2 best 180mm macro lens

A 180mm macro lens is a specialized camera lens used in photography, particularly with SLR (Single Lens Reflex) cameras. This type of lens is designed for close-up and macro photography, allowing you to capture highly detailed and magnified images of small subjects like insects, flowers, or other intricate objects. Here are some key features and characteristics of a 180mm macro lens:

  1. Focal Length: The "180mm" in the name refers to the lens's focal length. A 180mm macro lens has a long focal length, which allows you to stand at a distance from your subject while still achieving 1:1 (life-size) magnification or greater.

  2. Macro Capabilities: These lenses are specifically designed for macro photography, providing a 1:1 or greater magnification ratio. This means that objects can be reproduced on the camera sensor at life size or larger, capturing fine details.

  3. Telephoto Design: The 180mm focal length is relatively long, making it a telephoto lens. This allows you to maintain a comfortable shooting distance when photographing skittish subjects or when you want to avoid casting shadows on your subject.

  4. Image Stabilization: Many modern 180mm macro lenses come equipped with image stabilization technology to counteract camera shake, which is especially important in macro photography to ensure sharp, detailed images.

  5. Aperture: These lenses typically have a wide maximum aperture, such as f/2.8 or f/3.5, which allows for excellent background blur (bokeh) and low-light performance.

  6. Lens Construction: High-quality macro lenses are often constructed with specialized optics to reduce distortion, chromatic aberrations, and other optical imperfections. This ensures the best image quality in close-up photography.

  7. Manual and Autofocus: Most 180mm macro lenses offer both manual focus and autofocus options, giving photographers flexibility in their shooting style.

  8. Use Cases: 180mm macro lenses are ideal for capturing fine details in nature photography, product photography, and even portraiture. The longer focal length allows for creative compositions and subject isolation.

  9. Compatibility: These lenses are typically available for various camera systems, making them compatible with a range of SLR and DSLR cameras.

  10. Price: High-quality 180mm macro lenses can be relatively expensive due to their specialized nature and advanced optical design.

In summary, a 180mm macro lens is a powerful tool for close-up and macro photography, offering high magnification, telephoto capabilities, and excellent image quality. It's a versatile lens suited for various photography styles, especially when capturing intricate details is essential.

Answer: This is a prime lense so it can be used at f3.5 at any focal point. Please note, lens does not have image stabilization so that a fast shutter speed and/or a tripod must be used when doing 1:1 macro work. More information is available on http://techexperience.net/go/canon/

User questions & answers

Question: What is the dimension from screw hole to opposite screw hole
Answer: The inner to outer dimensions of the opposite screw hole slots are 13" to 14 1/8". The slots are 1/8" by 5/8".
Question: Will these fit kennwood subs
Answer: Depends on the dimensions of the sub and if it's mounted on top or recessed. This grill has an outside dimension of 12" and it's 1/2" wide, so the inside of the black ring is 11". The grill part angles up for about a 1/2" so the highest part of the grill is about a 10" circle. The mounting clips extend 3/8" below the outer ring so it's about 7/8" clearance from mounting surface to the 10" grill center. There are twelve nubs on the inside of the grill left over from manufacturing.
