13 best nikon gps cameras

Nikon has produced digital cameras with built-in GPS (Global Positioning System) capabilities to allow users to geotag their photos and record location information while taking pictures. Here's some information about Nikon GPS cameras:

  1. Geotagging: Nikon GPS cameras are equipped with GPS technology that enables them to record precise location data (latitude and longitude) when a photo is taken. This information is embedded in the photo's metadata.

  2. Location Awareness: GPS cameras can display your current coordinates on the camera's LCD screen, helping you keep track of your location while shooting.

  3. Travel and Adventure Photography: GPS-enabled cameras are popular among travelers and outdoor enthusiasts as they can help create a visual record of where photos were taken during trips, hikes, and other adventures.

  4. Mapping and Organization: When you transfer your photos to a computer, software applications can use the geotagging information to place your images on a map, making it easier to organize and sort photos by location.

  5. Travel Logs: Some Nikon GPS cameras offer a "travel log" feature that records your route as you move, allowing you to create a visual travel diary alongside your photos.

  6. Compatibility: Nikon GPS cameras are designed to work seamlessly with Nikon's proprietary software, such as ViewNX and Capture NX, which can be used to view and manage geotagged photos.

  7. Battery Life: Using GPS continuously can drain the camera's battery faster, so Nikon often provides power-saving options to extend battery life when GPS isn't needed.

  8. Accuracy: Nikon GPS cameras typically provide accurate location data, but the quality of the GPS signal can vary depending on factors such as terrain, weather conditions, and obstructions.

  9. Ease of Use: Nikon's GPS cameras are designed to be user-friendly, with intuitive menus and settings for enabling and configuring the GPS feature.

  10. Models: Nikon has released several digital camera models with built-in GPS over the years, ranging from compact point-and-shoot cameras to advanced digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras. The availability of GPS may vary by model and year.

It's important to note that while Nikon GPS cameras offer a convenient way to geotag photos, not all Nikon camera models have this feature. If geotagging is a critical factor for your photography, it's essential to check the specifications of the specific Nikon camera model you are interested in to ensure it has GPS functionality.

User questions & answers

Question: Which is the biggest sd card supported by nikon coolpix w300? 256gb
Answer: The following memory cards have been tested and have been approved for use, by Nikon, for the COOLPIX W300: Sandisk: 4, 8, 16 32, 64, 128 256 and 512GB Toshiba: 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128GB Panasonic: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128GB Lexar Media: 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, and 512GB.
Question: What type of memory card must I buy with this camera
Answer: "The camera supports SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards. The camera also supports SDHC and SDXC cards compliant with UHS-I. Memory cards with an SD Speed Class rating of 6 or faster are recommended for recording movies (when recording 4K UHD movies an image size/frame rate of 2160/30p or 2160/25p, cards rated UHS Speed Class 3 or faster are recommended). When using a memory card with a lower Speed Class rating, movie recording may stop unexpectedly. If you use a card reader, make sure that it is compatible with your memory card. Contact the manufacturer for information on features, operation, and limitations on use." Quote from the Coolpix W300 Quick Start Guide, Pg. 32, Memory Cards That Can Be Used
Question: With the GPS locations, will it attach the gps location information to the pictures saved data
Answer: I am amazed that someone incorrectly answered "No" to this question!! The correct answer is: Yes, when "Use built-in location data" in "Location data options" in the location data options menu is set to "On", the W300 camera starts receiving signals from positioning satellites and will embed location data in each image's EXIF metadata. This is the main purpose of having a GPS/GLONASS receiver in a camera! But note that the accuracy of the location data will depend on how many satellites the camera is receiving signals from, and if you are in a place that blocks satellite signals, location data will not be recorded. When the camera is receiving signals, an icon appears on the monitor that indicates how many satellites signals are being received from, and thus how accurate the location data will be. For the most accurate location data, you should wait to take a photo until the monitor indicates that signals are being received from three or more satellites, which in my experience takes a couple of seconds after the camera is turned on.
Question: My nikon w 300 is making a weird noise when i shake it , still makes the noise when i remove the battery ?what should i do
Answer: This problem seems to keep going on in the Nikon Coolpix cameras. I have had an AW100 that didn't have this problem, then bought an AW 120 and this is when I first heard this noise. Thinking it was something loose inside, I took it back to trade it for another one. After the salesperson and I went through 6 other AW120s, and found that they ALL had the same issue. I took one of the cameras home and contacted Nikon and they said something about this noise in the camera and they were working on fixing this issue. Well, somebody must have dropped the ball because this issue has turned up in the AW130s and now I am reading that this issue is in the NEW W300. Come on Nikon, you have a great camera just figure out this f#$**%g problem and fix it. People who spend 400 bucks on a new camera dont want one that rattles. Fix the dam problem!!!!

