User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone compared this to the Sigma 50-500mm? I like that this Tamron goes wider but am wondering how sharp it is
Answer: The Sigma 50-500mm is about three times as heavy - 4.34 lbs vs. 1.56 lbs. I can't speak to the sharpness differences but I suspect one could find reviews and/or comparisons on the web which have metrics and/or sample images.
Question: Will this Work on my canon t2i
Answer: I have emailed Tamron directly and this is the answer I received today, "The 18-400mm is compatible with the T2i and should not give you any issue." I also have the T2i.
Question: The heading says this is an ef lens but the writeup says it is for apsc. is this an ef lens or an ef-s lens
Answer: After doing research on this, I found the answer for you. This is a "Crop" sensor lens. The APS-C is crop that is the C. If you shoot on a full sensor lens and using a Canon, then you will have vignetting (a black circle) on the edge of your photo. The mount is an EF mount so it will work with EF and EF-S mounts which is the xD and xxD series cameras e.g. 5D, 80D. All of this information was confirmed with Tamron before replying here.
Question: will the lens work with Nikon D
Answer: It should. The D7100 is a DX format (1.5 crop factor) which is the same as my D7500. And it works with that.

Product description

Experience the complete joy of shooting with a compact, ultra-wide-angle zoom

This ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for APS-C DSLR cameras offers the finest of all Tamron worlds: best-in-class* 10-24mm focal length range (the 35mm equivalent of 16-37mm), the compact size of our previous SP AF10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II LD Aspherical [IF] (Model B001), plus vastly improved optical performance. It also includes state-of-the-art Tamron technology like VC (Vibration Compensation), a new HLD (High/Low torque-modulated Drive), Fluorine Coating, and Moisture-Resistant Construction. Combine this with exceptional resolution on everything from detailed landscapes to casual snapshots and you have a next-generation, wide-angle zoom that’s ready to go wherever your photographic vision takes you.

Excellent optical performance across the entire zoom range

The optical design includes 16 elements in 11 groups. A new large aperture aspherical lens and LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements deliver exceptional resolution across the complete zoom range— combined with stable imaging across the entire frame. The lens also corrects comatic and transverse chromatic aberration, as well as distortion that often crops up on other wide-angle lenses. Together with Tamron’s unique BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating, which improves light transmission and suppresses reflection and dispersion on the lens surface, this new ultra-wide-angle zoom has been entirely reimagined to control flare and ghosting. The result: clear, crisp images, every time.

VC lets you go wherever your vision takes you

Tamron’s unique VC (Vibration Compensation) technology makes it easy to enjoy handheld, wide-angle shooting, even in low-light environments such as evening and indoors. While maintaining the compact design of our previous Model B001, Tamron has optimized the actuator and control algorithm in order to incorporate VC into our new Model B023. Now you can unleash the power of high quality imaging, without worrying about your images being spoiled by the jittery effects of handheld shooting.

HLD meets highly precise AF

With this lens, Tamron introduces the HLD (High/Low torque-modulated Drive) AF drive system. The excellent driving power of the all-new HLD enables stable and precise focusing, even with the large focusing lens elements used on Model B023. What’s more, the Full-time Manual Focus override allows you to make fine adjustments—without having to switch from AF to MF mode.

High performance packed into a compact body

A shortened overall length vastly improves optical performance while maintaining a compact size—even with advancements such as VC and the newly developed HLD. When combined with an APS-C DSLR camera, this lens packs a world of performance into a lightweight, portable body.

  • Minimum Object Distance:9.4 inches
  • Angle of View (diagonal) - 108°44'-60°2'(for APS-C format)

User questions & answers

Question: Does this autofocus on Nikon d
Answer: I think all nikon s l r lens fit.best thing to do is go online and type in question if it works
Question: Does it autofocus on Nikon d
Answer: I had it on D3400 and it was Uber slow. When I went back to read, it isn't really good with autofocus. I wanted to use for sports and almost all of my shots were blurry so I went back to my 55-200 lens. The crisp ones I got, I did love the 70-300. I returned it.
Question: does it auto focus on a D
Answer: It does on my d3300
Question: Does it work with D
Answer: Works great on my D3200. Pictures for the most part are sharp and clear. I sometimes use a tripod for better pics in the 200mm to 300mm range.

