It’s ideal for a wide variety of photos, including snapshots while strolling, night shots (thanks to the bright maximum aperture) and portraits with superb background/foreground blur. When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the light sources appear blurred. This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing polygonal shaped defocussed points of light. α lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result. As focal lengths get longer, lenses built with conventional optical glass have difficulties with chromatic aberration, and as a result images suffer from lower contrast, lower color quality, and lower resolution. ED glass dramatically reduces chromatic aberration at telephoto ranges, and provides superior contrast across the entire image, even at large aperture settings. Super ED glass provides enhanced compensation for chromatic aberration. Aspherical lens design dramatically reduces spherical aberration while also reducing lens size and weight. Spherical aberration is a slight misalignment of the light rays projected on the image plane. This is caused by differences in refraction at different points on conventional spherical lenses which degrade image quality in large-aperture lenses. Specially shaped “aspherical” elements near the diaphragm restore alignment of light rays at the image plane, maintaining high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and can also be used at other points in the optical path to reduce distortion. Well-designed aspherical elements can reduce the total number of elements required in the lens, thus reducing overall size and weight. Advanced Aspherical (AA) elements are an evolved variant, featuring an extremely high thickness ratio between the center and periphery. AA elements are exceedingly difficult to produce, relying on the most advanced molding technology to consistently and precisely achieve the required shape and surface accuracy, resulting in significantly improved image accuracy and quality. Gyro sensors built into the lens detect even the slightest movement, and the stabilization lens is precisely shifted to counteract any image blur that might occur. The use of precision, quiet linear motors and technology inherited from high-end Sony professional camcorders results in exceptionally quiet, effective image stabilization that contributes to high-quality movies as well as stills. Only the middle groups of the optical system move to achieve focus, so the overall length of the lens does not change. Other important benefits include fast autofocusing and a short minimum focusing distance. Also, the filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is convenient if you’re using a polarizing filter. 2012 Sony Electronics All rights reserved. User questions & answers
Question: | How does this compare to the G master counter-part? I've heard conflicting things |
Answer: | It comes with a lens cap, soft draw-string case, and a high-quality petal-style hood. Very nice. BTW, best lens I've ever owned...by far. |
Question: | Is this the sony 85mm f1.8 fe lens as shown in the picture |
Answer: | This is a prime 55mm lens it doesn't zoom. It is a fixed focal length. It is 55mm on the full farm A7 & A7R and the equivalent of approximately an 82mm on an APS-C sensor camera. |
Question: | Why there are 2 models? If they are the same lens, why one is currently unavailable and the other is in stock |
Answer: | It says on box "made in Thailand". This is my second Zeiss. I still own the SEL24F18, both are built to extremely high standard, no flex at all. The only sub par component of the older Zeiss was the petal hood that fell apart in less than a year, I had to superglue it back together. The older lens has seen hell and still going strong after 3 years of heavy use. I tell you all this cos I was worried too, but when you see the images you get from the lens, wow! Also, unlike the other E mount Zeiss, I have not read about a single bad copy of the lens. Hope this helps |
Question: | Is this a legitimate lens |
Answer: | In general, don't use the clear UV filter with this lens. It will degrade the image quality. If you care so little about the image quality, you should not get this lens. Get the SEL50F18F and save hundreds of dollars. If you must use an UV filter, do not use the cheap Tiffen UV filter offered in a bundle. Use a Heliopan, or a Zeiss, or at the very least a B&W. |
Question: | what is in the box? does it come with lens hood |
Answer: | This will FIT on any e-mount camera, a6000, a6300, a5100, NEX, and ALL of the A7 (full frame) variants. BUT on an A7 it will either shoot in APS-C mode (using the same size area on the full frame sensor as an APS-C camera (a5xxx/a6xxx/NEX) and produce a lower resolution than the normal photo on the full-frame setting. You can shoot on the full-frame sensor setting on an A7(r/ii etc.) but you will see vignetting. |
Question: | How far does this lens zoom. I saw 14x but is that correct |
