14 best kvm switch with audio cables

A KVM switch with audio cables is a device used in computing environments to manage multiple computers or servers from a single console while also transmitting audio signals. KVM stands for "Keyboard, Video, and Mouse," and these switches allow users to control multiple computers using a single keyboard, monitor, mouse, and in this case, audio output. Here's some information about KVM switches with audio cables:

  1. Functionality: A KVM switch with audio cables allows users to switch between different computers or servers seamlessly. By pressing a button or using a hotkey combination, users can switch control and audio output from one computer to another without physically disconnecting and reconnecting cables.

  2. Use Cases:

    • Data Centers: KVM switches are commonly used in data centers to manage and maintain multiple servers efficiently.
    • Office Environments: They can be handy in offices where users need to switch between different desktop computers or laptops.
    • Multimedia Editing: In multimedia editing environments, KVM switches with audio support allow users to work on multiple systems while sharing audio output as needed.
  3. Audio Support: These KVM switches come equipped with audio connectors, typically for speakers and microphones. This enables users to hear audio from the selected computer and, in some cases, use a microphone to communicate with it.

  4. Port Options: KVM switches come in various configurations, including the number of computer ports they support. Common options include 2-port, 4-port, 8-port, and 16-port KVM switches.

  5. Compatibility: KVM switches are designed to work with a range of computer systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, and various server platforms. They often use standard connectors such as USB or PS/2 for keyboard and mouse connections.

  6. Video Quality: KVM switches are available in different video resolutions, so you should choose one that matches the resolution of your monitor for optimal display quality.

  7. Hotkey Commands: Many KVM switches allow users to switch between computers using keyboard hotkeys, making it quick and convenient to switch control.

  8. Daisy Chaining: Some advanced KVM switches offer daisy-chaining capabilities, allowing users to connect multiple KVM switches together to control even more computers.

  9. Remote Management: In addition to local control, some KVM switches also offer remote management options, enabling administrators to control computers over a network.

  10. Security: KVM switches may offer security features like password protection to prevent unauthorized access to connected computers.

When choosing a KVM switch with audio support, it's essential to consider your specific needs, such as the number of computers to be controlled, the audio requirements, and the compatibility with your devices. Additionally, check for user reviews and compatibility with your operating systems and hardware to ensure a smooth experience.

User questions & answers

Question: why does this need 2 USB connections to each computer
Answer: If you have a wireless keyboard/mouse combination you will only need 1 USB port and can the other to switch a USB printer.
Question: Can this switch between 2 VGA inputs without connecting a keyboard and mouse
Answer: Can you clairify your question? 1. Are you asking if it will switch between two VGA inputs while using the same mouse and keyboard input? If so, the answer is no. When you click the button, it changes the VGA input as well as the mouse/keyboard input. 2. Are you asking if it will be switch between two VGA without having to connect a keyboad/mouse? Then yes, if you connect just two VGA inputs, it will switch between them with no issues.
Question: Could two of the 2-port switches be daisy changed together to switch between 3 computers (mouse and keyboard only
Answer: That might work, but it sounds like it would be a pain to switch between computers. Check out http://synergy-foss.org/. If your 3 computers are all on the same network, you can install Synergy on each one, and share the keyboard and mouse between them. It's seamless. There's no switching involved. Your mouse moves between the monitors as if it was all one big desktop. You can even copy and paste between computers. It's like magic. It's not perfect, but it's pretty cool.
Question: can I switch computers with a hotkey
Answer: Takoma's response is correct. You can use the default Scroll Lock-Scroll Lock-Enter hotkey to do the switching instead of the dedicated button provided. In my experience, the dedicated button seems to switch faster than the hotkey. The screen swaps and keyboard/mouse input seems to come alive in under 2 seconds with the dedicated button, as opposed to using the hotkey which seems to get the keyboard/mouse going in about 2 seconds, but the screen catches up another 2 seconds later for a total of 4 seconds.