User questions & answers

Question: How good is this lens when taking video
Answer: I am using on a Nikon 5500. The problem I have with video is that the zoom ring on the lens is so stiff that if I try to zoom in or out while filming a video, it is sometimes enough stress on the camera/lens connection that the lens briefly disconnects from the camera's sensor/electronics, and "live mode" is canceled, ending the video. I have to be careful to hold the base of the lens if I want to zoom in or out while filming.
Question: Can this Tamron 18-400mm lens be used with the Nikon D
Answer: Yes it can work or on D7000
Question: Does this work with Nikon D
Answer: According to reviews the D7500 Camera is a APS-C Digital SLR Camera. If so the new Tamron 18-400 is compatible with the D7500.
Question: Can it be used on Nikon d5100 and d
Answer: Yes perfectly

In 1992, all-in-one zoom lenses were known for their heavy weight, bulky size and mediocre performance. Tamron revolutionized the industry by creating a lightweight, compact, high-performance “all-in-one zoom lens” that was perfect for everyday use. It launched to worldwide acclaim, cementing Tamron’s role as a pioneer in the “all-in-one zoom lens” category. Whereas the zoom magnification was 7.1x in 1992, it has increased to 22.2x for the Model B028 which is the world’s first* to achieve 400mm at the telephoto end. With its advanced optical system, compact lens barrel, high-precision cam configurations and VC, the B028 introduces the next level of Tamron innovation: the “ultra-telephoto all-in-one zoom lens.”

Product description

Capture the power and beauty of wildlife, birds, travel destinations, and exciting sports action close-ups with this high-performance 150-600mm long-range zoom. VC (Vibration Compensation) and USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) enable you to shoot crisp images of fast-moving, distant subjects handheld, while proprietary Tamron optical technology, including eBAND Coating, works to suppress flare and ghosting for impressively clear, vibrant images. Three LD (Low Dispersion) elements are effectively deployed to correct chromatic aberrations, a challenging problem when shooting at long distances and at long focal-length settings. Tamron's eBAND Coating and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating help suppress flare and ghosting for class-leading image quality.VC (Vibration Compensation) is Tamron's proprietary image stabilization system. Tamron's VC is a three-coil system, whereby three driving coils activate the shake-compensating VC lens group electromagnetically via three ceramic ball bearings. The quiet high-torque USD motor ensures a speedy and accurate autofocus response. This new coating technique developed by Tamron deploys a Nano-structured layer (1 nm = 1/1,000,000mm) of ultra-low refractive index, with dimensions smaller than the wavelengths of visible rays of light. This Nano-structured layer coupled with the sophisticated multiple layer coatings underneath, yields significant anti-reflection properties, efficiently reducing undesired flare and ghosting to an absolute minimum to deliver sharp, crisp images. While covering a very wide range of focal lengths, this lens is remarkably compact and accepts 95mm filters. Its stylish design with signature Tamron tungsten silver finish and elegant brand ring incorporates a sturdy tripod mount to enhance both stability and ease of use. Moisture-resistant construction helps prevent moisture from penetrating the lens. User questions & answers

