13 best tripod with heads

A tripod with a head is an essential piece of equipment in photography and videography. It consists of two main components: the tripod legs and the tripod head. This combination provides stability and support for cameras and other imaging devices. Here's what you need to know about tripod with heads:

  1. Tripod Legs: Tripod legs are the foundational part of the setup. They are designed to provide stability by spreading out and supporting the weight of your camera or camcorder. Tripod legs typically have multiple sections that can be extended or retracted to adjust the height. Some tripods also have adjustable leg angles to accommodate uneven terrain.

  2. Tripod Head: The tripod head is the component that attaches to the top of the tripod legs and holds your camera or camcorder. There are several types of tripod heads, each with its own features:

    • Ball Head: Ball heads are versatile and easy to use. They allow for smooth and quick adjustments in any direction by loosening and tightening a single knob or lever. Ball heads are great for general photography and fast-paced shooting situations.

    • Pan-and-Tilt Head: Pan-and-tilt heads have separate controls for panning (horizontal movement) and tilting (vertical movement). This allows for precise control when composing shots, making them suitable for still photography, landscapes, and video recording.

    • Gimbal Head: Gimbal heads are ideal for long telephoto lenses and wildlife photography. They offer fluid, balanced movement to track moving subjects smoothly while reducing strain on the photographer's arms and wrists.

    • Fluid Head: Fluid heads are designed primarily for video recording. They provide smooth, drag-controlled movement for panning and tilting, ensuring steady and professional-looking video footage.

  3. Quick Release Plate: Many tripod heads come with a quick release plate. This plate attaches to the bottom of your camera or camcorder, allowing for easy and rapid attachment and removal from the tripod head. Quick release plates are a time-saving feature, especially in situations where you need to switch between handheld and tripod-mounted shots frequently.

  4. Weight Capacity: When choosing a tripod with a head, consider the weight capacity of both the tripod legs and the head. Ensure that the combined weight of your camera equipment and accessories does not exceed the tripod's capacity to prevent instability and potential damage.

  5. Portability: Tripods with heads vary in size and weight. Consider your travel needs and whether you require a lightweight, compact tripod for on-the-go shooting or a sturdier, heavier one for studio work.

  6. Additional Features: Some tripod heads may include extra features like bubble levels for ensuring your camera is perfectly level, adjustable tension controls for smoother movement, and integrated pan handles for easier panning.

Choosing the right tripod with a head is crucial for achieving stable and precise shots in photography and videography. Consider your specific needs, shooting style, and equipment when selecting the most suitable tripod and head combination for your purposes.

User questions & answers

Question: Does it have a level
Answer: Sorry, I really don't know. I had returned this head because it seemed overly stiff and had some backlash in trying to position it. I then decided to go with the Manfrotto model MVH502AH which seems to be much smoother (actually perfect) and better built. Also, much better support. (It cost significantly more though.) According to my Manfrotto specs, that head is stated as "Do not use product at temperatures less than -30 degrees C or more than +60 degrees C (-22 F / +140 F). Hopefully the operating temperature of the Neewer would be similar.
Question: For the MVH502 head with 75mm Half Ball, is it possible to remove the 75mm Half Ball (unscrewing it somehow) to make a flat based head 4 versatility
Answer: I don't understand your question. You mean the price went up... blame the trade war. Or do you mean you don't know the price and are asking what it is... depends on where you are buying it. Sorry I didn't understand your question.
Question: Does this work for a slider? Can you adjust where it sits once it is screwed on
Answer: It is the head only, no tripod. I would recommend any tripod that is sturdy enough to hold your camera. Amazon has some Revel Tripods that are fairly inexpensive and will definitely do the job.
Question: Will it support a loaded rig with cage, matte box, monitor, following focus and audio recorder? The weight plus camera and lens can easily tops 11lb
Answer: Do you have the link to eBay for these? I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks.

User questions & answers

Question: What it the overall height
Answer: Maximum height is about 63 inches with all legs pulled out.
Question: Is the head removable? Can you attach a slider to this tripod
Answer: No the head is not removable, yes you can put a slider on the mount, however, I had to throw this tripod away after a few uses because the 3 inside bars that stabilize the legs together are super thin and weak and broke very easily, I would shop for a different tripod if I were you
Question: Will this tripod work with my canon vixia hf g20 and my canon eos 70d? lastly is this a good tripod for the money
Answer: Yes it should work with both its should fit the standard tripod screw 1/4-20 and yes it comes new and I don't use it as much as I though I would but so far it is a very good investment on my part hope this helps you
Question: Is the fluid head removeable to attach onto something like a slider or other rigs
Answer: Unfortunately no. When the head detaches from the handle the screw remains on the bottom of the head. I had to buy a small manfrotto head to put on my slider.