User questions & answers

Question: How many monitors can this support? I have three monitors that I want to share between two computers in different combinations
Answer: If it's like the one I used to have, then it can support only one.But the bad news for you will be that while there are a few KVM switches which can support 2 monitors, a quick web search just now didn't find any that support more than that. HOWEVER there are a few ways around that to get more than 2 monitors.I assume that you have a DVI monitor since that's what this switch supports. If you can find a DVI-to-html converter (I know I've seen one in the past but I didn't find one just now) then if you convert your DVI to html and feed that to an html splitter box which allows multiple outputs, then you can run each of those to an html->dvi converter. But while in theory this approach would allow you to run anywhere from 2 to however many monitors you want to use (read "can afford"), in practice this setup would be so complex that it would probably (a) give more problems than you're likely to be able to solve, and (b) would cost a lot more than you'd like to spend.A cheaper solution would be to run multiple KVM switches (3 single-monitor switches, 1 single- and 1 dual-, or 2 dual- monitor switches). The problem there would be that even if you switch one of them with the keyboard sequence, you're still going to have to switch at least one of them manually as well. If you can find a keyboard splitter, then that might work; however, I haven't seen one of those in over a decade, and they were all in the pre-usb days :-(, so that's pretty unlikely. There is one other solution: at my previous office, there were a few techs who had 3 (or in once case 5) monitors and had switches for them which allowed the user to switch back and forth between multiple computers. The problem is that they were custom made for an extremely large (very large budget) company which didn't care about the cost. IIRC the cost for each switch (which looked more like a mid-tower PC) was in thousands.
Question: Anyone used this with a laptop using a docking station? the gcs 1004 would not recognize my older lenovo as being on and in the loop through the dock
Answer: I had problems using it with my Lenovo laptop with docking station. I turned out to be problems with the usb connection. My docking station has a number of USB ports so I tried them all until I found one that worked and after a couple of years I still can only use that one USB port. Not sure why it worked that way but it works. Good luck!
Question: Does this switch work with window
Answer: Yes, it does not need any drivers installed and is working on a system that was upgraded from 8.1 to 10 for me on this model and separately on a 4 port model.
Question: Does this KVM support hotkey switching
Answer: Yes. I don't have the full list of key commands in front of me but there is a pretty robust set of hotkeys that can switch the K/M, video, audio or all at the same time. See my review for details.

Tripp Lite

Based on 66 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The desktop B004-DPUA4-K 4-Port DisplayPort KVM Switch lets you access, control, boot and reboot four DisplayPort computers using one DisplayPort monitor, USB keyboard and USB mouse. Switching among DisplayPort computers is quick and simple using keyboard hotkeys or buttons on the unit.

You can also plug microphones and speakers into the 3.5 mm mini-stereo jacks, and the two-port USB 3.0 SuperSpeed hub allows you to connect peripherals, such as a webcam, flash drive, printer or scanner, and share them among computers. Because the audio and USB 3.0 hub ports can be accessed independently, you can, for instance, use a printer connected to the hub to print data from one computer while also listening to music from another computer.

All necessary cables are included. The B004-DPUA4-K supports digital video resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 (including 1080p), 2-channel stereo audio and data transfer rates up to 5 Gbps. The built-in DDC emulator sends the console monitor’s EDID information to all connected computers to ensure top video quality and prevent any delay or change in video resolution when switching computers.

