Answer:	Yes it will run on Windows 8.1 just fine. Just go to Asus's web page and download the latest set of software and drivers for Windows 8 64 bit and your set. At times I have been forced to re-install the application software and drivers for some strange reason. I have been a Computer Tech since back in 1995 and still can't figure out why this happens? It's probably just a bug within Win 8.1's startup sequence. It's not a problem that bothers me so much that I would switch sound cards. This is by far the best gaming and overall decent sounding sound card for the money available.I paid $40 including shipping and have had to return the first card as defective. It was the second card has had zero internal noise issues that the first card was having issues with. It even sounds great when used in analog with a cheap headphone amp like the Schiit's mangi that costs $109 on Amazon including shipping. You get a truly great sound with a Signal To Noise Ratio that exceeds 100 DB. If gaming is your thing a good pair of headphones along with a dedicated high output headphone amp really makes a huge difference. Schiit's also sells a USB DAC called modi for $109 here on Amazon that would eliminate the need for a sound card all together.For audio this is great. But if you still are looking for a good amount of gaming sound effects this Asus card plugged into a Schiits Mangi headphone amp will give you all you can possibly need. I'm not a huge fan of gaming thru speakers. I prefer using good headphones that allow you to hear everything! The Sennhiser 598's rated at 50 OHMs will give you the detailed sound for gaming and exceptional sound for home audio as well.They cost around $220 but are the best sub $400 headphones I have ever heard in my life and I tested about 6 different pairs before deciding on them including the much more expensive Sennhiser 600's. I choose the 598's due tot he lower impedance and since they sounded so close to the 600's that it did not justify the extra cost!This is the best sound card for the money as well. Sound Blaster cards are over rated and have horrible driver support. They are living off of there name at this point and I'll never buy a Sound Blaster card again! This Asus card uses the latest O2 chipset and performs very near the same as the $200 high end Asus and others at that price range. It lacks the shielding that some of the more expensive cards have. However, if your careful where you place the card (As high up near the GPU video card as possible) you will minimize any internal noise from the hard drives in your system. I use a Cool Master full tower that really helps eliminate internal noise as well!

Answer:	Yes, I have it run to a Yamaha 5.1 receiver and unlike the other user "ML", it does allow full surround from multi-channel sources. Unfortunately, EQ, channel levels, environment effects and more seem only available when using the "Speakers" output.

Question:	So what's the difference with the sound blaster recon3d? i see the same "sound core3d" chip
Answer:	I have the game one headset and it sounds great. I wish the headphone ohm setting had a 50 ohm selection, but I can't go over half volume in Windows at the 32ohm setting so it pushes plenty of power. I had the sound blaster zx before this and this card sounds better.
Question:	What is that circular window, is it some sort of interference shield
Answer:	i don't know, do you listen to 24bit audio, like blu rays and youtube and high-res music from hdtracks, or 32bit audio? If 24bit, you might be best off then with the ZxR, on the other hand I'd say the AE-5 is a safer bet, because of the surely nicer headphone amp inside can be properly used with many more headphones..., but then again your using speakers and might have an external headphone amp.., Hard to say.
Question:	Does this sound card have Dolby Digital Live
Answer:	Outputting digital audio via S/PDIF means that its quality becomes dependent of the DAC built into your external amplifier or mixamp, rather than the output stages of the Sound Blasterx AE-5 as, optical signals are in PCM stereo format only. Also, the Sound BlasterX AE-5 does not have Dolby and DTS encoding for optical out.
Question:	Triple Question: Worth it for headphone user? Is card's mic detachable/able to be deactivated? Will it process mic audio from MoBo usb
Answer:	For me, the led on the card DOES NOT work without the molex. As I have no interest in attaching the LED strip or using molex, I don't know if it's by design or by fault.

Answer:	You can use Two M.2s on this motherboard. The back on can only be a PCI-E. Although if you use a PCI-E M.2 it takes up the first sata plug. Found this out the hard way. Tried to install a SATA M.2 on the back and it was not recognized.

