14 best metra amp wiring kits
Metra amp wiring kits are essential components used in the installation and wiring of aftermarket amplifiers in vehicles. These kits are designed to simplify the process of connecting an amplifier to a car's audio system, ensuring proper power and signal distribution. Here are some key details about Metra amp wiring kits:
Purpose: Metra amp wiring kits are primarily used to install aftermarket amplifiers in vehicles. These amplifiers are often added to enhance the audio quality and power of a car's sound system, especially when upgrading speakers or subwoofers.
Components: A typical Metra amp wiring kit includes various components necessary for a clean and safe amplifier installation. These components may include power wires, ground wires, RCA cables for audio signal transmission, remote turn-on wires, fuse holders, and other connectors and accessories.
Wire Gauge: The power and ground wires in Metra amp wiring kits come in different wire gauges, such as 4 AWG (American Wire Gauge), 8 AWG, or 10 AWG. The choice of wire gauge depends on the power requirements of the amplifier and the distance between the amplifier and the car's battery.
Fuse Protection: Metra amp wiring kits typically include fuse holders and fuses to protect the amplifier and vehicle's electrical system from overcurrent. Proper fuse sizing is crucial to prevent damage in case of a short circuit.
Compatibility: These kits are designed to be compatible with various vehicle makes and models, as well as different amplifier brands and models. It's essential to select a kit that matches your specific car and amplifier requirements.
Installation Instructions: Metra amp wiring kits often come with detailed installation instructions and diagrams to guide users through the installation process. Proper installation is vital to ensure safety and optimal performance.
Signal Quality: The included RCA cables are designed to transmit audio signals from the car's head unit to the amplifier with minimal interference or noise, ensuring high-quality sound output.
Remote Turn-On Wire: The remote turn-on wire is used to trigger the amplifier to turn on and off with the car's ignition. It ensures that the amplifier only operates when the vehicle is running to prevent battery drain.
Professional Installation: While some car enthusiasts with technical expertise may install Metra amp wiring kits themselves, it's often recommended to have a professional car audio installer handle the installation to ensure safety and optimal performance.
Customization: These kits may offer options for customization, allowing users to tailor the installation to their specific audio setup and preferences.
Metra amp wiring kits are valuable accessories for anyone looking to upgrade their car audio system by adding an amplifier. They help ensure a safe and efficient power and signal distribution, resulting in improved audio quality and a more enjoyable listening experience while driving.

User questions & answers
Question: | does the fuse holder come with a fuse installed or do i need to pick one up and if so what kind |
Answer: | It comes with the fuse holder and the fuse you have to install it but that's simple to do just install it about 6inches from the battery :) |
Question: | What gage is the speaker wire |
Answer: | The speaker wire in my kit was 16 gauge, I was hoping for at least 12 gauge. |
Question: | How long is the rca patch cable |
Answer: | 20 feet gold rca cable. It's long enough for me:) |
Question: | how many watts |
Answer: | 8 Guage can only handle a few hundred watts or so RMS. You might be able to get a 5-channel system that uses 700W RMS to be properly powered BUT that's probably right around the peak for this gauge of wire. That being said, BOSS WILL NOT WORK FOR THAT. Boss uses garbage materials and typically only deliver 1/3 of what they say they are delivering. I've seen the tests with my own eyes with wiring and amps and they fall apart. Don't wire anything more than 100W RMS or so total with this kit or you might melt it. |

Product description
The Rockville RWK41 4 AWG (American Wire Gauge) amp kit has the following differences over other amp kits on the market at this price point.
1. Our RCA cables are 100 % copper. These are top of the line RCA cables
2. Better Resistance: The only thing that really matters with wires is the resistance rating. This is a measurement of conductivity and how much signal is loss per foot of wire. Since Rockville wires are made with around 3 times as much copper as any other wire at this price point, these wires had a much better resistance rating which means they will transfer more power to your amps than the other brands.
3. We do not cheat you on the thickness of the wire. These are standard American wire gauge thickness. This is another reason our conductivity is better than anything else at this price point. Other brands in the market place write 4 gauge, but cheat you on the thickness. We are honest about the thickness.
4. The Rockville amplifier installation kits feature a new soft abrasion proof insulating jacket. This rugged PVC outer jacket allows for 100% improved flexibility over standard power cables making them extremely easy to route through your vehicles interior, and it maintains exceptional resistance to grease and oil. The PVC outer jacket can with-stand an extreme temperature range of -40 to 220 degrees F.
The RCA signal transfer cables included in this kit feature blue and silver twisted pair technology in a clear outer jacket insulation skin. Not only do the blue and silver wires look cool but they also provide superior signal transfer with maximum noise suppression. They are 100% copper to provide absolute lossless perfect signal transfer to your receiver. This technology reduces interference, so your audio signal flows clean and pure at all power levels.
- 1 -17' High Grade Twisted Pair of 100% Copper RCA Cable
- 17' -4 Gauge Translucent Blue SuperFlex Power Cables
- 17' -18 Gauge Blue Remote Cable
- 17' -16 Gauge Clear Speaker Wire
- 3' -4 Gauge Clear SuperFlex Ground Wire
User questions & answers
Question: | I ordered this product and the description says 60 amp fuse but the one i received was a 80amp fuse am I the only one |
Answer: | I had 60amp in mine |
Question: | How many watts can it do |
Answer: | I have it hooked to a Rockville 2600W amp. |
Question: | What is the amount of wattage this kit can hold |
Answer: | 850 rms wattage would be the most I would run this on (although I wouldn't run 100% 850 continuous, it can handle it). Although if you have space you could trim it down to 12-13 feet and get it to 1035 rms wattage. This is about the limit of the wire. I'm not sure but I wouldn't try going above 800 continuous on the sub because if peak is higher than 800-850 the sub might clip at big drops. I have a Rockford Fosgate P2D4-12 Punch dvc 4ohm 12 inch 800 rms peak, 400 rms watt continuous I have it wired to 2 ohms so it could get 600 watts from my 1200 watt amp, but since the amp can only pull about 850 watts from the wire the sub will get up to 425 watts continuous. I don't run the sub at max but more like 75-85%. The reason why I think this is safe for my battery is I use a 2 farad capacitor that I think is at least 1 farad legitimately. |

