11 best mcm audio crossovers
MCM Audio crossovers are electronic components used in car audio systems to divide and distribute audio signals to the appropriate speakers. These crossovers play a crucial role in ensuring that the right frequencies are sent to the right speakers, ultimately improving the sound quality and overall listening experience in a vehicle. Here's what you can expect from MCM Audio crossovers:
Frequency Division: Crossovers are designed to split the incoming audio signal into different frequency ranges. This division ensures that low-frequency sounds, such as bass notes, are directed to subwoofers or woofers, while mid-range and high-frequency sounds go to the appropriate mid-range and tweeter speakers. This specialization enhances audio clarity and minimizes distortion.
Filter Types: MCM Audio crossovers may offer various filter types, including high-pass filters, low-pass filters, and band-pass filters. High-pass filters allow higher frequencies to pass through, while low-pass filters permit lower frequencies. Band-pass filters, on the other hand, allow a specific range of frequencies to pass. The combination of these filters helps tailor the audio output to suit the capabilities of each speaker.
Speaker Protection: Crossovers can also serve as a form of speaker protection. By directing only the appropriate frequencies to each speaker, they prevent damage that can occur when speakers receive frequencies they cannot handle.
Sound Quality Enhancement: Properly implemented crossovers improve the overall sound quality by reducing distortion and ensuring that each speaker is operating within its optimal frequency range. This results in a more balanced and enjoyable audio experience for car occupants.
Adjustability: Some MCM Audio crossovers may offer adjustable settings, allowing users to fine-tune the crossover points and slopes to match the specific characteristics of their car audio system and their personal preferences.
Compatibility: MCM Audio crossovers are designed for use in car audio systems and are typically compatible with various car audio components, including amplifiers, speakers, and subwoofers. They can be integrated into both factory and aftermarket car audio setups.
Installation: Proper installation of crossovers is essential for optimal performance. They are typically connected between the head unit or amplifier and the individual speakers. Wiring and installation instructions are usually provided with the crossovers to assist users in setting them up correctly.
In summary, MCM Audio crossovers are essential components in car audio systems, helping to enhance sound quality, protect speakers, and deliver a more balanced audio experience by directing specific frequencies to the appropriate speakers. They are a valuable addition to any car audio enthusiast's setup.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the actual "crossing-over" done with those adjustable restistors used to select the frequency? Are those of equal quality to a fixed crossover |
Answer: | All I can tell you is I have had this crossover multiple times over the last 15 or so years and this time when I first installed it, it worked just fine for the money but it seems like over time it loses it's ability to do it's job and then it just stops. The highs will just go out and the bass boost and lows will work just fine. I think it is a design flaw that they will never correct because you don't pay them enough money for a really good product I guess. But as long as you just want medium performance this think is ok but it's not the best. |
Question: | Just I whant now Shipping weight |
Answer: | Hello, Just to be on the safe side, let's say 7 pounds. Thank you. |
Question: | May i use this in home studio to send low freq( 20hz-15ohz) to sub, the rest to monitors |
Answer: | Yes. Just make sure the crossover outputs aren't so high that it causes your amplifier to distort. |
Question: | Can I connect the speakers directly to this crossover or is an amp required? I'm not looking to rattle anyone's windows |
Answer: | You will need an amplifier. Preferably an amplifier with RMS power least abilities so the amp will be less. The crossover is an addition to the amplifiers frequency and bass gain! Extremely a game changer when adding it to your amplifier. It can diliver deep bass that is unreachable with just an amplifier alone. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What in your opinion is the best power setting for normal use, "on" or "auto" for this unit |
Answer: | I would say depends if you use the item everyday/constantly as your sound for your surround. Or if you use surround/theater occasionally. If the latter I would use `on/off` , if you use it often or primarily the auto would be the way to go in my opinion. Plus is the sub easy to get to? Auto is great if its behind furniture or out of reach, etc. |
Question: | Does this speaker have a volume control? Thanks |