User questions & answers

Question: Which screw driver do I need to take this tripod apart in order to clean it
Answer: I don't know as im not looking at it at this moment but I would use a air compressor and high pressure air first if the dirt is still present then take it apart but be careful many small parts could be lost or broken in the process
Question: whats the weight like on this? i know it says "lightweight," but could i easily pick this up and move with it a small mirrorless system and
Answer: I can easily move the tripod one handed with a gh4 (mirrorless) mounted to it. The "neck" of the tripod makes for a solid grip, and I find it very mobile.
Question: I know the head says it supports 11 lbs, but I’ve swapped that head. What about the legs, what is there max capacity
Answer: Cannot be less than 11 lbs
Question: Is this best for dslr camera video shoot
Answer: Yes I used it myself with a gh2. Worked great.

User questions & answers

Question: Can the head point the camera 90 degree facing up towards the sky
Answer: Hello Kavin,Yes, the head will allow for the camera to point up 90 degrees towards the sky.If you have additional questions, please let us know.Thank you,Shannon PROCAM
Question: Will the center post invert for macro shots
Answer: Yes, it can be inverted. In addition, the tripod legs will go completely flat to the floor and allow the camera (depending on the lens used) to get within less than a foot from the floor. I just checked it out myself with this Manfrotto and my Canon 5D and it's a solid setup for macro photography. If you need a lens less than 10 inches or so from the surface, invert the head and you're good.
Question: Is it true that the CF tripod really is only .5lbs lighter? Why is it so much more expensive then
Answer: The carbon fiber offers better vibration absorption which comes into play with slow shutter speeds and long focal lengths. Other than that, it's just the weight reduction. If you walk, hike, bike and travel without a car, you'll appreciate every ounce that carbon fiber tripods save.
Question: I'm having a wobble with the head...is there an easy fix to this
Answer: loosen the thumbscrew on the top of the mount, then rotate the head clockwise until tight. Then you can lockdown the head. should you need to rotate the head in a counter clockwise direction you have to loosen the thumbscrew slightly, other wise it becomes loose and the result will be head wobble. I hope this helps.

From the Manufacturer

Take the versatility of a ball head, add true ergonomic control and you get the 322RC2 Horizontal Grip Action Ballhead! The 322RC2 is unique in that it allows you to unblock, move, position and lock your camera with one hand in one position. This is due to the revolutionary design of its grip handle which incorporates the ball lock lever.

A friction control wheel lets you regulate the power of the blocking mechanism to match the weight of your camera and lens. The 322RC2 is made from magnesium for lightweight performance, and is designed to keep the weight of your equipment as close as possible to the tripod's center of gravity by way of its reduced height. It is this fact, matched with the precision construction of the 322RC2 that gives the head its load capacity of 11 pounds (5.5 pound capacity when in the vertical position).

The 322RC2 comes complete with a built-in bubble spirit level and quick release camera plate (standard 1/4-20-inch screw, with secondary safety pin). The 322RC2 is suitable for use with 35mm or medium format cameras. In addition, you can also mount the 322RS shutter release accessory. The 322RS is a world's first. With its remote control electronic camera shutter release, the 322RC2 becomes the only photographic head available today that can put camera control within reach without having to move your hand from the head grip to the camera body.

Features include:

  • Sturdy all-metal construction.
  • The compact, rectangular 200PL quick release plate system fits neatly under small-bodied still cameras up to SLR (even with tele lenses) or small medium format, or under small video cameras or spotting scopes. Its rubber pad gives a good grip without damaging the camera, and its angled sides ensure that it also fits perfectly and tightly into a wide range of Manfrotto heads.
  • This head features a secondary security lock so you can't accidentally release the plate (and camera) without meaning to. The lock stops the quick release lever from opening fully.
  • A convenient single locking mechanism blocks or frees movement on all axes for greater speed of use.
  • Separate control for pre-setting the friction of the ball when unblocked. The position of the red line indicates the approximate amount of friction applied.
  • By keeping the head and camera mounting plate as low as possible, the camera is kept safely closer to the tripod's center of gravity for more stable support.
  • Thanks to the repositionable camera plate, this can be used right- or left-handed. Photographers are normally forced to be right-handed by the position of the shutter release button, but the advantage of this system even to right-handed users is that you can keep one hand on the grip to control framing position and switch rapidly between portrait and landscape settings, while the other hand stays on the camera, ready to shoot even with the head in movement. Keeping both hands positioned like this gives you greater control over panning or tracking shots.
  • Designed for use with the 322RS electronic or 322RSM manual shutter release cables and mounts; the first accessories to let you control head positioning and shutter release at the same time, with the same hand, without needing to let go of the head grip.
  • The built-in, carefully hand-set bubble spirit level helps make sure your horizons really are horizontal.

