Question:	Does this work with windows
Answer:	It should work with Windows 8 though I only used with Windows 10. If you insert a DVD and a video player does not start up, you may need a player that will recognize the drive. On a recommendation from a friend, I installed "VLC media player" and this app opens when I insert a DVD into the Riodadas player. VLC is a free and open source media player that works with all Windows versions. You can get the player here: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Answer:	This optical drive can read data off of CD, DVD, and bluray discs, but to play the specially-formatted *presentations* typically found on each media (i.e. commercial movies) you will need appropriate software, none of which is included with this drive. These days most operating systems come with free CD audio and DVD video player software, but due to costly licensing most systems do *not* include bluray video player software, and likewise don't expect expensive multimedia suites like Nero to include an actual *bluray player* unless explicitly stated in the product description (I believe Nero 2014 was the last Nero suite to include it). You can find free bluray player software like VLC and Media Player Classic (MPC-HC), but they may not work properly if you don't have *other* software installed with the necessary drivers. I recommend AnyDVD which unlocks your optical drive on a per-disc basis so that not only can you use *any* free video player software, but it also disables annoying features like unskippable advertisments, and most importantly it lets you watch videos from any global region.
Question:	Will this unit burn and read BluRay M-disks
Answer:	In my experience, the drive has been great - I've been using it to burn DVDs/BD-Rs & it can be used for 3D playback so long as you have software that supports it. Is this the best drive on the market? No - some pricier drives have extra features, such as HD upscaling for DVDs (which I think is useless, btw). Is it the best drive under $100? Yeah, in my opinion, it is.In regards to write speed, it depends on the type of media: 16X is the fastest write speed for BD-R, 24X for DVD-R (but that speed is only available in DVD drives - the fastest DVD-R speed available on a BD drive is 16X), & 48X for CD-R. The -DL, -RW, & -RAM variants always have lower speeds. However, as the other answer mentions, the fastest BD-R discs currently available have a maximum write speed of 6X. In terms of read speed: the BD-R read speed may not be the best (12X), but it's plenty. It's faster than needed for BluRay playback & fine for the BD rips that I've done.

Answer:	1st issue is that Win 7 is no longer supported....2nd issue is the Win 7 appears to be looking for a DVD Burner program. Suggest down loading VLC 64 DVD/rw program. Make sure Win 7 is up to date which may be hard to do.

Answer:	Short answer: Serial ATA and SATA are the same thing.Long answer: Back in 1984 when IBM releaced it's PC AT, the AT stood for "Advanced Technology". Hard Drives were connected using the "AT Attachment" interface (or ATA). Modern day computers use the much faster "Serial ATA" interface or "SATA" to connect CD/DVD's and hard drives. Serial ATA and SATA are just two different ways of saying the same thing.

Answer:	Hi Ricko,If the Tv has an HDMI input available you go from DVD player hdmi out to the TV using an HDMI cable if not RCA audio & video which are yellow for video Red for right side audio & white for left side audio. Look at the back of your directive box if it has an s video out use that for video to the dvd player & RCA audio cable red/white for sound. If the directive box does not have an S video out then use RCA cable.for audio & video.

Answer:	Yes, that is what I use it for exclusively. First I record a program on my dvr, then I play the DVR'd program while recording on the Toshiba. I have a component cable (3 prongs) that runs from my cable box (video, audio L and audio R out) to my Toshiba (video, audio L and audio R in). Works great. This also allows me to control when I start and stop the recording. Sometimes a movie will not last a full two hours, but will stop 10 minutes before to show "coming attractions," etc.

Answer:	If you don't have a cable or satellite receiver and are receiving your tv signals with an antenna, you either have a tv with a digital tuner or a separate digital tuner/ converter box connected to your tv. If you're using a digital converter box from your antenna to the tv, connect the outputs from the digital converter box into the inputs of Toshiba DR430 Recorder and then connect the outputs of the recorder to the TV inputs. You will be connecting from the video (yellow jack), audio (red & white jacks) to the same colored jacks in & out from the Toshiba DVD Recorder to an input on the TV. If you're not using a digital converter box already for your local stations, you will have to buy one to connect to the Toshiba Recorder to record local shows because the recorder does not have a tuner in it. You can buy them for about $30 bucks at Wal-Mart or Radio Shack. I gave you a lot of information but it's easy to setup. They can guide you at Radio Shack. I have one box hooked just this way and it works fine. Hope this was of help.

Answer:	The DVD recorder's input connections are RF (coax), composite, and S-video. S-video is analog. If you have S-video output from your computer, and separate audio to the RCA jacks, it probably would work. Haven't tried it. If you're thinking about recording protected signals (say, play a protected DVD on your computer and record on the DVD Recorder), don't expect that would work because the electronics typically disrupt those signals from being recorded.

Answer:	USB 2.0 is the *type* of USB port. Currently we are up to USB 3.0 which is even faster. This will work in a USB 3.0 port and you don't need blazing speed to read a DVD.

Answer:	Perhaps this is info is too late, but I had this LG drive for about 6 months using it with Win-7.I just upgraded to Windows 10 last week, and the drive works just fine. I didn't have to update any drivers or anything.Unless Window 10 found the drivers and installed them in the background, so I didn't notice, but the bottom line is that it works fine.

Answer:	Yes, you simply insert the original in top slot, insert blank in bottom slot - close both slots and it begins the recording process. It is pretty fast, at least way way faster than my computer was. When it finishes, the bottom slot opens so you can remove your copied disc, a digital display reads " 0 failures", or "failure" if a disc is damaged or protected. Then you can insert another blank to copy same again - or remove both and insert new original on top and new blank on bottom. All you need is an outlet - no computer needed at all! I love it! Had mine for about 3 or 4 months - it is awesome!

Answer:	Indeed, the cable is USB 2, not 3. This shouldn't be an issue, though, because the drive speed is the limiting factor. Reading & writing CDs & DVDs (not Blu-Ray disks) is slow enough that USB 3's high data rates are wasted.

Answer:	Yes it does work on Mac, BUT the drive will not mount until you insert a disc into the drive. I tested this on both Yosemite and Sierra. On Sierra, I tested it against USB-c, which is the smaller port found on newer (2017 and forward) Macbook Pros. I used a USB-c to USB-a adapter to do so. It worked fine.

Answer:	As Paul O. said, "No". This is only a DVD drive - just the hardware. It would normally be controlled by a computer. The computer then would handle the input from your VHS player and send the information to this drive. You will also need software (program) to make the format transfer.

Answer:	A bunch of nonsense answers! Idiots! Yes. One of these works on my old mac pro 2009 but IIRC it took removing the black bezel on the front of the drive for it to work with the "stick your tounge out" mac keyboard commands. I don't recall offhand if my 2008 had sata or IDE for the optical. If SATA, then yes it would work there too, subject to removing the bezel (which pretty much snaps off). As for other flavors of macs...have no clue at all.

Answer:	This works, but if you do not have the correct port, you have to get an adapter for around 20 bucks. My macbook pro needed a USB Type-C hub pro to use the apiker external drive.