Answer: | Hi E40, Due to the crop factor, it will be multiplied to 1.5x. The angle of view of the 10-18mm lens will be equivalent to 15-27mm if mounted on your camera. -Anthony |
Question: | Where was the lense assembled? Japan or Thailand |
Answer: | Ignore the replies from G.Dudgeon, S.Erickson, and E.Daniels. The ILCE-3000 is an E-mount camera body, so yes, this lens will work perfectly with it because it is E-mount. And it is a great lens. |
Question: | Beginner question, is it best to use a clear filter to protect this lens or will it affect the quality at all |
Answer: | Assuming that you're using one of the NEX cameras, I don't think there's a 12mm prime available without using an adapter. That aside, 10-18mm would be more flexible than a fixed lens, and for landscapes, f/4 should be plenty fast. The 10-18 is a nice lens. Hope this helps. Dave |
Question: | Does this lens work with Sony a7? Is it for APS C format hence on Sony a7 there is a crop factor |
Answer: | Hello. Lenses with f/2.8 let in more light compared to an f/4 lens so shutter speeds can be set faster as well as ISO values set lower for the same exposure. Also, the f/2.8 lens will have more bokeh when shot at the widest aperture compared to f/4. |
Question: | What does "The angle of view will be narrower down to that of APS-C size" mean? This is on the A6000 lens compat page |
Answer: | This F2.8 lense is better. Lower fstop and good in low light. No distortion. |
Question: | Can I use this len in my Sony Alpha 3000 (ILCE3000)?, I want to buy it but if this doesnt work on my camera i dont waste my money |
Answer: | At 16mm there is no fisheye, I sometimes shoot group photos at 16mm. But at 35mm it’s a wide angle shot which has the fish eye look. This lens is an amazing lens with lots of versatility. |
Question: | Would this be a better choice for landscape than the 12mm Zeiss prime |
Answer: | If you have to ask that question, you probably shouldn't be looking into getting a $2100 dollar lens. Get a kit lens. 24-105 or 24-70 |

User questions & answers
Question: | Amazon wants me to wait for another 8 weeks on top of the 8 weeks (from 01/09/19) that they have previously estimated, any ideas what is the hold up |
Answer: | This is an APS-C Lens. It will work without adapter, but will need to be in APS-C/Super 35 mode |
Question: | What would the focal length be if I were to use this on the Sony a |
Answer: | You need to read tripod specs to find the camera + lens weight the tripod can support. The Sony A6500 with A70-350 lens is under 3 pounds. Most, if not all, tripods can hold that weight. However, you need to consider many other factors when chooging a tripod. You might want to google how to choose a tripod/head. You need to look at load capacity, height, weight, folded length, ball heads, graphite, carbon fiber or aluminum, type of leg locks, pan & tilt range, with or without center column, your budget, etc.. Depending on what kinds of conditions or subjects you shoot, some of these factors may not be at all important to you. But you don't want to pay extra for features you don't want or need. I probably use a tripod less than 5% of the time. I don't do landscape and If I eliminated the few times a year that I shoot night skies or do light painting, I would not need or use a tripod. |
Question: | Hey guys , can some of you tell us when you placed the order and how long you have waited , want to eyeball when ill get mine . Placed an order Jan |
Answer: | Hi, no it will not. |
Question: | Any experience comparing this with the Zeiss Batis |
Answer: | Hello. The Sony 70-350mm F4.5-6.3 G Lens is compatible with the Sony a6600. Filter diameter is 67mm. |

Sony Alpha Full-frame E-mount Wide Prime G Master Lens
The 24mm F1.4 GM features an advanced optical design, including two XA (Extreme Aspherical) elements and three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements that delivering outstanding corner-to-corner resolution, even at a wide F1.4 aperture. An 11-blade circular aperture mechanism creates beautiful bokeh that is a hallmark of the G Master series. Fast focusing is attained through the DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) focus drive system. This lens sports class-leading size and weight, providing great handling and mobility.
Compact G Master wide prime lens w/ stunning wide-open resolution
The FE 24mm F1.4 GM realizes consistently high resolution across the entire frame and delivers soft and natural bokeh - a signature feature of Sony’s G Master lens series. It also boasts a new optical design comprised of 10 groups with 13 elements, including two XA (extreme aspherical) and three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements. The incorporation of two XA elements ensures that point light sources can be accurately reproduced, making the FE 24mm F1.4 GM a compelling proposition for astrophotography. For impressive clarity, Sony’s unique Nano AR Coating is applied to reduce lens flare and ghosting, even in landscape shots where the position of the sun can be problematic with a normal lens.
