12 best vhf radio with bluetooths
VHF radios with Bluetooth functionality are specialized communication devices used in marine and vehicle applications. They combine the features of VHF (Very High Frequency) radios with Bluetooth technology, allowing for versatile communication options. Here's what you should know about them:
Marine Two Way Radios: VHF radios with Bluetooth are commonly used in the marine industry. They are often referred to as "marine two-way radios" because they enable communication between vessels and shore stations.
Bluetooth Connectivity: The inclusion of Bluetooth technology in these radios allows users to connect their smartphones, tablets, or other Bluetooth-enabled devices. This connectivity can serve multiple purposes, including making and receiving calls, streaming music, and accessing navigation apps.
Marine Electronics: These radios are considered a part of marine electronics, alongside other devices like GPS systems, fishfinders, and radar units. They play a crucial role in ensuring safety and communication on the water.
Waterproof and Rugged Design: VHF radios with Bluetooth are designed to withstand the harsh marine environment. They are typically waterproof and built to be rugged, ensuring they can operate reliably even in wet conditions.
Emergency Features: Many marine VHF radios come equipped with emergency features such as DSC (Digital Selective Calling), which allows for sending distress signals with GPS coordinates to the Coast Guard and nearby vessels in case of emergencies.
Range and Coverage: VHF radios operate on a specific frequency range and are primarily intended for short to medium-range communication on the water. The range can vary depending on factors like antenna height and atmospheric conditions.
Channel Selection: Users can select from a range of VHF channels to communicate with other vessels or shore stations. Additionally, some radios have scanning capabilities to monitor multiple channels simultaneously.
Bluetooth Headsets: To use Bluetooth functionality, users typically pair their VHF radio with compatible Bluetooth headsets or other devices. This provides hands-free communication and enhances safety, especially when operating a boat or vehicle.
Power Sources: These radios are usually powered by the vessel's electrical system, often with the option for backup battery power in case of emergencies.
Legal Requirements: Users should be aware of legal requirements and regulations related to marine VHF radio usage, including obtaining an operator's license and adhering to channel usage rules.
Car and Vehicle Electronics: While primarily used in marine applications, some VHF radios with Bluetooth features can also be installed in vehicles, especially those used for off-road or remote adventures where regular cellular communication may not be available.
In summary, VHF radios with Bluetooth offer versatile communication options for marine and vehicle applications. They provide a means of staying connected with other vessels or land-based stations, enhancing safety and convenience while on the water or in remote areas. It's important to choose a reliable and suitable VHF radio for your specific needs and to comply with any relevant regulations.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use this radio as a scanner to listen to great lake freighter radio traffic |
Answer: | Yes, but if you only want to listen to voice traffic, a cheaper VHF, without DSC and GPS, will also work fine. Most are about $100 cheaper. This radio is suitable for recreational vessels involved in racing and coastal cruising. |
Question: | is this pair of radios? (2 radios for |
Answer: | Nope, it is a single radio. The two-way designation means it both receives and transmits, as apposed to, say, your car radio, which only receives. |
Question: | how far off shore will this radio work |
Answer: | Dennis, I have only used it in local waters but believe this VHF will work 15 to 20 miles away. If you go off shore (15 to 50 miles) you should rely on a VHF with large antenna etc. |
Question: | If I buy 3 of these radios can I talk and listen to others on the same channel |
Answer: | Recent FCC change makes it legal to talk from shore to a boat on the water. Must restrict oneself to marine related traffic. Effective January 2017, the use of portable VHF radio ashore is allowed, “so long as it is limited to enhancing the usefulness of marine VHF radios without negatively affecting maritime communications.” From BoatUS Magazine, April-May, 2017 |