User questions & answers

Question: I really want a camera that has a "sports" setting or a quick shutter setting. I can't find a list of settings for this camera. Help anyone
Answer: If you take a look at the user's manual for this camera (PDF here: http://download3.nikonimglib.com/archive1/Fty6000ImsYi00Dnu9899LDuuN03/S9700RM_(En)02.pdf) on page 32 of the manual (page 56 of the PDF) there's a list of the modes along with descriptions.
Question: How do I disable this wretched, noisy pop up flash? I want the default mode to be off. Every time I turn off the camera, it resets to flash AUTO. I am returning the camera if this stupid flash can't be disabled
Answer: I brought this camera home and was also annoyed about the flash mechanism. What I started doing was, when I needed the flash, I put thumb about 1/2" over the flash so it would not be quite so noisy. It made a difference to me.I love the camera but using just that LCD display in bright sunlight is a turn off. I returned it for the Nikon P600 but I was not getting the same quality as I was with the S9700. Returning the P600 for the S9700, again, or something equivalent with a view finder (which nowadays is hard to buy). All I can really say on the S9700 is, I was simply amazed and blown away with the speed of taking pix, the focus times, HD video (which the P600 lagged at).
Question: Does the camera support a tripod
Answer: Yes, it has a standard threaded receptacle on the left underside of the camera.
Question: can the gps location be printed out on the picture? I need a camera that I can print the location
Answer: I couldn't find anyway to do this.

Question: Does it have a place to connect a tripod
Answer: Yes. Standard tripod connection on bottom of the camera.
Question: Does it have a built-in flash? If so, is it much good
Answer: Yes it does have built in Flash. Specs are :Built-in flash Range (approx.) (ISO sensitivity: Auto) WBuilt-in: 0.5 to 5.2m (1 ft. 8 in. to 17 ft.) T: 0.5 to 4.5m (1 ft. 8 in. to 14 ft.) Flash Control TTL auto flash with monitor preflashesIn response to your question regarding the quality of the flash, the answer is relative based on each individual's meaning of "good". I think this product offers great performance.
Question: Has anyone used this underwater for snorkeling? Is it really waterproof
Answer: No!!!!! It is waterproof when you first buy it but over time ( less than a year) it will start leaking even with the door completely closed. Biggest waste of $. We use it in the pool a few times & then at a waterpark. After that it leaked when we took it snorkeling. Now it won't work at all.
Question: What does this camera include
Answer: It is not accurately labeled. It is NOT the international edition as it only had a charger for America. It comes with the camera, American charger and instruction book and warranty card. Good camera but it is not the product advertised.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the GPS feature usable to look up directions and maps? also is the wifi usable for general internet usage
Answer: No, and No! The GPS feature here embeds location info into the image data, and will also let you know about places in the area, but will not give you directions. The WiFi is used to transfer photos off of the camera and onto your smart phone, or your home computer.
Question: Does it float by itself or do you have to have the wrist strap
Answer: Just a heads up the floatie wrist strap recommended for this thing SUCKS. Absolutely sucks. I just lost my camera bc it has such a bad connection that the floatie stayed totally intact but the camera loop disconnected. Make sure you add on something much sturdier. I am buying a new camera to replace one lost and will not make the same mistake of thinking this time I have a floatie so now I won't see it disappear under the rapids. The camera itself sinks like a ROCK. You would think they could develop a neoprene cover that actually is boyant itself for those of us who will not use this to dive and don't need it to not want to pop to the surface. This is the second 300+ camera I lose from this brand to this same issue. The camera itself is excellent and easy to spot bc they make it in orange
Question: does it have a easy to capturePanorama Mode
Answer: yes, it can put the pictures together very easily. it does a really nice job
Question: What's the battery run time for this camera
Answer: It's plently, but the GPS tends to empty the battery faster. For more information you can go to http://techexperience.net/go/nikon/

