User questions & answers
Question: | How does it perform on nonstabilized a6000 or a |
Answer: | On its own, no. This lens uses a Canon EF mount, but I use mine on my A7R with a Sigma MC-11 adapter and it works fine with that. |
Question: | Can i use this lens with Sony A |
Answer: | You would have to purchase for a Canon as the mount to camera is different than Nikon. They make both |
Question: | Is this for asp-c only? ie not for the a7 series |
Answer: | I recently purchased Canon Rebel T7i. This lens works with it. Canon uses standard lens mounts across all cameras, so this lens will mount on any Canon camera, but it will work correctly only with cameras which use reduced size (APS-C) image sensor, which usually means low to mid range. |
Question: | Would it work on a dslr |
Answer: | Nataraj, try looking up the ASIN number. That might help you out. I bought a kit from Goja right before christmas. I had pretty much the same question on a Sigma 18-250 kit. It was the latest lens, and thourally enjoyed it. Enjoying it. |
Product features
A new solution for mirrorless camera users. Combining F1.4 brightness in a compact body Introducing a high-performance, large-diameter wide-angle lens
The new SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary is the world’s first interchangeable lens for mirrorless Sony E-mount and Canon EOS M* cameras in the APS-C format to offer a 24mm focal length (35mm equivalent) and F1.4 brightness. The lens for Micro Four Thirds offers a 32mm focal length (35mm equivalent) with the same f-number of 1.4. This is the large-diameter wide-angle lens for which mirrorless camera users have been waiting.
Developed to feature a lightweight, compact package for everyday use, SIGMA DN lenses for mirrorless cameras deliver superior performance covering the key focal lengths. The new lens builds on the success of the 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, which SIGMA released in 2016 as the first in a new series of prime lenses for mirrorless cameras. The 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary also combines F1.4 brightness with top-level optical performance.

Diffraction MTF
There are two types of MTF chart. One considers the diffraction quality of light, which is called “Diffraction MTF”, and the other, “Geometrical MTF” does not.
The quality of light appears in the diffracted light, and becomes more distinct as the F value gets bigger, resulting in lower image quality. Also, diffracted light exists at every aperture, which is why SIGMA has been releasing Diffraction MTF data from the beginning since it is very close to the actual image data.
The readings at 10 lines per millimeter measure the lens’s contrast ability (red lines), repeating fine parallel lines spaced at 30 lines per millimeter measure the lens’s sharpness ability (green lines), when the aperture is wide open.
Geometrical MTF
The advantage of using “Geometric MTF” data is that it is easy to measure and calculate since it does not consider the diffraction quality of light, yet it tends to show higher values in the graph than actual images.
The readings at 10 lines per millimeter measure the lens’s contrast ability (red lines), repeating fine parallel lines spaced at 30 lines per millimeter measure the lens’s sharpness ability (green lines), when the aperture is wide open.

*The lens hood cuts harmful rays that can negatively affect photographs while also minimizing reflectivity within the hood itself. The hood also features a rubber construction and a non-slip groove to make it easy to hold in a variety of shooting situations.
SIGMA WR CERAMIC PROTECTOR 67mm (Optional)
With many applications in aerospace and other industries, glass ceramic is an extremely tough type of crystallized glass that serves as the foundation for Clear Glass Ceramic. While featuring the high transmittance required of optical devices, this advanced new material combines greater hardness than chemically strengthened glass and greater flexibility than sapphire crystal glass. These qualities make Clear Glass Ceramic the ideal material for protective lens filters.
Bright prime functionality to experience photography at its best
A bright prime lens is the ideal way to experience the essence of the art of photography. Simply select a focal length that matches the image and enjoy complete control of the depth of field. The 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary is the world’s first interchangeable lens for mirrorless Sony E-mount and Canon EOS M cameras in the APS-C format to offer a 24mm focal length (35mm equivalent) and F1.4 brightness. The lens for Micro Four Thirds offers a 32mm focal length (35mm equivalent) with the same bright F1.4 aperture. This is the large-diameter wide-angle lens for which mirrorless camera users have been waiting.
Designed to minimize flare and ghosting with a rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur.
The 9-blade rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur in the out-of-focus areas of the image.
From an early stage in the lens design process, flare and ghosting have been measured to establish an optical design resistant to strong incident light sources such as backlighting. SIGMA’s Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting to help photographers produce sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions. The included lens hood can be attached to block out extraneous light, which can have a negative effect on rendering performance.
Outstanding optical performance and build quality
The SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary features SIGMA’s inner focus technologies, while lighter lens elements in the focus lens group make possible a more compact actuator. Moreover, this lens offers outstanding stability whether the photographer is shooting handheld or has the camera placed on a surface. Structurally, the lens features materials and parts that contribute to its compact, lightweight structure. In summary, this is an unprecedented lens that combines outstanding optical performance with exceptional portability and usability.
The mount features a special sealing to make the lens an excellent choice in a wide variety of conditions.
*Except for Canon EF-M mount
High-precision, rugged brass bayonet mount
The brass mount combines high precision with rugged construction. Its treated surfaces and enhanced strength contribute to the exceptional durability of the lens.