The B004-DPUA4-K is easy to set up with no software to install and supports Windows, Mac, Linux and Sun. The USB 3.0 hub is backward-compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this compatible with Gaming Keyboards
Answer: When I first got this, it didn't work with my Ducky One keyboards (sad), but I found firmware 112 from here https://www.iogear.com/support/dm/driver/GCS62DP (The iogear is internally identical to the Tripp Lite), and now my Ducky works! Release notes from firmware 112 is "Improve keyboard support"
Question: Can the b004-dp2ua2-k support two daisy-chained 1920x1200 monitors
Answer: I can not say for sure about the 2 port, I own the Tripp Lite 4 port KVM and it does support 2 standard LCD HD 1920 x 1080 or 1 UHD 2560 x 1080 Monitor, I would try it I am sure dimes to dollars it will.....any other questions or issues feel free to ask\Rob
Question: does it keep monitor connections alive (EDID passthrough)? the product descr says yes, but at least 1 review says no
Answer: This might be an issue where Amazon's grouping of answers for different products is somewhat distracting. From reading the documentation (and TrippLite FAQ), I would agree with the answers for the B004-DP2UA2-K. However, for the B004-DPUA4-K (and B004-DPUA2-K), I believe that switching computers will not cause the "disconnected " issue one see's with the B004-DP2UA2-K, per the following from TrippLite: "The B004-DPUA4-K supports digital video resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 (including 1080p), 2-channel stereo audio and data transfer rates up to 5 Gbps. The built-in DDC emulator sends the console monitor’s EDID information to all connected computers to ensure top video quality and prevent any delay or change in video resolution when switching computers." This emulator (i.e. DCC), does not appear to be present on the B004-DP2UA2-K.Update 9Mar17: Okay, what I wrote above was what I was hoping for -- but have since received the 4-port unit (B004-DPUA4-K), I have not gotten it to convince the "un-focused" computers to still believe they are still connected to a monitor. I am working through support now, but as of right now, when I switch away from a computer, the kvm effectively "disconnects" that computer from the display (emulated or otherwise), and for a Macintosh, puts it to sleep.
Question: Has anyone had success running this at 3440x1440 past 60Hz
Answer: Yes, on my PC I get 3440x1440 120Hz with G-SYNC, and on my Mac I get 3440x1440 100Hz. I just bought this to switch between a PC and a 4-year-old MacBook Pro hooked up to an Acer X34P.

User questions & answers

Question: how does the usb work between computers? im confused
Answer: On each computer you connect an HDMI, USB, sound out, and mic. These are the connectors on the end of the long cables. The switch box has an HDMI for your monitor, Sound connectors for speakers and mic, and 2 USB connectors for Mouse and keyboard. If you have a wireless keyboard mouse combo you only need one of the USB ports on the switch box. The USB doesn't work between the computers, it connects the keyboard/mouse to the computer you are using.
Question: is this usb 2.0 or
Answer: 3.0
Question: Will this work with an hdmi to display port converter? Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0144NS4Z6/ref=psdc_3015395011_t1_B01BXMOREI
Answer: It should, yes. I've been using an HDMI to ThunderBolt port converter to connect my MacBook Pro for years, and it's never had any problems.
Question: Does this switch support a 2560x1440/144Hz G-sync monitor
Answer: I currently have no problem with my #1 machine, but occasionally my #2 machine will come up in the next resolution down. It can be fixed on screen easily enough, but my last switch (same make & model) experienced the same pattern, but it grew more frequent over time until both machines were loading up in the lower resolution. Eventually I solved the problem by installing standalone graphics cards in both machines, but the switch eventually failed after about 3 years. I bought the same one because I saw nothing (switches) out there that was intended to support the 2560x1440 resolution as being native.

