I know that these work on viruses, though some products offer an extra - Micro-Fine ceramic filter for extra assurance. Charcoal and 'hybrid type' filters with other elements besides just charcoal will remove most of 'heavy metals' from the water. My recollection was that this straw system did a pretty darn good job. If you are looking for one that you are going to use extensively and this is important for you, look into the Katadyn Hiker Pro. Did 14 days with it this summer and it was superb. This straw system lives in my emergency / earthquake kit, but I've used it camping and been happy with it.

Question:	Can these fit over prescription glasses
Answer:	I have worn two pairs and both wore out in the bottoms after two years. I wore each about 100 times per year. Even shop at garden centers in them. They are incredibly comfortable, extremely waterproof and not even hot in 90+ degree summers, but do not plan on them lasting but a few years max, if you wear them regularly. I will still order another pair knowing I will only get a couple years, as I luv everything else about them but the longevity. Sure wish they lasted longer.