F1.4 max aperture
The F1.4 max aperture maintains exposure and depth of field, allowing you to isolate your subject from the foreground and background with amazing light gathering capabilities when shooting wide open. When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the areas out of the focal plane appear blurred. This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background is enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens.
11-blade circular aperture contributes to gorgeous bokeh
The 11-blade circular aperture maximizes the beauty of this large-aperture prime-lens, contributing to impressive images in which the subject stands out against a smoothly defocused foreground and background, as well as perfectly round points of defocused light. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides that create unappealing, polygonal-shaped defocused points of light. α lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.
Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM) for fast, quiet, precise focusing
The 24mm F1.4 GM lens supports hybrid autofocus for both contrast and focal-plane phase detection AF. It has a high-precision Direct Drive Super Sonic Motor (DDSSM) system that ensures exceptionally fast, quiet and accurate AF performance. The precision internal focus mechanism aids in AF speed by moving only the middle groups of the optical system and effectively minimizing focus breathing, while keeping the lens size compact and lightweight. In addition to being the ideal wide prime lens for stills, it is also exceptionally suited for video with a linear motor that takes on the vital role of ‘wobbling’ to providing high-speed actuation for the contrast AF detection system, for smooth, continuous AF.
Two XA (Extreme Aspherical) lens element
The 24mm F1.4 GM employs two XA (Extreme Aspherical) lens element, one of which is the front lens. This large-diameter front XA lens element features a new optical design, maximizing the advantages of the short mirrorless camera flange distance, and effectively suppresses various aberrations, especially the peripheral area in the frame and sagittal flare. Two XA elements compensate for coma, field curvature, and astigmatism that can be problems with wide-angle large-aperture optics. This also contributes to the compact and lightweight design.
Nano AR coating suppresses reflections, flare and ghosting
Sony’s original Nano AR Coating technology minimizes flare and ghosting, for dynamic range that achieves lifelike detail and gradation with advanced camera sensors. This precisely defined regular nano-structure allows accurate light transmission, contributing to high-quality images, even more so than with lenses that use coatings with an irregular nano-structure. The reflection suppression characteristic of the Nano AR Coating is superior to conventional anti-reflective coatings, providing a notable improvement in clarity, contrast, and overall image quality.
Compact, lightweight design
This remarkably compact and lightweight lens weighs in at only 15.7oz (445g) with smallest in class dimensions of 3” (75.4mm) diameter and 3-3/4” (92.4mm) in length. It’s compact, lightweight design enhances portability and mobility thanks to the combination of optical design utilizing two XA elements and the newly developed DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) AF system.
Manual aperture ring w/ selectable on/off click for stills or movie
A responsive manual aperture ring offers positive action that will satisfy professional photographers and moviemakers alike. The aperture ring click stops can be switched on or off as required. “Off” is the preferred setting for moviemaking since it results in the least aperture operation noise. When “On” the ring provides tactile feedback that is useful when shooting stills.
Focus hold button, programmable for multiple functions
The focus hold button not only performs its primary function to lock focus when recomposing, but can be customized to a number of other functions depending on your needs. In addition to Focus Hold, these custom functions include: Eye AF, AF On, Aperture Preview, Shot Result Preview or Bright Monitoring.
Dust and moisture resistant for robust reliability
The dust and moisture resistance design makes this lens appropriate for heavy-duty outdoor use, especially when combined with a camera that employs weather resistant measures.
Astrophotography Sagittal flare suppression
Sagittal flare is a phenomenon that results in an unnatural spreading of point light sources that appears somewhat like a bird spreading its wings and becomes more pronounced towards the image periphery. It is most common in large-aperture lenses. The 24mm F1.4 GM incorporates a new optical design, including two XA lens elements, to effectively suppress and correct for sagittal flare, making this lens ideal for night sky and astrophotography.

