Answer:	I have not found a way to collapse them without pulling out the rods. That is the only draw back to those particular soft boxes. They are small enough that transporting them is a not a huge problem if needed. I use large umbrellas and a diffusing cover so it's not a big issue with me. They are a nice bonus. The lights work beautifully.

My family has used it topically with no problems, however we have had burning reactions to Christmas Spirit blend from YL that was applied topically and has lots of cinnamon in it. That's my best guess!