User questions & answers

Question: For Win 7, is an Admin password required for setup
Answer: There is setup required if u want to use the hotkey software which isnt required
Question: I have two desktop computers which each have their own monitor. Will this KVM work with a single keyboard and mouse and no monitor connection
Answer: Yes, the KVM draws power from the USB ports, so a monitor connection is not needed. Especially when you have multiple monitors for each computer, using a KVM to switch monitors is not practical. Using one set of keyboard and mouse for multiple computers is.
Question: Can you switch devices using keyboard only
Answer: There is the ability, without software, to switch to the next port in line using the numlock key or the scroll lock key. This only moves to the next port in line eg, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-1. If you install the software you can switch to any port with a hoy key, but it has to be installed on all the computers you want to use this feature.
Question: What is the difference between the 209, 207 and 205, all sold on Amazon
Answer: The 209 has audio cables----the 207 does not and the 205 is for PS2 mouse and keyboard plugs.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have a physical switch for switching between computers
Answer: no it doesn't - the only way is with the keyboard - the other problem is that it has no power switch since it is powered over the usb ports - when the thing hangs up the only way to recover is to disconnect the usb ports - since two of the ports are hardwired to the cables those ports have to be disconnected at the computer end - except for these inconveniences I would still recommend this switch
Question: can you mix pc and apple products
Answer: I haven't had the need to mix the two but the following may be helpful. The box the IOGEAR 4-Port USB KVM switch came in states it is compatible with MAC X v10.8.6 or later. Logically, as long as the video output on the Mac is compatible with the PC output ( similar standard) there is no reason it should not work. The mouse and keyboard are USB so I would think they are standard and should not be a problem.
Question: Will it work without monitor plugged in, I just need mouse, keyboard and sound switch - without monitor
Answer: Yes it will. I unplugged my monitor cable from the unit and accessed a unit by remote control. I am using the keyboard and mouse to write this while viewing on another computer. the IOGEAR does not have any vidio connection. What I have found is this unit is fussy about wireless mice. I have used a few that did not work and several that did. Hewlett Packard all seem to work. Logitech - some work. I am currently using a M305. If you change mice and have problems. Power everything down. The indicator light on the IOGEAR should go out effectively rebooting it. (The IOGEAR uses power from any USB connection.) Make sure the sender is plugged in and the mouse is turned on before starting the systems back up.I have been using this for several years with 4 systems connected. I have had very few problems with it. I like it better than any other I have tried.
Question: I see it works with Solaris and I saw a reviewer had no trouble with Ubuntu. What about other versions of Linux, particularly Debian and Fedora
Answer: A lot is going to depend on your kernel version (regardless of what distro you're running), and the actual hardware you're using (video card, monitor, etc). Having said that, I'm currently using this KVM to switch between a desktop running Fedora 18 and a laptop/docking station that's running Fedora 19 and haven't run into any showstoppers yet. Had some issues with screen resolution when I tried to replace the OOTB Nvidia video drivers with the proprietary versions, and there are some keyboard shortcuts in the documentation that I found to be glaringly absent (see my review of the product for details), but none of the issues were big enough that I couldn't use the product.HTH

Question: Is the manual for this product available in downloadable form somewhere, e.g. pdf? cannot locate manufacturer website...just amazon storefront
Answer: The KVM switch comes with the manual. If you need PDF format of manual, email us ([email protected]).
Question: does the power adapter support 220 volt? or it's only 110 volt
Answer: This 4 port displayport KVM comes with a DC 5V 2A power adapter, you can plug it into AC110-220V socket for power supply. Email us ([email protected]) for more assist.
Question: Kvm connectors on unit have 15 pins like vga connectors, most of which are assigned to vga signals. how is usb/audio incorporated
Answer: USB and audio have separate plugs on the cable ends that plug into PCs. The other end of cables have only VGA connector that plugs into unit so it must use a couple unused wires in the cable. In any case, it works fine. I actually have a small 4 input USB hub to share the extra USB input so I can use a USB mike, camera, and scanner that all PCs can now use. After about 3 months use, I haven't had any problems with any USB input including mouse and keyboard or with audio.
Question: Does this switch support 1440p at 144Hz
Answer: This 2 port displayport cable KVM switch is DP1.2 60Hz version, it don't support DP 1.4. It doesn't compatible DP1.4 version, 100Hz, 120Hz, 144Hz devices. If you buy it for 1440p@144Hz monitor, we suggest you adjust resolution as 2560*1440@60Hz. Email us ([email protected]) for more assist.

User questions & answers

Question: I have two laptops with two docking stations and four monitors between them. Will this work for that type of setup
Answer: Maybe. This has 1 monitor (VGA) connection. So it's designed to switch 2 computers between a single keyboard video and mouse (KVM). I think it will work to switch just the keyboard and mouse, so in that respect yes. But honestly I think you should look for that does just that, only mouse and keyboard. And if this is the closest thing to that, then maybe this is your best option.
Question: Anyone tried this unit with a Logitech M310 wireless keyboard and mouse combo
Answer: I have an Anker keyboard/mouse combo and works fine, havent tried it with another combo
Question: Does the hdmi version work with a wireless keyboard and mouse and hot key switching
Answer: It's hit or miss. I tried 3 different sets of wireless keyboards and mice, and only had intermittent problems. Some people here have claimed it worked for them. Not me.
Question: Will the hdmi be able to support a 2560x1080 resolution at 60hz, or should i go for displayport
Answer: my monitor is only 1920x1080 and it works fine on HDMI. the published limit is 1920x1200. it is also a touch monitor which also works fine. I also use a Logitech wireless KB and mouse.
