User questions & answers

Question: Can i use my phones 5g data while connected to deeper's wifi signal
Answer: Android devices will not work with mobile data when connected to this type of wifi direct device.
Question: Do you guys have an answer for all the reviews saying it has limited range? What would cause this issue
Answer: Hi there, we do. The maximum connection range that the Deeper Start can achieve is 165 ft. However, the range can be reduced if your smartphone or tablet has a weak Wi-Fi antenna. Other than that, there are couple of steps you can follow in order to get the best kind of connection range, and you can find them here: https://deepersonar.com/us/en_us/manual/maximizing-connectivity
Question: It says it connects through WiFi. What if there isn't WiFi available? Do I need an internet connection to use this
Answer: You don’t need a Wi-Fi internet connection or mobile data at your fishing spot! The Deeper device has an internal Wi-Fi access point that you can connect on your smartphone or tablet. All you have to do is to turn on Wi-Fi on your smartphone and connect to Deeper access point. You can connect your Deeper device in any place of the world - even the rain-forest of Amazon.
Question: I fish in a pond in Florida with lots of turtles. Would the finder show these as fish
Answer: Thanks for the question! Due to air-bladders, fishes provide a slightly different kind of ultra-sound return compared to other underwater objects, so you shouldn't have any issues - Deeper is smart enough to distinguish what kind of sonar return is a fish or not.

Product features

Deeper Start Fishfinder

The Start smart sonar is an easy-to-use, wireless, castable fish finder for recreational bank, dock or shore fishing. Paired with the user-friendly Deeper App, you’ll be able to see fish location, their size and suspended depth as well as underwater bottom contour and vegetation. It easily casts out and scans down to 165 ft. Now you’ll spend more time catching and less time searching, sweating and swearing.

Comes with user-friendly instruction manual and USB charging cable.

Key Start Features

  • Fish Finding – Fish icons in three sizes to indicate size. Fish depth tags so you’ll know where they are in the water column. Fish alarm so you’ll never miss a fish.
  • Discover Underwater Details – Displays bottom contour, vegetation and depth scale so you can pinpoint fish feeding spots or ambush points.
  • Data Retrieval – All scans automatically saved with date/time stamp and view-able in app History.

How the Wi-Fi Works?

The Start utilizes smart technology to send sonar readings directly to your smartphone via Wi-Fi. You do not need an internet connection or cellular data for the fish finder to work. It generates its own Wi-Fi signal, which syncs with your smartphone, anytime, anywhere. Wi-Fi connectivity is 10x better and more reliable than Bluetooth.

Charging

Make sure your fish finder is fully charged. The Deeper Start charges in 2.5 hours and uses a USB cable that is compatible with any USB port. The battery lasts for 6 hours of continuous usage. Keep in mind that it isn’t necessary to use it continuously, unless you’re having fun scanning.

Connecting

Use the barrel swivel to securely attach the fishing line to your Start fish finder. Place it in the water and it will automatically switch on. Connect to your fish finder via your phone settings. Then, open the Deeper App (make sure it’s up-to-date) to start scanning the water.

Important: Make sure you have turned off all Wi-Fi assistance on your smartphone (e.g., “Wi-Fi Assist” on iOS) or switch off Cellular Data altogether. This will ensure an uninterrupted connection.

Casting

Once connected, you’re ready to cast out. Your Start has a connection range of 165ft. To ensure a solid connection, do not put your phone on the ground or in your pocket. We recommend using the Deeper smartphone mount for your rod.

Scanning

Once your fish finder hits the water, you’ll start to see fish and depth data on your smartphone screen. Slowly reel in the fish finder and you will see changes in depth and fish location. If you don’t see any fish icons, that means there aren’t any fish! Try another spot until you find fish.

Important : The screen will scroll from right to left even if your sonar is stationary. That’s because your fish finder is constantly sending out scanning beams.

STRIKER 4

3.5-inch CHIRP Fishfinder with GPS.

