14 best flash triggers
Flash triggers are devices used in photography and studio lighting to remotely activate and synchronize flash units or strobes with a camera. They play a crucial role in achieving precise and synchronized lighting setups. Flash triggers come in various types and technologies, including:
Wireless Radio Triggers: These are the most common type of flash triggers and use radio waves to communicate between the camera and the flash units. They provide a reliable and stable connection, often with a range of several hundred feet. Wireless radio triggers are known for their versatility and can work in various environments.
Infrared (IR) Triggers: Infrared triggers use infrared signals to trigger the flash units. They are less common nowadays due to their limitations in range and the need for a direct line of sight between the transmitter and the receiver.
Optical Slaves: Optical slaves are simple trigger devices that use light pulses to trigger remote flashes. When they detect a burst of light (usually from the built-in flash of a camera), they trigger the attached flash unit. Optical slaves are less reliable in bright daylight and require a clear line of sight between the transmitter and the receiver.
Sync Cables: These are physical cables that connect the camera to the flash unit. They are less popular today due to the inconvenience of managing cables, but they are still used in certain studio setups where precise synchronization is crucial.
TTL (Through-The-Lens) Triggers: TTL triggers work with cameras that support TTL metering. They communicate exposure information between the camera and the flash unit, allowing for automatic flash exposure adjustments. TTL triggers can be especially useful in fast-paced shooting scenarios.
High-Speed Sync (HSS) Triggers: HSS triggers enable photographers to use faster shutter speeds with flash, beyond the camera's maximum sync speed. This is beneficial for capturing action or using wide apertures in bright conditions.
Multi-Channel and Group Control: Many modern flash triggers offer multiple channels and group control options. This allows photographers to control different groups of flash units independently, making it easier to set up complex lighting schemes.
When choosing flash triggers, photographers need to consider factors such as compatibility with their camera and flash units, range, reliability, and additional features like high-speed sync and TTL support. The choice of flash trigger depends on the specific requirements of the photography project and the equipment being used.
Overall, flash triggers are essential tools for achieving creative and precise lighting effects in photography and studio setups, helping photographers unleash their creativity and capture stunning images.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this support HSS |
Answer: | Yep. This is one of those, 'you got one job' devices, that should universally work with virtually every camera system there is. |
Question: | Works with Canon 5dmkiv |
Answer: | Unfortunately this Wireless Flash Trigger is unreliable. I purchased one, it failed completely after working intermittently for a few photo shoots. Frustrating experience. The seller sent a second one, which did not work at all. Consider investing in a higher grade name brand trigger. In my opinion there is nothing worse than a flash failing at a critical moment resulting in a missed photo that cannot be recreated. |
Question: | Can the transmitter work as a shutter release button while Simultaneously fire off multiple flashes on the receivers |
Answer: | Yes, works with standard hot shoe |
Question: | Is the battery on the transceiver replaceable |
Answer: | Tranmitter sits on the camera’s hot shoe. See if this one fit for your speedlight: https://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Wireless-Speedlite-Receiver-Universal/dp/B00A47U22U |

Question: | Will this work on the sony a |
Answer: | si. trabajara muy bien sincronizada. |
Question: | hey..... do these work with d300s? can it trigger the shutter for d300s |
Answer: | It's a while ago, but I think I have the same question. I want to trigger my camera remotely, and have a remote flash. I put a receiver on camera and flash, have the transmitter in hand. If I fire, the camera shutter triggers AND the flash fires immediately, NOT controlled by the camera. So I guess you need one transmitter in your hand and a receiver on the camera on one channel, a SECOND transmitter on the camera and a receiver at the flash (if it doesn't have a built in) on another channel. That way the flash is controlled/triggered by the camera, while I trigger the camera remotely. To do otherwise, you would need a transceiver with 2 circuits on the camera. There was an answer to that at dpreview website as well |