Answer: | Just to clarify something a previous reviewer stated: "Note: If you are using a Sub out/LFE connection from your receiver turn the Low Pass all the way up. " This does not apply to receivers with which you can specify the low-pass cutover frequency. For example, my modest Onkyo receiver has cutover settings of 80/100/120 HZ for the LFE/Sub output. If you have this option, you should consult your main speaker's manual for suggested low-pass settings or simply tune them by ear. For my setup, 120 HZ was both the recommended and best-sounding cutover frequency. 160 HZ was a little muddy :) |
Question: | Can this sub be added to a Vizio 2.0 sound bar, for small to medium-sized HDTV's? If not, what should I get? For TV/Games/Music |
Answer: | Like John, I too have a Vizio 2.0 sound bar and this pairs very well. I have a small theater room (10 x 20) and this one 10" fills the room. This sub is the best bang for the buck you can get. |
Question: | Do I need a Y-adpater? A sound tech told me one sub wire would do the trick and just plug it into the L and ignore the R. Is this true |
Answer: | Initially, used a one wire connection. Sounded OK, but .... Got a "Y" connector, attached at the rear of the amp, ran L & R wires to the PSW10: sounds amazing now and very adjustable. Need to get the PSW12 to get a one wire connection. Am very satisfied with this sub and would recommend it. Used in a 12' X 20' room, front/back/center and now the sub. Tom |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it 100% copper or is it copper coated aluminium (CCA |
Answer: | There IS a difference between CCA and OFC in terms of speaker wire. If you are running high wattage over a long (>50ft) run length, the cheaper grade CCA will likely become hotter and not handle it well. This 16ga wire should have the same sonic clarity as a smaller 18ga pure copper wire. You get what you pay for. |
Question: | Any updates on CL2 or CL3 rated? There is no straight forward answer on it yet |
Answer: | There is NO fire risk when using this wire for low voltage applications i.e., speaker connections. Most jurisdictions don't care about CL2/CL3 unless you are running 110VAC. This is speaker wire. Don't sweat it! |
Question: | what is the difference in watts when it comes to speakers wires |
Answer: | The answers here are variably correct and incorrect!! The resistance of the speakers (ohms) needs to match the impedance the amplifier circuit is rated to handle. Too small a wire (length is a variable) will induce a resistance that the amplifier will face, like a speaker, and this will alter the "balance" of the intended match!!!! Pushing speakers rated at 500 watts under a constant load of 250 watts will induce heat "resistance" if the line between the amp and the speaker is very small and sound quality will be compromised!!!! Up to 100 feet of lead at a constant load of 500 watts would ideally be handled using 10 gauge copper, braided wire facing from 4 ohms to 16 ohms. Bottom line: Discriminating "audiophiles" popularly tout the use of 12 gauge braided lead for almost all in-home installations ... this allows for component upgrades in the future! As said here, 16 gauge braided lead, in most installations, will produce results that are completely acceptable in matching power and impedance and results!!! |
Question: | Is it oxygen-free copper (OFC) wire |
Answer: | No need for OFC; The high-end speaker wire industry markets oxygen-free copper as having enhanced conductivity or other electrical properties that are supposedly advantageous to audio signal transmission. However, conductivity specifications for common C11000 Electrolytic-Tough-Pitch (ETP) and higher-cost C10200 Oxygen-Free (OF) coppers are identical. Much more expensive C10100, a highly refined copper with silver impurities removed and oxygen reduced to 0.0005%, has only a one percent higher conductivity—insignificant in audio applications. OFC is nevertheless sold for both audio and video signals in audio playback systems and home cinema. |

Question: | I have a Yamaha EMX 88s powered mixer, Im unable to place Xover between amp and mixer...can I make this work |
Answer: | 8.5 ozThere are oz and ml markers on the side of the bottle. The top is not the best design however; mine won't stay on and it has a leak somewhere because it filled with water when I washed it. I chose a glass bottle with a screw top that I like much better. |
Question: | is this suitable for home audio or is it going to be metallic like band crap |
Answer: | It does stay secure, in my experience. Although you can end up with a very small amount of dressing on the outside as you close it tight - a little will squeeze out once the seal has dressing on it. you need to wipe it off before storing |
Question: | will this take more than one subwoofer |
Answer: | My lid seals even after putting it through the dishwasher. It may be defective, send it back get a replacement |
Question: | Having a equalizer and a compresor where i hook it up and wha kind of cables |
Answer: | I don't know. Sorry. Good question which I should have asked. |
