9 best olympus gps cameras
Olympus was a renowned manufacturer of digital cameras, including point-and-shoot models with GPS capabilities. These cameras allowed users to geotag their photos by embedding GPS location data into the image metadata. This feature was particularly useful for travelers and outdoor enthusiasts who wanted to record the exact location where their photos were taken.
Some notable Olympus GPS cameras included models from the Olympus Tough series, which were designed to be rugged and suitable for outdoor adventures. These cameras often featured waterproof, shockproof, and freezeproof designs, making them ideal for capturing photos and videos in challenging environments.
Olympus also offered a range of other digital cameras, including mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras and compact digital cameras. The company was known for its innovative features and high-quality imaging technology.
It's important to note that Olympus announced the sale of its imaging business to Japan Industrial Partners (JIP) in 2020. Therefore, the availability of Olympus cameras and their features may have changed since then, and we recommend checking with current sources for the most up-to-date information on Olympus cameras and their capabilities.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the TG-830 or the TG-820 better? I wanted the 820, and my parents bought me the 830 because they figured the never version would be the best. It malfunctioned a little and I just wanted to be sure this was the better camera in case I need to exchange it |
Answer: | I was told by my vendor that the new model TG-830 has the GPS function which I love. The resolution is higher and is HD for the recording. You can do the comparison on both features. When I purchased mine the newer model cost about $100.00 more and now is about the same price. |
Question: | How good is the battery life? On average, how long does it last or how many pictures per battery life |
Answer: | I found battery life to be comparably short but my unit stopped charging the battery and then stopped powering on after three days of use. I'm not the best judge most likely. |
Question: | i am going on a cruise in february to the bahamas. and, because i plan on going snorkeling, i want to buy an underwater camera but dont want to spend a rediculous amount of money. i plan to mostly take pictures both above ground and underwater, and maybe a video or two. the video sound quality isnt terribly imporant to |
Answer: | Kim, the short answer is yes. This is a great waterproof camera and truly unbeatable at its price point. I do not think you will be disappointed with it. |
Question: | Can some people check their video when it records and tries to auto-focus? I am hearing a hammering sound. Curious if it's a bad batch |
Answer: | I hear a hammering sound when I record video as well...that's a real drag because the video itself looks great. What have people done about this? |
Question: | does this camera have a timer feature so I can run and be in a group photo |
Answer: | Yes, it does. I have used the (in my opinion better) option of downloading the mobile app which allows you to then use your phone/tablet to control the camera remotely. This works great for group pics! |
Question: | Does this use a standard sd card or a micro sd card |
Answer: | It uses a standard SD card or a Micro with an SD adapter |
Question: | How does one charge the camera without taking the battery out? Dumb question? I have not had a new camera in a while |
Answer: | Open the waterproof battery door, and you will see where the charger plugs in. |
Question: | Does this camera take better quality pictures than the iPhone |
Answer: | I do not have an iphone 6. It takes better pictures than the iphone 4s that I do have. I've seen pictures from the iphone 6 and they are good but the TG-860 is crisper and has more options. My one dislike of this camera is that it does not do close ups very close. I believe the iphone 6 allows closer close ups for landscape type pictures. This camera has some great options for sports playing photography and it's movie options are fantastic though the sound recording is not loud using playback. That you can use this camera in the rain without damaging it is also great, unlike the iphone 6. I had a choice to buy an iphone 6 or a new point and shoot for my vacation. I chose the point and shoot and I am glad I did. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I prefer to have my photos on my iPad, rather than on the computer. Is there a cable or a way to load them onto the iPad |
Answer: | Apple makes a device that plugs into the power connection of the IPad that transfers your photos from your SD card into the Photo app of your Ipad. It costs less than $25 and is available just about anywhere that sells the IPad. |
Question: | Can you shoot in Raw format |
Answer: | No, unfortunately. |
Question: | I am purchasing a waterproof now. As I'm sure you wanted to know when you purchased yours, Is this the best one on the marked "overall"??? Thanks, Sco |
Answer: | It's a very nice camera, I have it for more than one year and it's almost as new (I have dove with it, I took it to high altitudes - above 4,500 m.a.s.l - and extreme temperatures, and it always works). If I should said about any problem with the camera, is that sometimes when you want to take a fast photo and don't push a little bit to focus, the picture taken is blur (It also happens when I request any stranger to take a photo and he just push the button without focussing).Buy it, you won't regret! |
Question: | What all comes with the camera? It is ridiculous this is not listed |
Answer: | everything you need, battery, usb cable and wall charger/usb unit, dvd with manual, wrist strap and 2nd opposite color lens cover , i bought black unit so came with a red and black cover. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the lens (mm) for UV filter |
Answer: | I use 40.5mm Hoya filters on my TG-6 and TG-5. |
Question: | I bought a fuji xp, highly rated as well, but was disappointed with the overall quality, underwater looked flat. should i expect better from this |
Answer: | The Olympus TG-6 will produce very good UW images if used it correctly. Ideally the underwater mode is selected and the correct white balance depth is chosen. UW photography helps tremendously from having clear water and strong frontlit sunlight with no clouds . You also usually need to get pretty close to your subject. Without those you may need strobes or to use a flash. If want to learn more about TG UW photography google "tg-5 backscatter tutorial". In some cases after all that, the images yes will be a bit flat and you will need to do some post-processing. TG-6 images are good quality and tend to respond well to PP, especially if you use a raw file and a raw editor like light room. You can also use a free editor like Gimp...which can easily take care of flat image. Gimp > Color > Brightness-Contrast > Contrast (crank it right and the flatness should magically go away). Gimp can also do a good job with white balance correct (although LR is likely better at both tasks). |
Question: | Does this camera come with a lens cover |
Answer: | No. In spite of this, I have never smudged the lens. It is recessed enough that even when doing VERY close-up macro shot, the lens stays clean. If you are going to chuck the camera into a (filthy) jacket pocket, then something like the Olympus Lens Barrier LB-T01 would be for you. I have used the Olympus CLA-T01 Conversion Lens Adapter which comes with the traditional clamp-on lens cover. It usually stays in-place. For real dirty and dusty locations, I use a screw-on UV filter to keep the optics from getting scratched by wind-driven grit. I hope this helps. |
Question: | What is the difference between the tg5 and the tg6? the specs are virtually identical |
Answer: | There are some noteworthy improvements. Chromatic aberration is reduced, the purple orb issue has been reduced, you can now shoot microscope videos and you can use aperture mode with microscope mode. The TG-6 images are also a bit darker and less likely to be over-exposed. I think there is an improvement in image quality. The TG-6 is also a bit more rugged (thicker lcd, better for reduction, etc). The biggest improvement is in the lcd screen. |
