14 best optical zoom compact camera
An optical zoom compact camera is a type of digital camera designed for convenience and portability while offering the benefit of optical zoom functionality. These cameras are also commonly referred to as "point-and-shoot" digital cameras, and they are popular for casual photographers and travelers who want a compact and easy-to-use camera for capturing everyday moments.
Here are some key features and characteristics of optical zoom compact cameras:
Optical Zoom: Optical zoom allows users to get closer to their subjects without sacrificing image quality. Unlike digital zoom, which simply crops and enlarges the image, optical zoom uses the camera's lens to magnify the subject. This results in higher-quality images.
Compact Size: These cameras are typically small and lightweight, making them easy to carry in a pocket or purse. Their compact form factor makes them ideal for on-the-go photography.
Automatic Settings: Point-and-shoot cameras are designed for simplicity. They often feature automatic modes that handle settings such as exposure, focus, and white balance, making it easy for beginners to capture good shots without much technical knowledge.
LCD Display: Most compact cameras have an LCD screen on the back, which allows users to frame their shots, review images, and navigate the camera's menu system.
Variety of Modes: In addition to automatic settings, these cameras often include various scene modes, like portrait, landscape, and macro, to optimize settings for specific shooting conditions.
Video Recording: Many compact cameras can record high-definition videos, making them versatile for capturing both photos and videos.
Image Stabilization: To combat the effects of camera shake, compact cameras often come with image stabilization technology, which helps produce sharper images, especially in low light conditions.
Built-in Flash: These cameras typically include a built-in flash for illuminating scenes in low-light situations.
Connectivity: Some modern compact cameras are equipped with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity, enabling users to transfer photos wirelessly to their smartphones or other devices.
Battery Life: Compact cameras usually have decent battery life, allowing users to take many photos on a single charge.
Price Range: They come in various price ranges to suit different budgets, from affordable models to more advanced options with additional features.
While optical zoom compact cameras are convenient and versatile for everyday photography, they may have limitations compared to larger, more advanced digital cameras, especially in terms of image quality and manual control. Nevertheless, they are an excellent choice for casual photographers and those who prefer an easy-to-use camera for capturing life's moments without the complexity of more professional camera systems.

