12 best sony memory cards
Sony memory cards are storage devices designed for various electronic devices, including digital cameras, camcorders, and other portable devices. These memory cards are available in different formats, but CompactFlash (CF) cards are not typically associated with Sony; instead, Sony primarily uses Memory Stick and later, SD (Secure Digital) cards. Here's an overview of Sony's memory card offerings:
Memory Stick: Sony introduced the Memory Stick format in the late 1990s. These memory cards were proprietary to Sony and were initially used in Sony's own digital cameras, camcorders, and PlayStation Portable (PSP) gaming console. Memory Stick cards came in various capacities and generations, including Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo, and Memory Stick Micro (M2).
SD and microSD Cards: In addition to Memory Stick, Sony started offering SD and microSD memory cards. These cards are more widely compatible with a range of devices, including digital cameras, camcorders, smartphones, and laptops. Sony SD cards typically have good read/write speeds and can be used for high-definition video recording and fast data transfer.
XQD and CFexpress Cards: Sony has also been involved in the development of professional-grade memory cards for high-end cameras and camcorders. Sony co-developed the XQD format and later introduced the CFexpress Type A cards, both of which offer fast data transfer speeds and are suitable for high-resolution video and photography.
Storage Capacities: Sony memory cards come in various storage capacities, ranging from a few gigabytes to multiple terabytes for some of the more recent high-capacity cards.
Durability and Reliability: Sony memory cards are known for their durability and reliability, making them suitable for use in demanding environments, including extreme temperatures and rugged conditions.
File Recovery and Backup Software: Sony often includes file recovery and backup software with its memory cards to help users recover lost or accidentally deleted data.
Compatibility: Sony memory cards are designed to work seamlessly with Sony devices, but they are also compatible with other brands of electronic devices that support the respective card format (e.g., SD or microSD).
Please note that Sony may have updated its product offerings and technology in 2023. It's essential to check the official Sony website or consult current product information for the most up-to-date details on Sony memory cards and their compatibility with specific devices.

User questions & answers
Question: | will this work with Sony A |
Answer: | Yes, all UHS-II cards are backward compatible. |
Question: | Does this work with sony sdr-ax |
Answer: | Yes. backward compatible |
Question: | does this card works excellent with sony fdrax53/b 4k hd video recording camcorder (black) when recording 4k movies and is this the best sony card |
Answer: | This is by far the fastest UHS-II card I have tested. It does record 4K fine, and should work in any SONY camera. I use it in a Panasonic GH5 with only one problem - Panasonic checks to make sure it is flagged V90 in the ID bits. Even though it is faster than most V90 cards, it lacks that ID bit and is thus rejected by the back-up-write mode that records 2 copies on 2 separate SD cards at the same time. Otherwise, it records 4K just fine. |
Question: | How do these work in the new Sony a7iii or a7Riii |
Answer: | These work perfectly. Just format the card in camera |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will the card fir into a compact flash card slot on a Mac |
Answer: | No, the card is much thicker than the CF card and will not fit. The contact points are different as well, they are totally different. |
Question: | Does this work for the Panasonic GH |
Answer: | The GH5 uses SD cards or micro SD cards, with an adapter. XQD cards are physically larger and will not fit into the GH5. I recommend using the fastest SD card (write speed) you can find if you plan on taking advantage of all that the GH5 is capable of. |
Question: | Is it compatible with camera Sony NEX-3N |
Answer: | A quick search shows that your camera uses SD cards... XQD are different and not interchangeable.. |
Question: | Does anyone have an issue with their memory cards showing 15% less capacity than advertised? i have the 120gb and it only shows 101gb available |
Answer: | Yes, this is consistently an issue with storage products. My 120 GB Sony XQD card only shows 101 GB, so what you're seeing is "normal". Matthew M's answer to this question is helpful: Computers calculate storage based on binary numbers (so a GB is 1,073,741,824 bytes) instead of decimal (where a GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes). But that only partially covers the loss here! If that were true, my 120 GB Sony XQD card would have over 111 "binary" GB. But as I said, it only shows 101 "binary" GB. Or said another way, it should show the byte count as 120,000,000,000, but it only shows 108,839,043,072. And as far as I'm concerned, that's unacceptable. If I get a 120 GB card, it should have 120,000,000,000 bytes. As for a "defense" of why this may be the case and Sony isn't "lying" (just being deceptive): My understanding is the most flash devices have "hidden" space for lost/corrupted flash cells. Over time, some of the the individual memory blocks go bad, so flash based devices always have some "hidden" cells that only get used when other cells go bad. Traditionally, this has not been counted as part of the quoted size of the device. So a 120 GB device may actually have 124 GB of memory cells, 4 GB of which are "hidden" reserves for anticipated bad cells. Perhaps that is now changing and Sony is quoting those "hidden" cells as part of the quoted space. (after all, if we go back far enough in time, it used to be storage capacity was stated in "binary" megabytes (it was that long ago) and we've all adjusted to the "decimal" way). It is possible that my 120 GB card has 10 GB of "hidden" memory as used for a backup as cells go bad. That seems like an awful lot, but perhaps. Nevertheless, all of this is examples of how marketing and specifications are misleading and how they find new ways to do it over time. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long is the cable |
Answer: | Didn't work for my Toshiba drive. Needed another mm of height to clear the drive. This isn't the only enclosure with the problem either. |
Question: | Will this reader work with an iPad 4th generation 12.9. Some say the iPad won’t power the reader |
Answer: | This unit is surprisingly smoking fast. However, it does not support UASP as far as I can tell. The company puts these handy little icons prominently on the retail boxes of their enclosures that represent the products features. This unit does not have their UASP icon. Amazon has a unit from this company that does support UASP. It can be found by searching the company name and UASP. However, for the money, this unit FAR exceeded my expectations for speed, craftsmanship, and ease of use. With that said, the UASP Docking Station by Sabrent is only a few dollars more. |