What's in the Box:

Ball head, quick release plate.

  • PRACTICE: With one hand you can unlock, move, position and lock the camera again, thanks to the ergonomic handle that controls the friction
  • LIGHTWEIGHT AND COMPACT: Thanks to the magnesium body this tripod head is easy to carry
  • SAFE: The locking mechanism is controlled by the lever-operated friction, allowing you to counterbalance the weight of the camera
  • STRONG: The magnesium body makes this head particularly strong, with a capacity to hold up to 5 kg. It is suitable for 35mm and medium format digital cameras
  • COMPATIBLE: The Grip Action ball head gives you the possibility to also mount a Manfrotto Remote Control

User questions & answers

Question: How is this grip attached to the tripod
Answer: This unit is intended for a higher-end tripod that doesn't include a head, or if it does, is a removable with standard screw on top - see item description below: See Manfrotto specs here: https://www.manfrotto.com.br/heavy-duty-grip-ball-head.html or in item description on Amazon: The 322RC2 comes complete with a built-in bubble spirit level and quick release camera plate (standard 1/4-20-inch screw, with secondary safety pin).
Question: Is the quick releaese Arca swiss compatible
Answer: No, it uses a clamp and plate that is proprietary to Manfrotto. I have attached a low-profile clamp from RRS that is ARCA-compatible to the Manfrotto plate, and that works for me. Peak Design also makes a plate that can be set up to work both with this Manfrotto clamp and an ARCA clamp (such as their capture clamp). Each plate orientation would be at 90˚ to the other, so that would be a consideration.
Question: will this head handle a Nikorr 70-200 zoom lens? Lens weighs 3.4 lbs. and this head is rated for more, but, the "light duty" part worries me
Answer: Easily works with my 70-200 lens, however, I mount the camera and lens from the rotating ring on the lens (not camera body) so that the weight is distributed equally across the mounting plate.
Question: Does anyone have the peak design capture (sling or clutch) working on this head? i know the rc2 is hit or miss when connecting to it
Answer: I have tried it, and it 'works', that is to say it is possible to use the bolt supplied with the Manfrotto QR plate to attach the PD clamp on top, but I personally found it to be less than useful. The capture system works very well as designed for belts or straps, but I found it to be fiddly on a monopod or ball head. The QR clamp I find most useful on this head is a UniqBall UCX X-Cross Clamp. It can indeed be used with PD plates, but there's a trick: instead of placing the plate in the middle of all 4 claws, slide it half-way between 2. ;)As always, YMMV.
Question: Does it work with a manfrotto mt190xpro3 tripod
Answer: My friend unfortunately i can not answer this question because I have zomei tripod not Manfrotto tripod, you can check the properties for the tripod and fluid head, and according to the results you may know.. Any other questions you are very welcome
Question: Will this work with the 200pl-pro plate
Answer: 200PL-PRO will not work on MVH400AHUS . They are not compatible.
Question: What other types of plates will work with this head, I do not care for the sliding video plate it came with
Answer: I'm sure that you can check the Manfrotto website and see what other connection plates can be used with this, but be aware that the plate that it's designed to be used with, it the best all around, for the designed purpose.
Question: Will this work on the manfrotto befree model number mkbfra-bh? some are claiming this head is not fitting their tripod
Answer: I am in the same predicament, I have the oldest model of the Manfrotto Befree MKBFRA-BH but want the video capable version now. So I either I get his if it's compatible with the Befree MKBFRA-BH or get a new one entirely.