User questions & answers
Question: | I can only hit two where I live. Is the extra 3 watts going to gain any range |
Answer: | ANTENNA ANTENNA ANTENNA The extra watts will do less to improve transmission and reception than a quality antenna. As others have said, to increase your signal strength at the receiving radio by one S unit you have to quadruple the power output. The difference between the UV-5R standard radio and the "8 watt" "high power" radios is only a doubling of power. If you are on the move use the Nagoya 771 antenna (and watch you don't poke out your eye). If you are stationary, a homebrew 2 meter dipole or the Ed Fong antenna will significantly improve your transmission and reception. Amateur Extra HAM instructor VP local HAM club |
Question: | what kind of range can I expect |
Answer: | With the included antenna, you will get about 10 kilometers on open area land. About 5 kilometers in suburban settings. In urban settings, aabout a kilometer or two. In a boat, a bit further than 10kilometers. With the Nagoya extended antenna, you can make 20 kilometers, more or less, on open ground. However, use an external antenna on the roof of a building and you can double that range! Power does increase range. But, antenna increases range far more than more power. |
Question: | I am trying to receive frequencies in the 800mhz range but it will not allow me to enter |
Answer: | You can program these for whatever frequencies you want by downloading CHIRP and modifying the radio drivers with a text editor... Then just change the frequency range to 900mhz or whatever you want... I would not suggest trying to transmit at those frequencies but people have had some success with receiving frequencies out of band that way... You may also want to try an RF downconverter if you would rather go the hardware way instead of the software way... More info at http://www.brickolore.com/2012/05/baofeng-uv-5r-extreme-receive.html |
Question: | Which frequencies will I be required to become licensed for? How do I know which repeaters I might use and their associated membership fees? Thank you |
Answer: | You cannot use this radio in any unlicensed frequency. It is not type accepted for any radio service and is therefore illegal to sell, advertise, market, or ship to anywhere in the US. It is probably legal to use in a Ham band if you have a ham license. Ham licenses come with some great benefits, such as being able to use un-aproved radios, it is well worth the effort to get one. BTW, I have two of these radios. They work about as well as a UV-5R, of which they are a derivative They just over-powered a 5 watt radio to make it spit out 8 watts. It gets you VERY little extra distance and the transmission is really really dirty. It blows all over the 2 meter bands. If you want to see what the FCC does to out of service marketing Google "FCC DA-18-980A1". This radio has no legal use in the US except on the ham bands by hams. It is very illegal to use for MURS and FRS, and not even OK for FMRS. It transmits so dirty it is pretty obvious to anyone with a good HR rig with a display or an FCC truck that you are using a BF-F8HP. It's got a rather unique signal signature. If you want a Baofeng get one of these. They are all certified part 90 which makes them legal to sell and ship, and no questions about using them for Ham use. And get a ham license, it really opens up your options. Question: | Where this device has been manufactured |
Answer: | The ICOM IC-A25N Transceiver is manufactured in Japan. |
Question: | Does this come with a charger |
Answer: | Yes. It comes with the 110 wall plug in |
Question: | Is there DME capability |
Answer: | No, but has GPS. Not much experience playing with the Nav functions. |
Question: | Can the gps functionality connect to an ipad to use foreflight |
Answer: | No. From my experience there is no connectivity with foreflight. This radio uses the Icom RS-Aero app and Bluetooth to communicate. You can plan your own routes in their app but no connectivity with anything even google or Apple Maps. Great radio but stand alone unit. Bluetooth will work with your ipad and headset though if it is equipped. Nice for back up without fumbling for cords but you do need to turn on Bluetooth from the radio. |

Question: | Does it transmit gps when transmitting a mayday |
Answer: | No, this is not a GPS equipped unit. You'll have to spend significantly more for that capability. |

Answer: | They shipped my order to NZ within a few days |
Question: | Can the Atlantis 155 be recharged with an optional or universal AC charger |
Answer: | The unit I purchased included a 120v AC adapter. If using a universal type AC charger, make sure to pay attention to the voltage/amperage/polarity requirements as you can destroy electronics very easily if using the wrong type. User questions & answers
Question: | What's the range/distance with this on |
Answer: | That answer is completely dependent on your surroundings and how much of the area will block the signal ... or not! If you want this radio to provide communication over short distances it is a good choice but if you are wanting it for emergency or long distance your best choice would be to upgrade to a standard full powered radio WITH a much more capable add on marine antenna. |
Question: | What accessaries does it come with |
Answer: | It comes with a charger and a stand to hold it during charging, and a belt clip |
Question: | Do I need a license to use these radios |
Answer: | No |
Question: | Are the batteries replaceable, if so what is the cost |
Answer: | Those are two EXCELLENT questions!!!! I just recently had to discard a small favorite portable TV of mine because it had built in batteries that failed and would not work. I took it apart to see the circuitry to find it would have been next to impossible to repair myself or extremely expensive or impractical to have it done. I AM HAPPY TO REPORT TO YOU THAT THIS ICOM RADIO HAS REPLACEABLE BATTERY PACKS! The battery pack is a "BP-285" 7.2 volt 1485 mAh (minimum) - 1570 mAh (typical) capacity with a battery life of 9 hours calculated with some very specific conditions (noted in manual). I am assuming "life" means how long it will operate on a single full charge under the conditions stated in the manual. FYI: I have been using ICOM marine radios for OVER 35 years and all of them basically still work (i.e., squelch on one has failed but the radio still works, and the other has lights (back lighting) that have burned out but the radio still works). For any electronic device to work that long in a harsh marine environment is a credit to the design and manufacturer who fabricated it ... that is why I support them, recommend them and trust them with my life, my crew and my guests (literally). |