Navigate Easily with Waypoint Map

Since the STRIKER fishfinder series includes high-sensitivity GPS, you can see your position in relation to waypoints you have marked. Use the waypoint map to easily view, mark and navigate to locations such as brush piles, stumps and docks. It’s also a great tool for finding your way back to the boat ramp.

Check Your Speed on Screen

You can quickly and easily see your boat’s speed on the screen of your STRIKER fishfinder. It’s a great tool to make sure you are trolling at the right speed for the lure you’re using and for a particular fish species. It’s also a good way to tell if you are going the right speed in wake-controlled areas.

Take Your Fishfinder Anywhere

A portable kit is available to protect and carry your STRIKER fishfinder with GPS, so it’s perfect for kayak, canoe or ice fishing. It includes a sealed, rechargeable battery with charger, built-in transducer cable management and storage and suction cup transducer mount and float.

Experience the Clarity of CHIRP

STRIKER 4 fishfinder includes a Garmin CHIRP (77/200 kHz) transducer, which provides a visibly higher level of clarity and detail for fish and structure than traditional 77/200 kHz transducers.

Instead of sending just 1 single frequency, CHIRP sends a continuous sweep of frequencies, ranging from low to high, then interprets them individually upon their return. Since the frequencies provide a wider range of information, CHIRP sonar technology can create crisper fish arches with greater target separation.

You also can upgrade to high-performance Garmin CHIRP technology, which provides crystal-clear sonar images with even more remarkable target separation and resolution from shallow to deeper depths. For better fishing, bottom contours are more visible, even at higher speeds, and signal noise can be suppressed at greater depths to provide a more timely interpretation of what’s below.

User questions & answers

Question: Will the Ice fishing mode work in lakes with no ice? If so, would it be accurate
Answer: Hi there, it will work for sure. Ice fishing mode is a sonar mode with ice flasher view as well as a regular sonar view, and it will work just fine even if there's no ice on the lake. You can also switch to Standard or on-shore GPS modes of the sonar, which are specifically designed for scanning open-water.
Question: If i dont have wifi or cellular phone carrier i cannot use pro
Answer: You do not need Internet data to use Deeper PRO/PRO+.Deeper PRO/PRO+ itself sends a WiFi signal that your smartphone picks up and pairs with a device.
Question: How long does it take till battery is fully charged
Answer: Haven't charged it from completely flat yet, but two hours would appear to be sufficient.
Question: What bodies of water can i use this product
Answer: You can use it in any body of water. You will get the most accurate readings when the depth is between 0,5m to 80m.
Question: Please i need a trasceduser cable replacement. How much will it cost me
Answer: Usually we didn't sell the transducer alone. If you already bought fish finder from us before, please contact us through amazon message and we will give you the offer for the transducer alone.
Question: It works in salt water
Answer: Yes,this Lucky fish finder can work well in salt water. It is suitable for ocean、lakes and rivers. Hope this helps.
Question: can you mount the transistor in side the kayak
Answer: Usually people will fix the transducer on the hull of the kayak (the outside). Because the transducer can only be working when it touches the water.
Question: Does it work well for ice fishing
Answer: Yes it works well for ice fishing, although you must drop the transducer below the ice in order for it to read depth accurately. I also found that it has the potential to mis-detect large tube jigs as a fish, but I actually don’t mind that as it tells me how deep my bait is. I also use this with my kayak mounted with the bracket, so I get double duty. Battery life is fantastic even in below zero temps. I’ve been out with it on several outings below freezing and I’m still on the same set of batteries! I would recommend this product.

Fishing spots made easier!

What is the depth, bottom contour and water temp? How grassy is it?

Just cast out your Deeper Smart Sonar PRO+ to get instant depth and water temperature readings. Once you are retrieving your Deeper PRO+, it pinpoints the features carp love, like humps, depressions and marginal shelves. You will see the greenery and its thickness. Deeper, also, helps you to discover if the bottom is hard or soft, with gravel or silt. As the Deeper PRO+ is a sonar, you can even locate the carp themselves. So, if you’ve baited an area, you can monitor if the fish are staying there or moving elsewhere.

All the information at your disposal to catch that perfect carp you have always wanted.