User questions & answers
Question: | So is it 4ga or 8ga kit? Title and description are different |
Answer: | It's 8 GA with 4 GA fittings....save your money and buy elsewhere |
Question: | Which sub wiring kit do i need for a 2006 ford taurus SE |
Answer: | This doesn't have to do anything with your car or model you can use any kit you want it all depends what you are trying to do if you are adding just a sub with an amp this is fine the only difference between some of them is the gauge (wire) size (thickness) that come from your battery to your sub so the lower the number the thicker it gets |
Question: | Title says 4 ga description lists 8 ga no question just annoying |
Answer: | Thanks for pointing out that. I'll get that fixed. |
Question: | What size fuse does this come with |
Answer: | It comes with a 60 amp mini-ANL fuse. |

Question: | Will this work on my 2007 Dodge Charger |
Answer: | I don't know, I used it for 05 Magnum, probably |
Question: | will this work for my jeep grand cherokee limited 2006. iam looking forward to install an aftermarket radio |
Answer: | Yes it will work with an 06 but if u r putting in a new head unit get the harness that uses the factory amp ( if u have the boston acoustic factory) as it is stronger then the head unit. If you do this you don't want the bypass harness. |
Question: | Will this work for 05 grand Cherokee with stealring wheel conteols and factory amp ? If not can u plz help me find the rightnone |
Answer: | The 70-6504 is an amplifier bypass harness, and has nothing to do with steering wheel integration. If wanting to retain the factory amplified system along with steering controls you would need the CHTO-01, and the ASWC-1. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does this work with 2005 ford f150 plz respond |
Answer: | Yes, will work |
Question: | Will this work on a 2004 ford explorer without premium audio |
Answer: | No won't fit |
Question: | I have a 2004 F150 I just want and Aux imput so i can play music. Will this do the trick. if so can i still use the normal radio |
Answer: | The info I have says it will work on your F150. It gives power, speakers, and subwoofer. It will not give you aux input to your existing radio. You need to buy one with that input. |
Question: | Where can I find instructions on how to hook up the 2 blue wires on the rca cables |
Answer: | If you are installing in a Ford vehicle with factory amplifiers, you will need a 5 volt, power signal to turn the auxiliary amplifiers on. Most after-market head units send a switched, 12 volt signal out the blue or blue/white wire. If you Google "Metra 70-5521 Radio Wiring 5 Volt Regulator", you should find some pictures and instructions. Basically, connect the blue/white (amp/antenna power) line from your after-market stereo to the input of a 5 volt regulator (left side, I think, when looking at it, face up), connect the middle lead of the regulator (or metal mounting tab) to ground and the output (right side, I think) to the short blue/white wires on the Metra plug. This will put 5VDC on the trigger line for the factory amplifiers, when the head unit is powered on. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does it include the dimmer wire |
Answer: | The orange/white wire is listed on the Metro package as "dimmer", the orange wire (no stripe) is listed as "illumination." |
Question: | what is the smaller 4 wire harness for |
Answer: | Its for the L&R rear speaker connections in the 4 door truck. |
Question: | What gauge wire is this? I want to use the correct crimp cap size. Thank you |
Answer: | The wires on this harness are 16awg, not 18 or 22. I compared them side by side at a store carrying all sizes |
Question: | Does this harness work if you have the two extra tweeter speakers? It says it is for 4 speaker so I'm not sure if it handles the tweeters |
Answer: | I have the 6-speaker system in my 2002 Tundra AC and installed the JVC KW-R910BT HU which required the removal of the OEM amp. I wired up this adapter to the HU's harness and then plugged it directly into the truck's two connectors. ALL speakers produce sound. The tweeters are simply on the same circuit as the front door speakers. |

Question: | ford explorer |
Answer: | If you are asking if they are labeled to where they need to go then yes. I hope this helps you out and answers your question. :) |
Question: | What is the right harness to use for boss elite 765blc stereo in 2006 ford 500 limited |
