10 best video tripod with fluid heads
A video tripod with a fluid head is an essential tool for videographers and filmmakers, designed to provide smooth and precise camera movements, making it ideal for capturing professional-quality video footage. Here's what you need to know about video tripods with fluid heads:
Fluid Head: The key feature of these tripods is the fluid head. Unlike traditional tripod heads, fluid heads incorporate a hydraulic or viscous damping system. This fluid-based mechanism allows for exceptionally smooth and controlled panning (horizontal movement) and tilting (vertical movement) of the camera.
Video-Specific: Video tripods with fluid heads are specifically designed for video applications. They excel at providing smooth and consistent motion, making them ideal for shooting video footage where stability and precision are crucial.
Pan and Tilt Movements: The fluid head enables videographers to perform precise pan and tilt movements. Pan refers to horizontal left-to-right movements, while tilt refers to vertical up-and-down movements. These movements can be adjusted with a high level of precision, allowing for dynamic shots.
Counterbalance: Many fluid heads include a counterbalance system that helps balance the weight of the camera and accessories. This prevents the camera from tilting forward or backward when you release the handle, ensuring stability during shooting.
Drag Control: Fluid heads typically have adjustable drag control knobs. These knobs allow you to control the resistance of the fluid head's movements, making it easier to achieve the desired speed and smoothness in your camera movements.
Quick Release Plate: Most fluid heads come with a quick release plate system. This allows you to quickly attach and detach your camera from the tripod, saving time and effort when transitioning between shots or locations.
Tripod Legs: The tripod legs are an essential component. They provide stability and support for the fluid head and the camera. Video tripods are often built with sturdier materials than those designed for photography to accommodate the weight and movement of video equipment.
Height Adjustment: Video tripods usually offer height-adjustable legs, allowing you to set the camera at the desired height. Some models even allow for ground-level shooting by spreading the legs flat.
Spreader or Center Column: Depending on the model, video tripods may include a spreader or a center column. Spreaders provide extra stability and are commonly used for heavy setups, while a center column can add height adjustability.
Portability: Video tripods with fluid heads come in various sizes and designs. Some are designed to be highly portable and lightweight, while others are more substantial for studio or professional use.
Payload Capacity: It's essential to consider the maximum payload capacity of the tripod. Make sure it can support the weight of your camera, lenses, and any additional accessories you plan to use.
Versatility: Video tripods are versatile tools and can be used for various types of video projects, including documentaries, interviews, music videos, and more.
When selecting a video tripod with a fluid head, consider your specific needs, including the type of camera equipment you use and the type of video work you do.A high-quality video tripod with a fluid head can greatly improve the quality of your video footage by providing smooth and stable camera movements.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it have a level |
Answer: | Sorry, I really don't know. I had returned this head because it seemed overly stiff and had some backlash in trying to position it. I then decided to go with the Manfrotto model MVH502AH which seems to be much smoother (actually perfect) and better built. Also, much better support. (It cost significantly more though.) According to my Manfrotto specs, that head is stated as "Do not use product at temperatures less than -30 degrees C or more than +60 degrees C (-22 F / +140 F). Hopefully the operating temperature of the Neewer would be similar. |
Question: | For the MVH502 head with 75mm Half Ball, is it possible to remove the 75mm Half Ball (unscrewing it somehow) to make a flat based head 4 versatility |
Answer: | I don't understand your question. You mean the price went up... blame the trade war. Or do you mean you don't know the price and are asking what it is... depends on where you are buying it. Sorry I didn't understand your question. |
Question: | Does this work for a slider? Can you adjust where it sits once it is screwed on |
Answer: | It is the head only, no tripod. I would recommend any tripod that is sturdy enough to hold your camera. Amazon has some Revel Tripods that are fairly inexpensive and will definitely do the job. |
Question: | Will it support a loaded rig with cage, matte box, monitor, following focus and audio recorder? The weight plus camera and lens can easily tops 11lb |
Answer: | Do you have the link to eBay for these? I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the head point the camera 90 degree facing up towards the sky |
Answer: | Hello Kavin,Yes, the head will allow for the camera to point up 90 degrees towards the sky.If you have additional questions, please let us know.Thank you,Shannon PROCAM |
Question: | Will the center post invert for macro shots |
Answer: | Yes, it can be inverted. In addition, the tripod legs will go completely flat to the floor and allow the camera (depending on the lens used) to get within less than a foot from the floor. I just checked it out myself with this Manfrotto and my Canon 5D and it's a solid setup for macro photography. If you need a lens less than 10 inches or so from the surface, invert the head and you're good. |
Question: | Is it true that the CF tripod really is only .5lbs lighter? Why is it so much more expensive then |
Answer: | The carbon fiber offers better vibration absorption which comes into play with slow shutter speeds and long focal lengths. Other than that, it's just the weight reduction. If you walk, hike, bike and travel without a car, you'll appreciate every ounce that carbon fiber tripods save. |
Question: | I'm having a wobble with the head...is there an easy fix to this |
Answer: | loosen the thumbscrew on the top of the mount, then rotate the head clockwise until tight. Then you can lockdown the head. should you need to rotate the head in a counter clockwise direction you have to loosen the thumbscrew slightly, other wise it becomes loose and the result will be head wobble. I hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What it the overall height |
Answer: | Maximum height is about 63 inches with all legs pulled out. |
Question: | Is the head removable? Can you attach a slider to this tripod |
Answer: | No the head is not removable, yes you can put a slider on the mount, however, I had to throw this tripod away after a few uses because the 3 inside bars that stabilize the legs together are super thin and weak and broke very easily, I would shop for a different tripod if I were you |
Question: | Will this tripod work with my canon vixia hf g20 and my canon eos 70d? lastly is this a good tripod for the money |
Answer: | Yes it should work with both its should fit the standard tripod screw 1/4-20 and yes it comes new and I don't use it as much as I though I would but so far it is a very good investment on my part hope this helps you |
Question: | Is the fluid head removeable to attach onto something like a slider or other rigs |
Answer: | Unfortunately no. When the head detaches from the handle the screw remains on the bottom of the head. I had to buy a small manfrotto head to put on my slider. |