Answer:	If you plan to use an i7 10700k I recommend that you go for the Z490 chipset as it comes prepared to overclock the b460 chipset is for processors that are not of the (K) series

Answer:	the b460 chipset only supports the tenth generation of intel, if you plan to use a ninth generation processor I recommend that you use the chipset (z390, b365 and b360)

Answer:	Sound Blaster Z has better Signal-to-Noise Ratio at 116db and better Bit-depth/sampling frequency for playback.

Answer:	I think it's just a window for the red LED to make it look cool. But that's about the only cool thing about this sound card. I hear NO difference in sound quality from my old XFi Titanium. And there is definitely LESS software included with this adapter. I'd never have bought it if I'd known these things. This is a marketing gimmick directed at gamers. Don't waste your money.
Question:	Does this work with 2.1 setup with a subwoofer
Answer:	Yes, it does. With DTS connect or Dolby Live enabled, the Windows 10 volume control and keyboard media keys no longer work. There's a program called Volume2 that lets you remap the "What U Hear" volume control to the Windows system volume. Boom, problem solved.
Question:	Is this card powered by the pcie slot or does it require a direct connection to the power supply
Answer:	I have not been able to get it to work with inputs from MoBo plugs, I’m no genius though so I dunno if that is possible and I just haven’t been able to figure it out? It definitely is possible to not use mic but I find the mic works fine if close enough to have a conversation... I have my keyboard plugged into two USB ports in the back of the Computer wired directly into the MoBo, and my green headphone jack in the sound card’s headphone jack and pink mic jack in the sound card’s mic jack. I then plug in the beam forming mic to the keyboard’s mic jack and place it on the upper left corner of the keyboard. It is then close enough to function. I have my TV plugged into my computer as my primary display and sit on the couch some distance away. If the beam forming mic is physically on the computer‘s tower, then I find my interlocutor cannot hear me sufficiently, however, when located on the table or keyboard it is fine. The sound output is handled through optical audio cord from sound card to AVR. I find, no matter the output device, 5.2 HQ surround sound, 2.1 PC speakers or headphones, the difference in sound is perceptible, as in, it makes everything sound better. This is because the sound card is processing the sound before it reaches the output device, making the output clearer, richer, more detailed and deeper. Considering the price, I highly recommend it, I don’t see how I can hear it and other’s don’t but I was raised by an audiophile to listen for these differences so maybe I do hear what other’s don’t as my ear has been trained over decades?

Answer:	From the FAQ on Audioengine's site:Q: The D1 is connected to the optical output of my TV but I'm not getting any sound. What can I do?A: In your TV menu verify that "PCM STEREO" is selected and "DOLBY DIGITAL" is off.So it presumably only supports PCM over S/PDIF.

Answer:	Yes Zack. The analog RCA's are disconnected if headphones are plugged into the D1. I wish it was a bit more flexible but that's the way it is with this unit.

Answer:	I disagree with KM. Haven't tried this AudioEngine DAC, but the NUforce Mac-specific DAC I own makes a noticeable difference, mostly in the clarity of the highs. It makes the Mac's built-in DAC sound shrill. On lower-end headphones it might not be detectable. And, of course, everyone's hearing is different. I can listen to Google Play streaming much longer on my Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones through an external DAC than without one.

Answer:	This does NOT have traditional phantom power, which is normally 48v for condenser microphones. Their website says “18v phantom power,” and I don't know of any condenser mic that uses 18v.

Answer:	Yes you can. Their is a "Line In" (1/4" jack) to accomplish this connection. You also (as on many audio device) will need to select "LINE" on the Input Channel (#1) which allows the device to format to the instrument Input Level. I have used this to record into my Computer Audio Software.

Answer:	I believe that even if a laptop/PC did have a built-in sound card, this wouldn't use it since sound cards don't accept USB input. Answer:	No it will not work, because you only can dedicate one USB connection as your default playback device. But you can do what you want with only one unit by using a microphone splitter to attach to the (RED) hole and connect the other end to the two microphones. You can use a splitter like " RLCAB095 - Stereo Audio Input Splitter". Google it.