User questions & answers
Question: | There is a firmware update for the sony a6300 and a6500 that provides support for this lens. will the a6000 work with this lens with no update (yet |
Answer: | yes, firmware version 1.05 provides support for the 18-135mm lens. |
Question: | Can you use it on a Sony a7lll |
Answer: | Yes, it is a compatible lens. Please be advised however that this is an aps-c lens will not cover the entire full frame sensor of the ILCE7M3. |
Question: | Does this lens increase in length when zoomed |
Answer: | Yes, unlike the internal zoom and focused SELP18105, the SEL18135 extends when zoomed out. |
Question: | Why would I’ll take this over the const f4 18-105? It’s the same size, almost the same focal and with non constant aperture |
Answer: | I have the 18-105 and it is a great lens for what it is. The zoom is slow, which is fine for video since the zoom frames may be edited out. But the power zoom is too slow for shooting action, and doing it manually isn't that fast either. I've held the 18-135 with an a6300 and it is a nice size for a walk-around lens, and it compacts nicely. But the quality will be lower than the 18-105. |

Sony 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS APS-C E-mount Zoom Lens
With a versatile 18-135mm (27-202.5mm / 35mm equivalent) range, Optical SteadyShot Image stabilization and fast, precise, quiet AF, this compact and lightweight zoom for APS-C E-mount cameras produces excellent corner-to-corner sharpness and beautiful defocused bokeh to a variety of still and movie applications.
7.5x high magnification zoom
A versatile 7.5x high magnification zoom APS-C lens featuring an 18-135mm / 27-202.5mm (35mm equivalent) focal length, F3.5-5.6 aperture range and Optical SteadyShot image stabilization can cover a broad spectrum of subjects and situations, including scenery, portraits, nature, and general day-to-day photography.
Advanced Aspherical optical design
An aspherical element helps suppress aberrations, achieving impressively high resolution, sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and ultra-wide angles while reducing the total number of elements required in the lens, thus reducing overall size and weight.
ED (Extra low Dispersion)
Two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements control chromatic aberration for excellent sharpness from image center to periphery. ED glass elements correct for axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration, which affect resolution and bokeh, while leaving precisely rendered edges with no fringing or unnatural coloration.
7-blade Circular Aperture
When changing your aperture to defocus the background, light sources appear blurred. This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background is enhanced with the 7-blade circular aperture used in this lens. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing, polygonal-shaped, defocused points of light. α lenses overcome this problem through a design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.
Optical Image Stabilization
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization keeps your image stable even when your hands aren’t. By compensating for the minor hand motions that can cause blurring and distortion, Optical SteadyShot ensures brilliant photographic results – even at high magnification.
Fast, precise, quiet AF
An advanced linear motor powers the lens’s AF system, with outstanding, precise and quiet operation that is ideally suited for movies, as well as stills. Easily achieve accurate focus, even with moving subjects.
Class-leading close-up performance
Class-leading close-up performance with a minimum focusing distance of 1.48 ft. and 0.29x maximum magnification is ideal for portraits, telephoto, macro, and more.
Instant auto/manual focus selection
Instantly switch between auto and manual focus via an AF/MF switch on the side of the lens. This makes operation faster and easier as you let the camera and lens focus for you; or, decide to take control and manually focus on the precise point you chose.

Product description
True to its high-end G Lens heritage, the SELP18105G lens features two ED glass elements and three aspherical elements for high resolution and contrast throughout the entire zoom range. The first Sony G Lens created specifically for E-mount cameras is true to its heritage, achieving outstanding resolution and contrast throughout the zoom range thanks to an advanced optical design incorporating two ED glass elements and three aspherical elements. From wide angle to medium telephoto, this power zoom lens covers approximately a 6x zoom range with a constant F4 aperture. 2013 Sony Electronics All rights reserved. User questions & answers
Question: | is this a E mount and can it be used on a NEX |
Answer: | Yes, the Sony SELP18105G lens has an E-mount. I have been using it on my Sony NEX-5R for about a month. All NEX cameras have an E-mount connection so there should be no problem putting it on a Sony NEX-6. |
Question: | I can't seem to get eye auto-focus to work with this lens. Any suggestions |
Answer: | I have found this usually happen when the lens is not seated. Or, when manual focus is on. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Does this lens cover a Full Frame sensor such as in the VG |
Answer: | The VG900 accepts both E-mount APS-C sensor lenses & A-mount Full Frame lenses, plus more. |
Question: | How does the image quality compare with the SEL18200 18-200mm lens (not the LE version)? Can you notice the difference |
