Answer:	Depends on the HDD or SSD you are using and how you intend to use it. This drive is really made for fast-access to a variety of different drives for shorter periods. The interface is high-speed, but the case does NOT seal out dust, it does not give any sort of shock/impact damage protection, and not having any sort of cooling, it can get very hot with high speed HDDs. I have a 10k RPM WD Raptor from quite a few years back that I wanted to pull music off of. Over about an hour of usage, it got quite hot. While perfectly fine for intermittent usage, this is not ideal for frequent or prolonged usage given heat is a major catalyst of premature hard drive failure. So with higher RPM HDDs, this is not as good a choice for constant usage as a dedicated enclosure with some shock protection and a cooling fan/heat sinks. With a SSD, this is obviously not of concern. So if your 1tb is a HDD and you want to have it running constantly for backups, an external with a fan and shock protection would be a better match, IMO. Depending on the age of your drive though, it may be worth considering buying a new drive outright given you can get enterprise grade drives like the WD RE4's in that size for under $70 and SSDs have even gotten very affordable. While predicting when a specific drive fails is very difficult to do, standard consumer-grade HDDs tend to have failure rates increase at the 3-4 year mark and really spike at the 4-5 year mark (Google's study on this is the most detailed I know of to date.) An enterprise drive would give you a more reliable backup system with a longer reliable service life, and usually read/write speeds that are 2-3 times faster than standard internal HDDs (of which you would need to use USB3 or ThunderBolt to take full advantage of.)Sorry for the long response.

Answer:	The drive in the enclosure will only spin when data is being accessed. So turning the computer off definitely stops the enclosure drive from spinning. The enclosure also has a on/off power button.
Question:	is there a heating problem or how is the heat dissipated
Answer:	I had a heat problem, used it for 5 months. The drive had no files on it so shouldn't have run hot. I took the drive out, let it cool off, put it back in and there was no power to the enclosure. I put in two other working drives, still no power to it. I put the drive in another enclosure and it was not hot, copied 350GB of files to it and it is still not hot. Apparently the enclosure malfunctioned.

On Mac or Windows, the operating system can provide some basic RAID capability. Q: Why can't my SSD with this M.2 enclosure be written in MAC OS? But it can be read and written normally under Windows OS.

A: Please confirm the format of your M.2 SSD. And MAC OS needs to install NTFS reading software to read and write NTFS format M.2 SSD. You can ask APPLE for help.

Q: Why can't the M.2 enclosure be recognized after my computer is connected?

A: In the first case, Please open the SSD enclosure and remove the SSD. Then reinstall the SSD on the M.2 interface (note that the position needs to be aligned).

In the second case, your SSD is brand new and unused, and you need to format it according to the instructions before the computer can recognize it.

In the third case, if you use MAC OS, MAC OS needs to install NTFS reading software to read and write NTFS format M.2 SSD. You can ask APPLE for help.

It is recommended that the SSD use exFAT format, which is compatible with Windows and Mac OS systems.

Q: Is there a sleep setting for this M.2 enclosure? Will sleep cause data transmission interruption?

A: The M.2 enclosure will automatically sleep after 3 minutes of computer inactivity. If your computer has been reading it (such as file transfer and computer anti-virus software), it will not automatically sleep.

Q: Does this M.2 enclosure need to use a thermal pad?

Answer:	The price options are for different products; built to hold larger vs. smaller capacity drives. Understand what you want/need and then order the product that meets your need. I have the smallest capacity drive and it works great for what I wanted.

Answer:	I would bet probably so. Windows-to-go is dependent on your hard drive choice, but I have seen it work when "it really shouldn't". Where most people get sidelined is not the drive choice but the bios/setup settings on the pc/laptop/etc device. The variance among them is huge.

Answer:	If the drive wasn't encrypted then it should work. If you don't see the drive, try going into disk manager and assigning a drive letter. If the drive was encrypted with Windows Bitlocker, then you'll need the recovery key (looks like a long string of random letters and numbers). See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026181/windows-10-find-my-bitlocker-recovery-key for advice on finding this. If the drive was encrypted with TrueCrypt or VeraCrypt, you'll need the encryption password. If it was encrypted and you don't have the recovery key/password, then you might as well format the drive. After all, this is the exact use case those products were made to thwart!

Question:	can this product be used as a stand alone unit
Answer:	If you mean, can it be used as an external USB enclosure, the answer is no. You need to provide power to the unit through two standard internal SATA power connectors, and connect each of the six drives using six standard internal SATA connectors. (See the back of the unit for an illustration of the required connections.) Those six SATA connectors have to be individually connected to a SATA controller on a motherboard and/or SATA controller card. So, unless you have a standalone enclosure that provides two SATA power connectors and six SATA connectors for the drives, you're not going to get a standalone unit out of this.
Question:	Does it work connecting the drives to a highpoint raid card
Answer:	This product is a pass-through. If the highpoint raid card supports SATA connections, it should work with this product.

Answer:	No drivers are needed. You would need to configure your BIOS though. For the SATA ports the unit is connected to, you would need to enable those ports to allow for hot plug/hot swap. Check your motherboard documentation on changing those settings.
Question:	Can i use a 15 pin sata to 4 sata power splitter cable. to power 2 of these units? i have a hp z4 g4 workstation
Answer:	It is not suggested to split a single 15 pin SATA power connector into four separate SATA power. Each unit should have it own SATA power connection from the power supply and they should not share the same power connector.