Cast

Know the depth of any spot in an instant just by casting out - it’s quicker and causes less disturbance than using a marker float.

Scan

Reel in your Deeper PRO+ slowly and steadily to locate different features and vegetation areas, and to see bottom contour, hardness and consistency.

Target

Find out how the depth changes in different spots and locate those shelves and humps the carp hang around.

Map

All scans and maps can be saved to Lakebook, Deeper’s bathymetric management platform. By seeing and knowing more, you’ll be able to find hot spots faster, locate target species better and map it all for later retrieval and analysis.

Data saved on Cloud

Every scan and map are saved on the Fish Deeper App, and available on any computer using Lakebook. You can build up a detailed record of every location you fish.

Humminbird HELIX 5 G2 Series Fish Finders

There’s no such thing as 'too early' or 'too far.' High expectations go with the territory. The HELIX 5 Series answers the call with an uncompromising widescreen color display. Available on select models, Humminbird CHIRP Digital Sonar and Imaging Sonar reveal the lake bottom, while GPS mapping, AutoChart Live and Humminbird Basemap show you the way.

Feature for feature, it has what it takes to win the day. Do you? No doubt.

Includes transducer and mounting hardware, power cable and gimbal mounting bracket.

2D Sonar

If your goal is to locate and see fish more clearly, start here. Humminbird’s 2D sonar offerings are far from two-dimensional. Whether you’re fishing freshwater lakes, coastal waters or the ice, you’ll find the right solution for your environment and prey.

SwitchFire

SwitchFire lets you control the way your returns appear. With two display modes—Max Mode and Clear Mode—you can choose how much detail, including fish, structure and thermoclines, you want to see or un-see.

Dual Beam

With a wide beam for more search area or a narrow beam for more precision, DualBeam shows you fish and the bottom. DualBeam Plus lets you combine the two beams for even more detail.

Digital CHIRP

CHIRP stands for 'Compressed High Intensity Radar Pulse.' That’s a fancy way of saying it can show you fish that other forms of 2D sonar can’t. How’s that? CHIRP scans the water for fish similar to the way the seek function on your truck’s radio scans the airwaves for FM stations. By covering a wide range of frequencies, CHIRP produces more accurate, more detailed returns of fish, structure and the bottom.

Imaging - It's all in the details

Amazing Humminbird Imaging sonar shoots high-frequency beams below the surface to reveal structure, cover and contours with crystal clarity.

Side Imaging - Nowhere to Hide

Gain an unprecedented, side-to-side perspective on the world below the surface with Side Imaging. In an instant, the ultra-thin beam scans the area to the left and right of your boat location. The return image for each slice is then added to the images taken immediately before and after to build an incredible view of the lake bottom. (image displays MEGA Side Imaging)

Down Imaging - Look Out Below

Get a fish-eye’s view of what’s happening below your boat with Down Imaging. These incredible images are created with high-frequency sound waves emitted in ultra-thin slices. The sonar returns from these waves produce a 'portrait.' As you patrol the water, you’ll watch timber, brush, bridge pilings, rocks and any other structure pop with stunning detail. (image displays MEGA Down Imaging)

Built-In Basemap - Ready to fish, right out of the box

We’ve enhanced our standard Basemap to deliver more detail and a superior angling experience. The Humminbird Basemap is built into all SOLIX Series and GPS-equipped HELIX Series G2/G2N models. Based on freshwater data from LakeMaster and NOAA, the most-trusted saltwater source, these accurate maps provide you with a clear view of underwater terrain. Identify buoys, daymarkers, hazards, marinas and countless other navigation aids and points of interest with our comprehensive icon system. You’ll also see contours, depth markings and, for coastal areas, spot soundings. On the water, confidence is key. And the Humminbird Basemap delivers.

Autochart Live - Create your map-sterpiece (On select models)

Build richly detailed maps of your favorite fishing spots in real time with Humminbird AutoChart Live, available on the SOLIX Series and all GPS-equipped HELIX Series models. Map the water as you drive the boat, with eight hours of built-in recording time. Once your map is live, view it with vegetation, bottom hardness and depth contours to locate the best fish-holding areas. Also, use it with i-Pilot Link Follow and other patented Humminbird LakeMaster features. The future of digital charting has arrived. Better get on board.

