a variety of different formats. It also has several basic editing functions, which allow you to clean up, enhance, and embellish your music as you please.
Supports Wide Range of I/O Connectivity
Built for versatility, the X-Fi HD supports connections to a variety of devices. It features ports that can accommodate microphones, headphones, home studio speakers, portable music players, AV Receivers, and more. Ports include a 1/4-inch microphone input, a 1/4-inch headphone output, an RCA input and output, and an optical SPDIF input and output. Headphone performance is enhanced with the studio-grade headphone amp.
Compatibility and System Requirements
The X-Fi HD USB sound card is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP (Professional x64 Edition, Service Pack 2 or above), Windows Vista, and Windows 7. (The card is not Mac compatible.)
To install the card, you'll need an Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD equivalent processor, 2.2 GHz or faster; 1 GB RAM; at least 600 MB free hard disk space; an available USB 2.0 port; and a CD/DVD drive for software installation.
The X-Fi HD is backed by a one-year limited hardware warranty.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I go from Digital Audio In to line out(headphones |
Answer: | Hi, my Dynavector DV xx-2 mc cartridge output is .23 mv. In my opinion you may need to test between the MM & the MC selectable setting to decide which sounds better for your system. Again in my opinion you will probably find a setting pleasing for your set-up, however read the return policy from the seller( before purchase) and decide upon your comfort level with purchasing. I own 2 of the Parasound MM/MC Zphono's and gave a 3rd as a gift to a vinyl friend. fyi I am not familiar w/ MC cartridges over .8 mv output. All my MM carts were over 1.0 mv . If you are not comfortable with purchasing this on Amazon ...go to the Audioadvisor.com website. get their ph# and talk to a audio consultant-their good guys with real knowledge. Good Luck :) |
Question: | Will this device function on a usb bus? i have limited usb ports (3) and would like a additional ports to use sometimes |
Answer: | Zphone includes a preamp so it can feed a power amp. Not asked, but I am so far impressed with the sound quality of the zphone when used with my old Phillips 312 TT. |
Question: | is EAX positional audio 5.1 supported in games on the digital optic output |
Answer: | As far as I know, you can only use one turntable input (indicated by PHONO) at each turn -- the other two inputs are for other analog sources such as tape recorder. The USB output allows you to record any of these analog audio/music onto, say, your computer, hence digitize them and mix them. When dealing with digital music, one should of course use a software (such as Audacity which is free or you use any Audio Mixer Software )... However, to play the digital audio, you should have a DAC (digital to analog device) connected to either your amplifier (--> passive speakers) or to your active speakers. |
Question: | Can someone give me a rundown on the software that's included with this? Enhancements/levels/settings, etc. Does it have a graphic equalizer |
Answer: | Yes, the version that i have has 2 screw holes on each side of the unit. It's 1/2 rack space size. Also a great phono preamp! |