Question: Does this lens come with a carrying case? A review I saw had one but no indication on the details
Answer: I had two Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD lenses, one for Canon and one for Nikon, both came in with plastic case. I enjoyed both lenses with Auto shots.
Question: How does this lens stack up at 600mm vs the Canon 400mm/1.4x = 560mm
Answer: That all depends on which Canon 400mm one is talking about: The 400mm f/5.6 or the 400mm f/2.8 (any version: non-IS, IS, or IS II) which takes a 1.4X extender extremely well. The 400mm f/4 DO (original or II) also takes a 1.4X extender fairly well. The EF 400mm f/5.6 + 1.4X extender will be a 560mm f/8 lens with which some, but not all, Canon cameras will not AF. The 1D X, 1D X Mark II, 5D Mark III, 5D Mark IV, and 7D mark II will still allow AF , at least with the center AF point, at f/8.
Question: What is the filter thread dia. size, UV-Polarizer? J R Massachusetts USA
Answer: 95mm filter size. Do remember that this lens is f/5 up to about 170mm and at 420mm is already f/6.3 so it's not "fast" if you're considering using filters not light-friendly.Cheers.
Question: Do Tamron lenses from this seller come with FULL quality guarantees
Answer: Yes. Beach Camera is an authorized dealer under contract to Tamron USA and this lens will have the full 6 year limited warranty. You can confirm this for yourself at the Tamron USA site (they have a user-friendly dealer search engine which lists this vendor's two locations in NJ). Authorized dealers for Tamron (and other manufacturers) typically are constrained by contract to what is called a Minimum Advertised Price (or MAP) -- this vendor is offering the product at the exact same price as B&H and Ritz, also authorized dealers, so this is probably priced at the MAP. Anyone offering the lens for less (typically at a $100-$200 discount) is selling a gray market product and Tamron USA will NOT warranty that lens.

User questions & answers

Question: I am thinking to sell my Nikon´s 16-85mm to buy this lens, but I wonder if this lens worths the change (not only in terms of focal range but also in IQ
Answer: It depends on what you use the lens for. The Tamron will give you a much larger zoom range in a very lightweight lens. But the Nikon will give you better performance over the 16-85mm range. If you mostly use the 16-85 range or make enlargements you may be better off keeping the Nikon. If you want to take more telephoto images and don't need the sharpest possible images and don't shoot a lot in low light you will probably enjoy the Tamron.
Question: Is this lens a candidate for the Tamaron rebate
Answer: When I purchased mine, I did get the rebate. But that was 2 years ago.
Question: can someone tell me the pro's & con's of this lens
Answer: It has far more pros than cons. The range 16-300 makes it a good all purpose walk around lens. Its image stabilization is good. I have captured a clear hand-held picture zoomed to max of a squirrel in tree-top and it does very well an lesser zooms. I am very happy with the lens. The only other lens I use, and rarely, is a prime 50mm for carefully composed flower shots and the addition of macro rings. The downside is that the Tamron weighs close to a pound which added to my Canon 80D means I am walking around with about two pounds, and more if I add a flash. My solution to that is a side mounted strap. I spent two days in NYC, walking, streets, subways, etc, with it on a side strap and barely noticed it. Another downside is that the f-stop range narrows the more you zoom out, but that is to be expected with a lower priced zoom. I find the benefits far more important than the negatives and I like the lens very much. One caveat: if you plan to order it for a Canon 80D you might need to send the lens in to Tamron for a firmware update. I bought the lens for a 70D and when I upgraded to 80D the lens would freeze up the 80D. Tamron's website recognizes that problem and they do a free firmware update with proof of purchase, and their turnaround was quick.
Question: is it heavy
Answer: It's moderately heavy but over all I'm pleased.

Product description

Designed for optimum handling ease and portability (it weighs only 458g <16.2oz.> ), it’s ideal for handheld shooting with full-frame and APS-C format SLRs. Its unsurpassed close-focusing ability (down to 0.95m (3.1 feet ) or 1:2 in macro mode) makes it perfect for nature and portrait photography.

AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens Features

Low Dispersion (LD) Glass for Greater Lens Sharpness

Low dispersion (LD) glass elements in a lens help reduce chromatic aberration; the tendency of light of different colors to come to different points of focus at the image plane. Chromatic aberration reduces the sharpness of an image, but glass with an extremely low dispersion index, has less of a tendency to separate (defract) a ray of light into a rainbow of colors. This characteristic allows the lens designer to effectively compensate for chromatic aberration at the center of the field (on axis), a particular problem at long focal lengths (the telephoto end of the zoom range), and for lateral chromatic aberration (towards the edges of the field) that often occurs at short focal lengths (the wide-angle end of the zoom range.)"