Question: | Is it easy to change the iso level in the p mode ? usually i shoot in automatic, but also like to change iso , real basic stuff |
Answer: | Yes it’s very easy. |
Question: | Can this camera shoot in raw format |
Answer: | No, and the JPEG photo quality is that of iPhone 5s. Consider Panasonic LX20. Far better for $300 more. Even challenges Sony RX100 V, which is fragile lens design. LX20 and this Canon are better built. |
Question: | Would this be a good camera to use for concerts in low light |
Answer: | I bought the Canon G7X in 2015 because I wanted a point and shoot that was good in low light situations. The ISO goes up to 12800. The G7X is wonderful! I've used it in concerts and also numerous times for shows in the main theatre on cruises. My friends told me I couldn't take photos as flash was not allowed-no problem with my camera. Photos turned out great! There are newer versions now to the G7X. I've been happy with mine-worth the money. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I love the camera, but I cannot get it to capture still photos while recording a movie. Can somebody tell me how to do it |
Answer: | Hello Harry, Please explain what you mean you cannot get still shots while recording. Do you want the camera to display still photos when you take them and you choose when to continue taking video. Or you cannot find your still photos after you take them, you only see the video. As I explained, possibly not clearly, when you are recording a video and you press the shutter button to take a photo, the camera do not interupt your video recording to display the picture. after completing your video you press the play/review button and then you will see the photos and the video when going in reverse order. if you review from begining you will see video first then your pictures. |
Question: | I want to make sure I have everything I need to start shooting on day one. What accessories come in the box with the camera |
Answer: | I would suggest at least ordering 55-mm UV filter (acts as lense protector so you should never have to wipe/clean the coatings on your expensive lense or worry about scratches). May want to consider a circular polarizing lens (linear polarizers supposedly don't work on sensor cameras). You will also want to have an SD, SDHC, or SDXC UHS-I (letter I vs an UHS-II interface) memory card that is at least Class 10 (C with a 10 in it), UHS-1 (number 1) or UHS-3 speed class which is U with a 1 or 3 in it. I suggest at least 16 GB, with 32 GB being better. I like videos, so I got 64 GB. A case to protect your camera would be nice. I also favor a better shoulder strap and a hand strap grip. One end of the hand strap should screw into the tripod mount and supply its own tripod mount hole to allow mounting to tripod without removing the strap. |
Question: | can you use filters with this camera and if so what size does it take |
Answer: | You can use 55mm filters with the Sony HX400V |
Question: | can the camera be operated remotly with the smartphone for to take photos and make focus with wifi or another wireless methods |
Answer: | Yes this camera can be operated remotely with smartphones. You can take the picture and zoom in and out. You can see the subject being photographed on the phone. It updates every 2 seconds. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How is the sound quality? Poor, average, acceptable, good? Thank you |
Answer: | I found this lens to be a good lens for taking group shots as long as you take into account the size of the group. There are many other factors such as light, type of camera (full frame vs crop sensor) that will impact the quality of the photo as well so keep that in mind. I use this with both an 80d and a T6i and have had excellent experiences with this lense. A full frame makes it a true 24-105, but a crop sensor extends that by about 1.6x. When using a crop sensor just multiply the focal length by 1.6 for a more accurate measurement (24 x 1.6=38.4 mm) so you will have to account for that when planning the shot if it is a posed group photo. One thing to keep in mind is that this lens has a “creep” to it- in other words, when you zoom out the barrel extends. What happens is that if you have the camera hanging from your shoulder on a strap, the barrel slides (creeps) down. Canon should have put some sort of lock on it, but honestly I haven’t found that to be a problem. I will say though, this is a great lens for group, portrait, and landscape shots. |
Question: | Can I connect a microphone |
Answer: | No it is not a kit lens and is a Canon L-series lens. Since I've gotten it, it's the only lens that has been on my camera. |
Question: | does this camera have a selfie mode? meaning can you see yourself on the screen to take a pic (like a cellphone |
Answer: | Yes, any Canon EF or EF-S lens will work with a Canon EOS body |
Question: | Is there a mic port |
Answer: | I know this is an old question, but I would like to get some good info out there... Short answer is that it's not as much a portrait lens as it is a general purpose lens; it can take a sharp photo of jsut about anything, but lacks the wide aperture that creates the "portrait" look. Ok, longer answer... So, depending on your camera, you might be able to use this for what you want. Taking product shots is not the same as portraits; a portrait is meant to be sharp around the eyes and then softer around the face, and then the background is meant to be blurred to put greater emphasis on the subject. While these principles apply at the basic level for product shots, it's more important to show the entire product as being sharp with a mostly blank background to add further emphasis on the subject. Lighting is very important here, as well as depth of field (DOF). For products, you will likely shoot at a narrow F-stop to increase overall sharpness and add more DOF, so the F4 max aperture is not a big deal (F5.6 or F8 would be more useful than F1.4 and F2.8 of portrait lenses). With a min focus distance of about a foot and a half you should be able to get plenty of things in your field of view on a full frame camera. On an APS-C, you might still be ok, but I would think a lens like the 15-85mm would be a better choice, or the 17-55mm, or even the basic 18-55mm kit lens (I don't normally recommend a lens like the 24-105mm for APS-C, the crop factor kills the wide end). If on a full frame, then I would do this with this lens... Set Up a backdrop, it can be anything from a sheet to a large sheet of cardboard. If using cardboard then one that is semi-glossy is best. Place lights; preferably one from overhead and one from the left or right of the camera. DOn't put them in line with the lens to avoid harsh lighting effects. Set to Av mode, and drop your aperture to F5.6 or F8, and take a test shot. If the shot looks good, then go with it. If not, adjust your focus or lighting based on what you see in the test shot. Use whatever focal length is needed. For the most part, the 24-105mm is a decent lens, I personally don't use it though, but that is because I use APS-C cameras (80D). On APS-C the same advice applies, only with the other lenses I suggested. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come with the charger |
Answer: | It does; your camera can use all EF and EF-S lenses. However, I think you will be better off avoiding this lens and going for the EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM instead. It is a little more expensive (300 USD), but is a FAR better lens. The only thing the 75-300mm has over it is the 50mm of extra reach. The 55-250mm has IS, better image quality, faster and smoother focus, sharper at all zoom ranges, and a few other minor advantages like rear element focusing (front of lens doesn't rotate). Best of all, it will fit your camera! And while the 75-300mm is considered the worst lens in the Canon lineup, the 55-250mm is considered the best telephoto for under a grand. If the IS STM is a little too expensive, then the older model, the IS II is still a decent lens as well, for a little more than the 75-300mm. If you want some more info, I have a review for that lens on my profile. Hope that helped! |

Question: | When I inserted memory card, the screen went into loop of not formatted to choice, push yes back to not formatted screen. Help |
Answer: | Every memory card has their own info so they can perform well.. if you previously use the card , you might want to format the card assuming you've transferred your pic to another storage area . If this was a new card... if the camera is asking for you to format.. the card may have to be formatted before you use..usuallythis may occur with an inexpensive product |
Question: | will this camera record good video |

Question: | Where do I get the batteries and a charger for them |
Answer: | This camera comes with a battery/charger, here is a list of the accessories included by Kodak:*LB-060 Li-ion Battery*Neck Strap*Lens Cap with Strap*AC Adapter*USB Cable*Software CD-ROM*Quick Start Guide |
Question: | How fast is this camera. (This is my biggest complaint about the small digitals - they are SO slow |
Answer: | It depends on what setting you have your shots on. Mines on face beautify and portrait and its slower at taking shots because of that but regular settings is faster. :) I'm a professional photographer and this camera has done well. |

Since Li-Ion has a slower discharge compared to other battery types, it will retain its charge longer, giving you confidence that your camera will be ready when you are.

