Question:	I have a 1TB internal hard drive which I want to convert to external for backup storage.Is this a viable solution
Answer:	Depends on the HDD or SSD you are using and how you intend to use it. This drive is really made for fast-access to a variety of different drives for shorter periods. The interface is high-speed, but the case does NOT seal out dust, it does not give any sort of shock/impact damage protection, and not having any sort of cooling, it can get very hot with high speed HDDs. I have a 10k RPM WD Raptor from quite a few years back that I wanted to pull music off of. Over about an hour of usage, it got quite hot. While perfectly fine for intermittent usage, this is not ideal for frequent or prolonged usage given heat is a major catalyst of premature hard drive failure. So with higher RPM HDDs, this is not as good a choice for constant usage as a dedicated enclosure with some shock protection and a cooling fan/heat sinks. With a SSD, this is obviously not of concern. So if your 1tb is a HDD and you want to have it running constantly for backups, an external with a fan and shock protection would be a better match, IMO. Depending on the age of your drive though, it may be worth considering buying a new drive outright given you can get enterprise grade drives like the WD RE4's in that size for under $70 and SSDs have even gotten very affordable. While predicting when a specific drive fails is very difficult to do, standard consumer-grade HDDs tend to have failure rates increase at the 3-4 year mark and really spike at the 4-5 year mark (Google's study on this is the most detailed I know of to date.) An enterprise drive would give you a more reliable backup system with a longer reliable service life, and usually read/write speeds that are 2-3 times faster than standard internal HDDs (of which you would need to use USB3 or ThunderBolt to take full advantage of.)Sorry for the long response.

Answer:	The previous six I bought didn't have a power port. The last two I bought late in 12/2020 (delivered 1/2/2021) does have the power port and is a darker gray. These are either an earlier model that were dredged up from somewhere or Cable Matters has returned to including the power port (although no power cable was included). Whatever the reason for the power port being on the last two I bought, they still work fine and support TRIM.

Answer:	The drive in the enclosure will only spin when data is being accessed. So turning the computer off definitely stops the enclosure drive from spinning. The enclosure also has a on/off power button.
Question:	is there a heating problem or how is the heat dissipated
Answer:	I had a heat problem, used it for 5 months. The drive had no files on it so shouldn't have run hot. I took the drive out, let it cool off, put it back in and there was no power to the enclosure. I put in two other working drives, still no power to it. I put the drive in another enclosure and it was not hot, copied 350GB of files to it and it is still not hot. Apparently the enclosure malfunctioned.

Question:	How well does the fan do to keep the drives cool
Answer:	This must be one of those genetically influenced things. I think the stuff smells fine - my ex husband used to say he would rather something smell like cat pee than smell like this product. We obviously weren’t experiencing the same odor....I wonder how many people percentage wise experience this products smell as “awful” and “pungent...”
Question:	What do i need to run this from my desktop pc
Answer:	I prefer the cat odor off. The smell is better and stronger and lasts longer. I have seven cats and have had to use twice as much kennel odor off for the same result.
Question:	Will this dock support a raid if we have a onboard raid controller? What is the dock GB/drive limitations
Answer:	I don't think I've tried Odor X-It, so can't compare, but I do not like the smell of the Thornell, so haven't used it much. Even before opening the sealed bottle of Thornell, I could smell it and it's quite objectionable. Maybe it's not a bad smell to others, but it is to me. I think products made for this purpose should have no scent at all. When you buy a product to eliminate an odor, that's what you want to do, not replace it with something else.
Question:	Hdd "power" lights: (a) always on= 'bay' has power even if no disks exist; (b) or each disk "power" light turns off when no disk exists per bay slot
Answer:	For concrete, it is best to make a paste of baking soda and this product as the liquid to add to the baking to create the thick paste. Apply paste over the soiled area in concrete, cover with a bit of saran wrap, tape the satan wrap down. Allow this to dry until the paste cracks/is dry. You might have to do this one/two more times but it will draw the scent/urine out of the concrete. As for to drywall, I don't know how you can get this to stick to the drywall. This is a superior product.

Answer:	It comes with 2 Y connectors. The unit has 4 power connectors, but with the Y connectors, you only need 2 free power connectors for power supply.
Question:	The pictures show both l4 molex & sata power connectors on the device, plus what appear to be 4 sata-to-molex adaptors. can one use either type
Answer:	No, the HSB43SATSASB requires SATA power for the drives. The SP4 Molex connectors are for the HDD LEDs. Matt, StarTech.com Support

Answer:	The fans are a little over 1.5 inches. It looks like they are removable, although I didn't try. The screens are visible to be removed.