Navigation - Built-In GPS

Get unparalleled GPS technology out of the box. Many Humminbird fishfinders have our powerful Precision GPS/WAAS receiver built right in and provides fast position fixes accurate within 2.5 meters. For those models without it, there are several options: Add the Humminbird Precision GPS/WAAS receiver for permanent GPS capability on your boat. Use Humminbird’s adapter and the NMEA output on your own handheld GPS unit, or use Humminbird’s InterLink to allow two fishfinders to access one GPS receiver.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the 4cv have a memory card slot for storing data? The specifications on Garmin state it can map up to 2 million acres with 1' contours
Answer: No, not that I know of anyway.
Question: do they offer and transducer extender cable
Answer: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/pn/010-11617-10
Question: Does it have gps to find way back to dock
Answer: The unit employs tracks. Meaning if you selected in the menu option it will track your progress throughout the day.so if you merely follow your track back to your origin it will take you back to the dock. You can also create waypoints that you can navigate to. So if you created a waypoint and named it dock you could simply use the unit to make your way back to the dock .
Question: Why do people complain about the lack of instructions when there is a user manual on this page labeled "user manual" under product description
Answer: User manual is online and easy to print. Also its pretty easy to figure out how to use it. If I can figure it out , anyone can. Today's smartphones are harder to figure out. Also, YouTube is very helpful.

Answer: I am considering a release clip on the I bobber to a separate line. It won't work for casting but if you are letting it out in a current it may be neat to see the fish hit the bait. But I would hate to lose it on a fish.
Question: Can I use it as a simple depth finder white 5mph trolling ? ANd what is minimum depth
Answer: You may find it tough to troll with it if not impossible. I just use it on my Kayak while paddling and it loses total accuracy. It skips bottom detail and depth is completely inaccurate. It tends to "artifact" on the screen. Also, the 3' minimum is pretty close although at times I've wondered exactly how accurate the depth is.
Question: does this work with Amazon fire OS
Answer: I got it working on my 2018 Kindle ...wouldn't know about older or newer models
Question: Anyone compare the iBobber to the very similar (but 2x more expensive) Deeper portable fish finder
Answer: Yes. I had the Deeper first, but lost the device in a rainstorm. I decided to get the iBobber as a replacement to the Deeper. The Deepers hardware and software is much more detailed than the iBobbers. The iBobbers only has a 90 degree scan, as opposed to the Deepers 90 degree, and 120 degree scans. The Deeper shows 4 different sizes of fish, along with several types of "fish" alarms. Both offer a 15 minute sonar scan replay. Please note that both sonar bobbers require re-syncing upon each and every use. As the sonar bobbers only turn on when in the water or charging. The Deeper has quicker syncing time than that of the iBobber. If I had to buy another sonar ball, I might first look at the sonar scanners available in a RC boat package. The RC option seems much easier to get the sonar scans "where" you want them, and less water noise when casting your sonar bobbers out. If I had to get another sonar "bobber" I would recommend the Deeper.Does this justify Deepers cost of roughly 2X the iBobber? What the iBobber brings to the table is simple easy to use scanning. The Deeper offers much more than the iBobber in regards to hardware and software

iBobber Wireless Fish Finder

The mobile fish finder and app that you can bring with you wherever you fish. The iBobber was designed with portability and flexibility in mind so anglers of all skill levels and types could take the latest in portable sonar fish finding technology with them on the go. Using an iPhone or Android mobile device anglers can mark fish, map depth contours and underwater structure, save water temp, weather and location, species, photos and hot spots and choose to share on social media directly if desired.

The iBobber is one of the best personal fish finder on the market for fishing from shore and docks, and is ideal for kayak, raft or canoe fishing and for bottom sounding areas not accessible by boat. It works in saltwater and freshwater, and is very effective at locating fish and structures on ponds, lakes, streams, and rivers. It even works for ice fishing.