Incredibly Close-Up and Compact
Get sharp detail up close with the world’s smallest and lightest^5 30x zoom camera. There's even a pop-up electronic viewfinder for eye-level framing and a 180° tilt screen for 18.2MP selfies. Stunning picture quality comes from the low light Exmor R sensor and premium ZIESS lens with 5-axis image stabilization. Then share photos instantly with built-in Wi-Fi^2 and NFC^3.
30x optical zoom ZEISS lens plus 60x Clear Image Digital Zoom
Get super close and clear with the premium ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens from wide angle (24mm equivalent) to 30x optical zoom plus 60x Clear Image digital zoom. The ZEISS T* coating reduces undesirable reflection, such as ghosting and flare, on the lens surface, while 30x optical zoom allows you to get closer to your subject. With Clear Image Zoom the powerful BIONZ X processor compares patterns found in adjacent pixels and creates new pixels to match selected patterns, resulting in more realistic, higher-quality images. Clear Image Zoom doubles optical zoom for closer photos.
Superb 18.2MP image quality
The DSC-HX80 features an 18.2 megapixel backside illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor with a BIONZ X image processor. This brings out the full resolving power of the camera’s professional ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* Lens to deliver high resolution, and stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain for both stills and movie.
Built-in retractable OLED Tru-Finder viewfinder
View every scene in rich detail with the high contrast and bright, pop-up OLED Tru-Finder with approx. 638k dots resolution. With 50Mbps Full HD (1920x1080) 60p high quality video recording, XAVC S enables beautiful video recording with minimal compression noise even in scenes with a lot of movement. Linear PCM is adopted for audio compression delivering incredible audio to match your video. The camera also records in AVCHD, ideal for HDTV and Blu-ray Disc burning, or your choice of highly compressed MP4 HD video ideal for web.
Simple connectivity to smartphones via Wi-Fi and NFC
Wi-Fi connectivity allows you to control your camera with your compatible Smartphone or Tablet^2. Frame your image on your device’s LCD and control the camera’s shutter. Selfie-ready multi-angle 3" Xtra Fine LCD display
Selfies have never been easier with a beautiful 3” (921k dots) Xtra Fine LCD Display that rotates up approx. 180°. User questions & answers
Question: | For this bundle, the case has two side clips but is their a strap included |
Answer: | Two side clips on the camera case have small straps and are only for the zippers to make them easy to pull. The longer strap included is for the camera. I leave that one hanging out through the two closed zippers. That seems to work. I wish the darn thing had a manual, or it would be easy to find on the internet. Do these people think we are all young geniuses?? |
Question: | Would I be able to connect this camera to my Samsung android tablet, for Instagram |
Answer: | I think so, but I have had a lot of trouble with this camera since I bought it. Could be just this particular camera and not the entire model. I get a weird colored box on part of some of my photos which can only be seen when I download from the camera and not in the viewfinder. I sent it out for repair and the problem persists I may have got a lemon. |
Question: | Does it have a viewfinder |
Answer: | No, the WX350 does not have a viewfinder. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does it accept sd cards |
Answer: | Thank you for your question. The KODAK PXIPRO FZ43 Friendly Zoom Camera takes a standard SD or SDHC memory card. We recommend purchasing a card that is no larger than 32 GB. Please note that the FZ43 is not compatible with Micro SD, Micro/Adapter, Ultra, Ultra Plus, Extreme, or XC Cards. |
Question: | Is this camera compatible with windows |
Answer: | We didn't have a SD card reader built into our computer so I had to buy an external card reader, but once the pictures were on the computer there was no trouble using windows 10 to do anything we did before. |
Question: | My camera won't turn on. I made sure they followed the plus and minus. I even changed the batteries and checked again |
Answer: | Mine did the same thing and the supplied batteries checked good. Then, I put some Duracell batteries in the camera and it came to life. The supplied batteries are probably weak. Try some new Duracell Alkalines and try it again, before you send it back. |
Question: | does it come with a battery charger |
Answer: | No it does not. You must buy your own batteries although some are included. Buy rechargeable and your own charger. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Free returns |
Answer: | No |
Question: | How is it powered |
Answer: | It will; your camera can use all EF and EF-S lenses. However, I think you will be better off avoiding this lens and going for the EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM instead. It is a little more expensive (about 200 bucks), but is a FAR better lens. |