  • The popular Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4.5-5.6 Di LD Macro features a built in motor to ensure fast accurate focusing
  • Close-focusing ability - 0.95m (3.1 feet ), focal lengths between 180 and 300mm. Compatible with the d40, d40x and d60 in the mf mode due to the fact it does not have a built in motor
  • This telephoto zoom will crop in tight or bring distant subjects in close. Angle of view: 34-8
  • There is also an incredible macro mode for photographing small objects up close giving a magnification ratio of 1:2
  • This phenomenal lens comes with a 6 year warranty. Lens hood included for maximum glare protection and increased contrast

User questions & answers

Question: Hey All!! can anyone tell me what size UV Polarizer/ lens cap the Tamron 70-300mm DI- 5.6 ?? lens for nikon uses, thanks ,,J .R. Massachusetts
Answer: This lens uses a 62 mm diameter filter and requires a "circular polarizer" which is different from the ones used for film cameras.
Question: Can I use this lens for portrait photography
Answer: Yes, you can. Technically you can take a portrait with any lens. Normally you want a focal length greater than 50mm so that you don't get distortion. This lens is not sharp and you can't crop the picture so make sure that you frame the person as you want. The bokeh is not really good, but this isn't a quality lens to begin with. I recommended that people either buy the Canon 55-250 or save up for an L quality (if you are a Canon shooter). I found that the quality of pics with this lens to be useless - maybe a 5% keeper rate. Good luck with whatever your decide.
Question: will this lens work on my d
Answer: Yes this lens is excellent for the Nikon body D3200 I have one myself and getting great shots with this past christmas and I photographed someones Cat then put the pictures on iMovie in apple software the photos were fantastic. I enjoy this lens.
Question: How does this lense work taking macro photos. I would like to take close up pictures of coins, will this work
Answer: Hello Michael! I have one and it works very good. You'll be able to take coins with no issues. The glass has been working fine with me for more that 2 years. However, have a look to the extension tubes perhaps is easier and cheaper to you to add an extension to your 50mm and take closer pictures to your coins. The other option is the Tamron 90mm, that is real 1:1 (I own it and it is much better than this 70-300, but more expensive) Finally, you could choose the "Magnification glass", that is good and cheap (Not as good as a macro, but very good in general) I hope this helps to you!

Setting the Standard for Lightweight Long-Range Zooms

Compact top tele-zoom lens with macro 1:2 function. A high mechanical quality combined with excellent optical qualities are the characteristic features of this telephoto lens. This Di lens can be used on a digital APS-C sized or full frame camera. This lens ideally complements standard kit lenses.

A 'Macro Switchover' mechanism allows a minimum focus distance of 0.95m within the focal length range of 180-300mm. You can fill the entire frame with subjects of apx. 5 x 7cm size, at a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2, ideal for capturing images of flowers, insects and objects of similar size.

The designation 'Di' (Digitally Integrated Design) marks a generation of lenses, which have been specially adapted to the higher requirements of digital SLR cameras (APS-C and full frame).

Tamron

Based on 65 reviews Check latest price

  • VC (Vibration Compensation)
  • HLD (High/Low torque-modulated Drive)
  • Moisture-resistant construction
  • Fluorine coating repels water and oil from the lens surface
  • Electromagnetic diaphragm system