User questions & answers

Question: does wi fi work
Answer: Yes the Wi-Fi works but it's a bit different. You need to download the Nikon app on you mobile device, enable Wi-Fi on your camera and provide an SSID, from your mobile device Wi-Fi settings look for camera's SSID and get connected. Then you can use the app to transfer images selectively or all at once. Another good thing is that using app you can remotely take photos so you need not buy a remote. Hope this helps. Will be happy to answer any other question.
Question: I have a couple Micro/Macro lenses and tried the AF Macro Nikkor 60mm without success. It works fine with my D300S but just sat there with the D
Answer: The D5300 does not have a focus motor, so it will not focus AF-D lenses like your 60mm.The Nikon web site has more info on lens compatibility: http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d5300/compatibility02.htm
Question: What is in the box? Does it come with any internal memory/SD card? Lens cover? What kind of cables
Answer: This item includes: Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera (Gray) EN-EL14 Lithium-Ion Battery (1030mAh) MH-24 Quick Charger for EN-EL14 Battery EG-CP16 Nikon Audio/Video Cable UC-E17 USB Cable DK-25 Rubber Eyecup AN-DC3 Camera Strap (Gray) DK-5 Eyepiece Shield (Replacement) BF-1B Body Cap BS-1 Hot-Shoe Cover Nikon View NX2 Software CD-ROM Limited 1-Year Warranty
Question: What is the big diference to buy D5300 instead the D7100. The 5300 has a 4x procesor and better video. Wifi and Gps included. D7100 $350 more for what
Answer: Why the D7100? Auto Focus, the 51 point system inherited from the D4, 15 cross type, focuses down to -2EV, just doesn't go blind in low light, even at night without the AF-Assist light. Focus Tracking (AF-A and D51) tracks much more accurately. Can lock the selected focus point, no more accidental (very annoying) movement by the multi-selector when metering is active. The built-in flash can operate as a wireless commander, saving remote flash users at least one external flash unit. Viewfinder 100% view and sharper. Fast parameter change access with the configurable button controls, two command dials and two mode dials, so almost no trips to the menu system in the field. Can have AF Lock AND AE Lock independent of each other with custom buttons. U1 and U2 modes for instant access to often used (differemt) shooting parameter settings. More (useful) release modes (Q and CH and CL) and right at your fingertips. 2 card slots so you have on camera backup. Shutter to 1/8,000. Internal AF motor, non AF-S lenses work fine. Better built and sealed. You can get the D7100 body for less than $900 at all dealers now. Less on line. Almost all true even for the recently announced D5500 at $899.

User questions & answers

Question: I have this camera and the battery "meter" is always at 100% until a screen pops up "Battery Depleted." What can I do about this
Answer: Same problem - I ended up buying a second battery and a wall charger, so I always have a charged battery on hand and a way to charge the depleted one. Somewhat disappointing. I was excited to find a "bridge" camera that was fairly easy to understand and takes quality photographs, so I've chosen to live with the battery problem rather than try to return it.
Question: Can you replace the batteries with alkaline AA batteries if the rechargeable battery goes down
Answer: No. The standard battery is a 3.7 v Lithium ion battery pack (a flat battery) and not interchangeable with AA. My experience shows that the standard battery that comes with the camera goes a long time before needing charge. I did buy 2 extra batteries (a little higher capacity) with charger (both ac & dc) for about $20. I also bought a camera bag that holds everything. All through Amazon.
Question: Is it possible to manually adjust the focus
Answer: Yes it is possible but manual focus is not available in all modes. Also, you don't get a split zoom or anything to help with the focus mechanics. Since you're using just a 3" LCD for the viewfinder, in-focus and out of focus is not always clear. Also difficult to do a fine adjustment on the focus, there's no vernier and each time you change the focus it seems to have a certain minimum amount of adjustment.
Question: I'm a beginner, would this be suitable for me
Answer: Good for beginners and/or amateurs nothing beyond that. I must say though that you can get very good shots, almost professional quality.

Question: The 22X zoom is digital or optical
Answer: 22x is Optical and it also has a 4x digital zoom (digital is worthless though as you can do that on your home computer)
Question: ARE ADDITIONAL LENSES AVAILABLE
Answer: In regards to your inquiry, the lens on this camera is fixed, and there aren't any auxiliary lenses available for this camera.
Question: I used the camera for 1 hour taking pictures and then the battery showed me less then half icon. I have Nikon EN-EL12 3.7.V 1050mAh 3.9Wh. Normal
Answer: I don't believe that it is. I used mine to video almost the entire Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade and then all of the fireworks after plus lots of pictures taken in the park before and after the parade. I did make sure it was fully charged before I went to Disney but I still had plenty of battery left when I got home.
Question: Does this camera have Panorama Mode, and Fish Eye filter effect
Answer: It does have fisheye, although I've never tried it. It also has panorama which works pretty well. However, it is a little finicky and often stops prematurely as I'm sweeping the scene.

