I own 3 older model tomtom GPS units and each one had to be registered to a different email address. I don't know for sure but transferring to a different email address may lose the Lifetime Map and Lifetime Traffic features for you. I would research tomtom's website about "transferring email addresses" BEFORE purchasing.
