To use Hard Drive Offline Clone Function:

5. Then quickly press the CLONE Button.

7. The cloning process is complete when ALL the lights turn solid Blue (25%-100%).

8. Finally press the power switch to the OFF position and eject your drives.

Answer:	I did not attempt cloning. However, as part of a security wipe I did write several passes of zeros using disk management tools and it worked perfectly. Therefore, I think it should work for cloning as well but as with most things "computer", no guarantees...

Answer:	FYI, if you want to initiate to offline clone, then it will clone the whole content, OS and spare space included, of source drive to target drive once conducted successfully. It is not available for choosing just some files to be cloned. Actually, you may paste the part files from one drive to another via computer if needed. Hope this helps.

Answer:	I'm fairly sure there IS a maximum size limit, but I haven't found it, and I am running 10TB drives in mine without any problem at all. This is a good, reliable unit and it is as fast as advertised.

Answer:	Don't cover it with anything. Especially cardboard! The drives will get way too hot. If you find an multiple drive dock that's enclosed make sure it has a fan.

Question:	Two questions!! if my source is a 1tb drive but only contains about 350gb, can i do a standalone copy to a 500gb ssd? also, how fast is cloning
Answer:	Unfortunately no you cannot. The destination drive has to be bigger. I tried to clone a 500gb ssd to another 500gb ssd with only 200gb of data, and it did not work, tried it 3 times with no luck. I upgraded my destination drive to a 512gb ssd and it worked. It’s a slow process also- don’t know the speed but it took a solid 45 minutes to clone for a 512gb Drive, so it might take longer for a 1tb Drive. Hope this helps. Jamil.

Answer:	it clones everything on the drive, even the OS if it is installed. this isn't a copy, but a complete clone of everything.

Answer:	It's so easy, but make sure you don't get your drives mixed up! I put some labels on mine. The front slot I marked as Target and the rear slot I marked as Source. Put your old drive (Source) in the rear slot, and put your new drive in the front slot (Target). This does not require you to hook up to a P.C. Turn the unit on and wait for the front circle turn blue for both the Source and Target, push and hold the circle until it starts to flash and then let go and quickly push it again. You should now have a blue flashing indicator on the circle showing the cloning progress. When it's done make sure that you turn off the power before removing the drives.
Question:	Can you access data on both drives at the same time? ie. can I plug in two hard drives and manage both of them from my computer at the same time
Answer:	The dock's external power supply is too weak to power two high power drives being accessed at the same time. That's why the the unit keeps resetting. A more powerful power supply is needed to do this, but the manufacturer should have included this.Fortunately, a good 4 or 5 amp, 12 volt power supply can be purchased for around $10 to $15.

Cloning Operating Instructions

1. Before cloning, make sure that the clone disk (disk 2) has been backed up. The total capacity of the clone disk (disk 2) is greater than or equal to the original disk (disk 1).

2. Plug in the power supply, make sure the USB cable is unplugged and not connected to the USB interface of the PC.

3. Check that the indicators (blue) for both disk 1 and disk 2 are on.

4. Wait for 30 to 60 seconds, then press the clone switch for 3 to 5 seconds. When all four green lights are on, clone will begin. The corresponding copy percentage of 25%-50%-75%-100% flashes in turn. If the green lights are not on, do not turn off the power. Wait for a while and you can restart the operation again. Because it takes a little bit of time for the product's software to get ready.

5. When the clone is completed, the 4 LED lights will always be on (the lights are off in the previous software version!).

6. Clone disk capacity will be greater than the original data disk, the extra disk space needs to go to the disk manager reformat after the cloning, please refer to the previous disk format for specific operations.

7.After cloning, clone disk will enter the offline mode and then the disk won't be identified when the PC is connected with USB cable. Therefore, should select online mode manually: right-click (computer/my computer/this computer) to select management, then select disk management in the pop up dialog box, and you will see a disk in the offline state, then right-click it to choose the online mode.

Question:	I have a 1TB internal hard drive which I want to convert to external for backup storage.Is this a viable solution
Answer:	Depends on the HDD or SSD you are using and how you intend to use it. This drive is really made for fast-access to a variety of different drives for shorter periods. The interface is high-speed, but the case does NOT seal out dust, it does not give any sort of shock/impact damage protection, and not having any sort of cooling, it can get very hot with high speed HDDs. I have a 10k RPM WD Raptor from quite a few years back that I wanted to pull music off of. Over about an hour of usage, it got quite hot. While perfectly fine for intermittent usage, this is not ideal for frequent or prolonged usage given heat is a major catalyst of premature hard drive failure. So with higher RPM HDDs, this is not as good a choice for constant usage as a dedicated enclosure with some shock protection and a cooling fan/heat sinks. With a SSD, this is obviously not of concern. So if your 1tb is a HDD and you want to have it running constantly for backups, an external with a fan and shock protection would be a better match, IMO. Depending on the age of your drive though, it may be worth considering buying a new drive outright given you can get enterprise grade drives like the WD RE4's in that size for under $70 and SSDs have even gotten very affordable. While predicting when a specific drive fails is very difficult to do, standard consumer-grade HDDs tend to have failure rates increase at the 3-4 year mark and really spike at the 4-5 year mark (Google's study on this is the most detailed I know of to date.) An enterprise drive would give you a more reliable backup system with a longer reliable service life, and usually read/write speeds that are 2-3 times faster than standard internal HDDs (of which you would need to use USB3 or ThunderBolt to take full advantage of.)Sorry for the long response.

Offline Clone

Question:	Is this device able to make a bit-by-bit (DD) forensic copy of a hard drive
Answer:	I don't think so. I operates more like Ghost or Clonezilla. It will copy from the source disc to any disc that is the same size or larger and doesn't care about geometry. The discs cloned by it have their sizes adjusted to fill any empty space on the target disc. That behavior is inconsistent w/ forensic imaging like you get w/ OSFmount and similar.

Answer:	This system can be used for both cloning and as extra storage. It's not designed to transfer data from SATA drive directly to a USB device without a computer involved. Some drive duplicators, like those made by Tableau and Supersonix, can do that but it gets expensive.

Answer:	If you hot swap one of the drives (specifically, physically remove one after "safely ejecting it"), the other will briefly disconnect. So, no, you shouldn't hot swap drives with this.

Answer:	If you clone it, it will not. You go to disk management - click on the hard drive and you will see there are 2 partitions in there. One with the data on it and one without. Right click on the partition with data, then choose Extend this partition. Choose the max size and it will combine the free space and become 1 volume (partition)
