The camera installs easily above your license plate and outputs crystal clear video over an RCA jack. The monitor clips to your rear view mirror. The monitor detects when you back up and shows the camera on screen. When you put your car back in drive, the image disappears – and your mirror becomes a mirror again. Perfect for backing into tight spots or moving in reverse when visibility is limited – it’s like having an extra eye. And this model comes with nightvision LEDs, which illuminate the area behind you at night. This small and durable unit will keep you safe and secure because you’ll always know what’s going on around you. The mirror also has multiple video inputs so you can hook up a portable DVD player or iPod. There is a seam that runs around the body of the camera itself. That seam is marine coated, however in environments that vary in temperature greatly, the plastic can contract and let in water. We suggest using clear silicone to go around that seam approximately 0.25" in width. This covers the expansion and contraction of the plastic body.

| Answer: | Despite the fun we can have with that comment, consider this. As designed, this is a back-up camera which means it will illuminate the area extending out the rear of your vehicle if used as intended where the camera and license plate frame is mounted to the rear license plate mounting area. If you mount it FRONT facing (say on the front license plate frame) then YES, it will probably see a deer at night, but I suspect that if you got your headlights on at night (always a good idea, in my opinion) you will see the deer through your windshield, that big glass thing in front of you. I would not suggest staring at the display monitor in that case. An officer sees you and you'd get a ticket for distracted driving. Again, as in most cases, common sense dictates how you use a product and no amount of instructions can replace common sense. Use it as intended and you will see a deer in the rear if it is within the day view or the infrared illuminated LED night view. |

I had the smaller 4" wireless one first from another manufacture and it was hard to see and did cycle on and off every once and awhile. In this scenario, with the screen powered on and nothing connected all you will get is a blue screen but connect the included camera to the video input on the screen and supply 12v to the camera and the blue screen will disappear and be replaced with the video from the camera. Power both camera and screen from the same source and they will turn on and off together (this way you will never get a blue screen). Connect them to the vehicle's backup lights and they both will turn on when the vehicle is in reverse. I drive a cargo van and have mine connected so that it is on as long as my engine is running, that way I can see behind me while I am driving. |