The free app syncs via Bluetooth Smart to the iBobber device, and allows you to map waterbeds, mark spots, log water temps and depth, add lures, species, and photos in the trip log. The built-in LED beacon, and the strike and fish alarms, are great for ice fishing, carp, and night fishing. The high contrast design and the app’s anti-glare setting increases visibility in bright outdoor lighting.

Fishing Gifts

Do you have an angler or outdoors lover in the family for whom you'd like to buy some fishing gear for but don’t know what to get? Are you an angler worried that your spouse is going to spend a bunch of money on some gear you don’t need or already have? In either case we have a great solution for you. The iBobber portable fish finder and app is a great fishing gift for the angler on the go, the young angler just getting into fishing and even the seasoned pro with all the gear imaginable. There are several reasons why we think the iBobber makes a great fishing gift at the holidays, on birthdays, Father’s Day or Mother’s Day. The relatively low price and high quality are immediate advantages and even for the fisherman who has everything, including a fishing boat and lots of gear, chances are they don’t have a portable fish finder in their tacklebox.

A lot of anglers are very picky about their gear, especially rods, reels and lures and the iBobber is a great new piece of tackle that they most likely don’t already have. The iBobber is a personal sonar device that helps anglers catch fish in a wide variety of situations and will augment anyone’s individual fishing style. Plus, it’s cool and uses the latest in sonar and mobile phone technology and anyone who loves tech will enjoy using the iBobber. You can think of it as an iPhone fish finder or Android fish finder and it even works with the Google Watch and iWatch.

If your favorite angler loves ice fishing it makes a great Christmas / Holiday season gift because they will be able to go out and use it immediately. The iBobber and app are ideal tools for ice fishing due to the light weight and portability, making it easy to bring along on the ice, but also for the ice fishing features like the fish alarm, when fish are present, trip log to save your favorite spots, water temps, depths and species caught and GPS marking for future trips.

The app is free and so it’s especially useful for sharing with others like when camping or at a house on the water where lots of people come and fish and folks take out rafts, canoes, kayaks, rowboats, jonboats etc. The light weight and portability are features that make it perfect for camping, RVing and hiking trips and for times when using a boat is not practical or allowed. If the angler in your family has their phone, the ultralight iBobber and their current fishing gear they can find fish anywhere they go.

Shore Fishing

Catching more fish from shore requires some preparation and using a castable fish finder is a great way to figure out what the bottom looks like. The iBobber is one of the lightest of the portable fish finders that can be cast long distances to map the bottom contours and locate schools of fish or structure, ledges and holes where the big ones lurk. You can GPS mark spots, laydowns (trees that have fallen), weed beds, dropoffs and other underwater structure where fish might be lying in wait to ambush baitfish.

Dock and Pier Fishing

The iBobber is great addition to your tackle bucket for pier fishing. You’ll have the advantage over all the other anglers who don't know where the fish are. Whether in freshwater or at the ocean, just cast out to map the waterbed, mark fish and save GPS locations and you’ll catch more and larger fish every time. Use the iBobber fishfinder feature to locate and warn you when schools of fish gather under docks and piers and use the fish alarm to let you know when they are biting.

Kayak and (SUP) Fishing

Portable watercraft fishing is the fastest growing segment in the fishing industry and for good reason. Whether fishing in saltwater for redfish or freshwater for large or smallmouth the appeal of these craft is obvious, especially when many great fishing waterways don’t allow powered watercraft. There’s something primeval about getting closer to nature and your targets and doing battle with a big fish from a small boat. The iBobber is one of the perfect kayak accessory as a fish and depth finder that doesn’t require permanent installation and allows for reach beyond the hull.

Ice Fishing and Night Fishing

If your favorite angler loves ice fishing it makes a great Christmas / Holiday season gift because the recipient will be able to go out and use it immediately. The iBobber and app are ideal tools for ice fishing due to the light weight, portability and the fish finder and fish alarms, that let you know when fish are present and when they bite. Also use the trip log to save your favorite spots, water temps, depths and species caught and GPS marking for future trips.