User questions & answers

Question: Does it include lens cap and lens hood
Answer: Yes definitely it includes the lens hood, and front and rear caps all tamron original. It also comes with the original retails box. Thanks
Question: does this fit on a Nikon d
Answer: Yes. It’s will fit any F mount (Nikon). It would technically work on most Nikons, but would vignette on full frame. This is a nice lens and should serve you well with a D7500.
Question: Is this fully compatible with a Nikon d
Answer: Yes, it's fully compatible with the D5600 and all cropped sensor Nikon DSLR's
Question: will this work wth nikon d
Answer: The D90 uses mechanical aperture control. This lens like the newer Nikon AF-P lenses uses an electronic aperture control. This lens does not have a manual aperture control ring, so it would be deemed not compatible with the older bodies. I can not say if it would have no aperture control or if it would generate an error and be completely inoperative. The B001 model of this lens is older and will likely work fine on the older bodies.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this a good lens for sports photography? If so will it fit a Nikon d
Answer: It has a standard Nikon mount so it should fit any Nikon SLR. It has a good zoom range for sports and should work OK if the lighting is good. The minimum f stop is about 5.6 depending on zoom, so it will not work for action shots in low-light situations. For max zoom (600), I generally try to shoot at 1/1000 or faster if I am hand holding. I have had good results with birds at that range on bright days.
Question: Is it compatible with the canon t6i? the description lists the t6 and t6s but doesn’t mention t6i specifically
Answer: This lens will work on ANY Canon Rebel camera, including the T6i. All EOS cameras have the same lens mounting system.
Question: Does this bundle really come with the tripod collar and a tap-in console
Answer: YES, collar packed with lens and Tap-in console in small box.
Question: Why at 500-600mm on the tipod are the images soft no crispness
Answer: 1. Make sure your tripod and tripod head are robust enough to handle the weight. 2. Make sure your tripod is standing on solid ground or concrete -- do not place it on anything that vibrates. 3. Turn OFF image stabilization on the lens and the camera. You don't need it when using a tripod. 4. Put your lens hood on. It helps keep stray light from bouncing around in your lens. 5. Attach a remote shutter release. 6. Configure your camera to use Mirror Lock-up mode, if possible. This will reduce vibrations from the mirror. 7. If possible, configure your camera to use exposure-delay mode. This will also help reduce vibrations. 8. Choose an aperture that will have minimum diffraction. If you don't know what diffraction is, look it up or just try to keep your aperture larger than f11 (smaller f-number) 9. Engage live-view mode if you have it. 10. Focus, verify focus, and then switch to manual focus so that the AF doesn't try to make any changes when you're not looking. The art of focusing is too complex to go into here. Suffice it to say that you need to select a combination of camera settings that provide sufficient depth of field and focus. An internet search on focusing techniques will provide you with more reading material than you ever wanted. Get into some web-forum arguments about hyperfocal distances...have fun. 11. Wait for the decisive moment. 12. Release the shutter using the remote shutter release. 13. Check to see why your camera made that beeping sound. 14. Swear because you forgot to put in the *&%$#! memory card. 15. Start over.

Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 DI-II VC HLD All-In-One Zoom For Nikon APS-C Digital SLR Cameras (Renewed)

Tamron

Based on 21 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The world's first 400mm ultra-telephoto all-in-one zoom lens

The new Model B028 is the world's first lens for APS-C DSLR cameras that covers a focal length range of 18-400mm and achieves a zoom ratio of 22.2x. The focal length of 400mm on the telephoto end enables the capturing of ultra-telephoto pictures with the 35mm equivalent of 620mm angle of view. Now a photographer can readily enjoy the power of ultra-telephoto to bring distant subjects closer as well as the perspective-flattening effects that only extreme telephoto settings can achieve. It allows a photographer to switch from wide-angle to ultra-telephoto without changing lenses, making it faster and easier to capture a much wider range of subjects including travel scenes, wildlife, action sports, landscapes, cityscapes, portraits and food.

Excellent image quality across the entire zoom range

The optical construction of the B028 consists of 16 lens elements in 11 groups. The use of specialized glass elements such as LD (Low Dispersion) and aspherical lens elements effectively minimizes wide-ranging aberrations, including chromatic aberrations and distortion, thereby assuring outstanding image quality. Optimum power distribution among the individual lens element groups achieves both the optical performance and the compact size necessary for an ultra-telephoto all-in-one zoom lens that boasts 400mm focal length. Also, it enables tele-macro photography with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.9.

Lightweight and compact design

Despite being an all-in-one zoom lens that achieves 400mm ultra-telephoto, Model B028 is light and compact with a total length of 4.8in. and a weight of 24.9oz. A new lens barrel design utilizing three-step extensions was developed to enable the necessary elongation to produce a 22.2x zoom ratio. Compared to the conventional approach, the division into a larger number of cams ensures comfortable operation and stability while zooming.