Answer: | The 18-105 is definitely the sharper lens. In my opinion, even at F4 throughout the entire range, you get amazing results. The 18-200, like most zooms, you have to really stop it down some to get the best results and the telephoto ends tends to get soft focus. It's a good all-in-one but definitely can notice the difference in performance and image quality especially in lower light situations. |

Sony SEL70200G 70-200mm Interchangeable Lens for Sony Alpha Cameras. Angle of View 34°-12° 30' The small size, versatile 35mm focal length, and outstanding overall performance of this Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* lens make it an ideal match for compact 35mm full frame format E-mount bodies. Although the optical design is state-of-the-art, this superb wide angle lens remains true to the original Sonnar concept with a bright F2.8 maximum aperture (“Sonne” means “sun” in German). Three double-sided aspherical elements minimize aberration so that stunning contrast and resolution are maintained right out to the image edges at all apertures. The renowned T* lens coating contributes to natural color reproduction as well. Effectively suppress reflections that can cause flare and ghosting with Sony’s original Nano AR Coating technology. This precisely defined regular nano-structure allows accurate light transmission, contributing to high-quality images, even more so than lenses with coatings that use an irregular nano-structure. The reflection suppression characteristic of the Nano AR Coating is superior to conventional anti-reflective coatings, providing a notable improvement in clarity, contrast, and overall image quality. Once you’ve adjusted focus to where you want it, pressing this button on the lens barrel will keep the lens locked to that focusing distance. The preview function can also be assigned to this button through the camera’s custom settings. This function allows you to set a limit on the focusing range which can save you time during AF operation as the lens will not ‘hunt’ through the entire focusing range. In macro lenses, this limit can be on either the near or far range (as pictured). In the SAL70200G, the limit is set on far ranges only. In the SAL300F28G, focusing can be limited either to a far range or to a range that you specify yourself. Only the middle groups of the optical system move to achieve focus, so the overall length of the lens does not change. Other important benefits include fast autofocusing and a short minimum focusing distance. Also, the filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is convenient if you’re using a polarizing filter. Aluminum alloy is used in the construction of the G Lenses and other high-end lenses to ensure high optical performance. This material is lightweight, durable, and highly resistant to the effects of temperature change. The dust and moisture resistance design makes this lens appropriate for heavy-duty outdoor use, especially when combined with a camera that employs weather resistant measures. 2014 Sony Electronics All rights reserved. User questions & answers
Question: | Does this FE 70-200mm lens mount directly on an A7 camera, or is an adapter required |
Answer: | This lens is an F1.8 it is sharper and the GM master is an F1.4 which will give you a slightly more blurred background (bokeh) than the 1.8 but it’s also three times the price due to Buil quality . According to DXO the images they produce are right on par with each other it just depends on your preference |
Question: | Given this is a full frame lens, what compromise does it have pairing it with NEX6, which is not a full frame camera |
Answer: | Yes it is. |
Question: | Is this lens good for shooting landscapes or is it good for close ups? Help |
Answer: | It is the same lens, the model name went through a small modification due to tariffs. |
Question: | Will this lens work with the Sony A |
Answer: | This model number is not listed on Sony website itself. It also retails for $549 (after discount, full price $599), not $249.99. No way Sony will release a new version of a lens for less than half the price of the original version. This listing is a mystery!! |

Super wide-angle zoom lenses are ideal for taking photos of sweeping landscapes and producing striking images with emphasized perspective. For mid- to high-level users who seek a wider minimum focal length than offered by standard wideangle zoom lenses, the SEL-1018 is the ideal choice. NOTE:"35 mm equivalent focal length (APS-C)" and "Angle of View (APS-C)" are with interchangeable lens digital camera incorporating APS-C type image sensors. This super wide-angle zoom lens is perfect for taking photos of sweeping landscapes and producing striking images with emphasized perspective. Features incluse a constant maximum aperture of F4 and built-in Optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization. When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the light sources appear blurred. This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens. The distance encoder plays an integral part in ADI flash metering, which delivers high precision flash metering that is unaffected by the reflectance of subjects or backgrounds. The distance encoder is a lens component that directly detects the position of the focusing mechanism, and sends a signal to the CPU in order to measure distance to the subject. During flash photography, this data is very useful in calculating how much flash output is appropriate to the scene. Gyro sensors built into the lens detect even the slightest movement, and the stabilization lens is precisely shifted to counteract any image blur that might occur. Other important benefits include fast autofocusing and a short minimum focusing distance. Also, the filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is convenient if you’re using a polarizing filter. 2012 Sony Electronics All rights reserved.