Based on 255 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The key feature of the 190X is the ground level adaptor which allows great shooting creativity. Once placed on the top casting and combined with the 4 leg angles, it enables the tripod to reach ultra-low positions. The legs of the 190X tripod are fast to extend and adjust, thanks to the Quick Power Lock levers. The QPL lever design also offers more powerful locking of each section, meaning the tripod is more stable and rigid than with traditional lever designs. Intuitive and ergonomic leg angle selectors allow each leg to be independently and solidly set to any of the pre-set angles, allowing even greater positioning freedom. The top casting of the 190X has an Easy Link connector to support a photo or video accessory (such as a LED light, flash, reflector, or other piece of equipment) on an extending arm or bracket, turning the tripod into a practical mobile studio. The new XPRO fluid head is the best choice for photographers wanting to start shooting videos to expand their creativity. Thanks to its body in Aluminum and in Adaptor polymer, it is compact, portable and lightweight, weighing a mere 0.7 kg. The XPRO Fluid head has 2 levels of fluidity to switch between hard and soft fluidity according to the kind of movement preferred and to the kind of gear in use. The quick release system is used to accommodate the 200PL plate so there is no need to use different plates when switching from photo to video. The 190X and the MHXPRO-2W head are made in Italy by Monforte. User questions & answers

Question: Will this work for my orion astroview 120st eq telescope

Question: I have an orion goscope 80mm tabletop refractor telescope but it has a connector in the base - will it work with this tripod

Question: Will this tripod work for celestron 20x80 skymaster pro binoculars
Answer: I used it with a 25x100 binoculars. It did work very well for me.
Question: Will i need any adapter to hook it to an orion apex 127 scope
Answer: Hello- I have a SVBONY tripod bracket that works well with my Orion Mini Giant Binoculars. I am not familiar with the Orion Apex 127 scope, but most telescopes come with a mount that slides into the mounting base of the tripod. My concern would be whether the Orion Tritech would be big enough to support the weight of the telescope.

User questions & answers

Question: it comes with a bag or case
Answer: Keep in mind if you get the one with the pan head that it is very hard to fit it into the case. I usually have to remove the handles to get it in.
Question: Can this tripod get really low to the ground/spread out on the ground without extending the arm out
Answer: The Legs DO fold out further, so that you can get lower to the ground. If you want to get lower, what you can do is slide up the middle piece all the way up, it comes out. Then you can flip it upside down so that the camera is now between the 3 legs. Sure your photo will be upside down, but that's what the rotate function is for in your photo editor.
Question: Its so confusing, whats the difference with the 263 tripod kits and tripod, does that mean for 169$ you only get the tripod head
Answer: The trick is to look at the last (second) letter in the model number. If it ends with "T" then it's just the tripod legs. "B" stands for ball head, so if the name ends in "B" you get the tripod legs and the a ball head. "P" stands for pistol-grip head. The first letter stands for the name of the material: "A" for aluminum, "C" for carbon fiber. So if the model number is 263AB, it means that it's the aluminum tripod legs plus a ball head.
Question: Is there any difference between the 263AB and 264AB? I'm not really seeing any difference
Answer: Vanguard Alta Pro 263AB is both taller and larger than the 264AB. Both are virtually identical in weight, and have identical 7.0kg load capacities.I own both, the 263AB is a full-size (height-wise) tripod, while the 264AB is subtly more compact, which is noticeable when you set them up side-by-side. If you are of average height you may find you do not need to extend the center column with the 263AB very often, while you will probably need to extend the center column on the shorter 264AB most of the time. This technically affects stability, but the ~4" of extension is generally not significant for casual use. A big difference for me is that the 264AB will fit inside almost all airline carry-on bags I use (with the ball head removed), whereas the 264AB usually does not fit (at least in bags that are regulation size...).* 3-segment legs vs. 4-segment legs* 1730mm (68.125") extended height vs. 1625mm (64") extended height* 1425mm (56.125") minimum extended height vs. 1390mm (54.75") minimum extended height* 715mm (28.125") folded height vs. 625mm (24.625") folded heighthttp://www.vanguardworld.com/index.php/pv/products/detail-1-4-225-623.htmlhttp://www.vanguardworld.com/index.php/en/pv/products/detail-1-4-225-622.html

User questions & answers

Question: This does not appear to be a true "Ball Head." It appears that you have to swivel the apparatus around in order to achieve complete coverage
Answer: Yes, this DAC can
Question: Can you change the ball head on this
Answer: Hi, it's also a standard line/auxiliary out. Thank you.
Question: What is the smallest it can be folded to fit into a backpack
Answer: I use this to switch between my Rotel Power amp (130 Watt RMS X 2) and a Vintage JVC Quadraphonic Receiver. (100 X 2 or 43 X 4) to switch the same set of front speakers for both. In the 6 months having done this, the sound is right on and no difference in quality. I do think the 100 watt rating is conservative, since I have no problems with 130 watt RMS on the one amp. I am very happy with this unit.
Question: What is the difference between the 60" and 62" that the 60" is more costly
Answer: No. Your preamp connects to your amp with RCA cables (or XLR) and this unit switches using the speaker wire outputs off of an amp.