User questions & answers

Question: Can the battery be charged without removing it from the camera, via usb with an external power source
Answer: No, the battery has to be removed and be charged on an external charger. That's the biggest disadvantage for a water proof camera; at least on this model (AW100).
Question: how long does the battery last
Answer: Hi Theresa!I think you can use the camera for one day long taking picture. The battery isnt the problem for me, but I can tell you that I am not very satisfied with the quality and the resolution of the pictures. I have another Nikon, more professional, and It is much better than this coolpix. I think you have to buy this coolpix just if you want for taking picture under the water or in the beach or something like that.
Question: Can you use eye fi with this camera, and if not, what are the minimum system requirements(Mac) for the CD download
Answer: I am not sure if it is a typo you really meant Eye-Fi. The Eyefi website did gives a thumbs-up on AW100; check out their compatibility list:http://support.eye.fi/cameras/and the result http://support.eye.fi/cameras/nikon/coolpix_aw100
Question: how long does the battery last
Answer: depending on use of the video option, I have found that the charge lasts for weeks with occasional use. Beware, though, if you plan on buying a backup battery. I bought one through amazon that only lasted a couple of recharge cycles before it went Kaput! Buy only a Nikon battery!

User questions & answers

Question: is it easy to send photos to social media (facebook, instagram, etc
Answer: Yes. I am not up on all the tech stuff but I have had no trouble sending photos to Facebook.
Question: Is "auto flash" feature unavailable in this model? some of the reviews state that the flash needs to be popped out manually even in the auto mode
Answer: Unfortunately yes, you must raise the flash before it will work even in auto-mode.
Question: Can you wear it around your neck
Answer: I carry it in my pocket. Yes, you could buy a larger strap for it but personally I have my DSLR around my neck. Why both? Not really necessary but sometimes it has the better distance shot than my Nikon 28- 200 lens.
Question: Does anyone have this model for quite sometime? I'd like to get some feedback on picture quality and reliability. Is this model preferred over S
Answer: I own both the sS9700 and the S9900.Because both models use the same lens and BSI CMOS image sensor, so you can pretty much expect to see zero differences between identical pictures taken by both cameras at the same time. The big differences between the S9700 and the newer S9900 is the manual flash release and articulated viewing screen on the S9900. The manual flash release was hated by people used to the automatic pop up flash like the S9700 has, but I found the automatic flash very annoying on the S9700 since it was always activating because the lens is not very forgiving in low light situations or if even a small amount of zoom magnification is used.I take a lot of pictures using existing light such as indoors where a flash would disturb others and leaving the flash retracted on the S9900 lets the camera know it must adjust the exposure to take a picture using just the available light. Using the s9700 under the same condition meant overriding the flash every time it popped up in order to take an existing light picture and that really got old fast. The articulated screen is nice to have but of limited use for me. It is nice to be able to turn the screen inward to use the camera body for protection, but if you do that you will need to flip the screen back outwards before you can use the camera which detracts from keeping it handy for that quick and impulsive picture. I normally carry the S9900 in a pocket case with the screen already facing out. The best carry case for the camera only is the padded case for the WD portable 2.5" hard drives. These can be easily found on Amazon or eBay for under $5.00One very useful addition on the S9900 that is also found on newer Nikon cameras is an additional control dial on the top of the camera nearthe shutter release. This control wheel normally has the same function as the scrolling wheel around the control button group on the camera back. This allows for quick dedicated control of the same functions as the scroll wheel on the camera back except that it is easier to access and rapid movement of it only affects the scrolling function without the chance of accidentally pushing in on the edge of the scrolling wheel on the camera back which would be treated as a button push by the other functions attached to the control on the camera back. Once you get used to using this feature properly it will be hard to go back to using the older controls. The S9900 can also be ordered in silver and black. The design of this case in the two colors makes it look like a classic camera from the past and it appears to be a bit more sturdy as well. These are all reasons why I am happy with the S9900 however I still use my S9700 because the cheaper looking and feeling case of the S9700 really doesn't look like anything and therefore it is easier to use for "street photography" where you might not want to advertise very strongly you are taking pictures in public. If you set the S9700 for the non automatic scene selection mode, you can over ride the automatic flash and not worry about it popping up until you change exposure modes. The flash override setting will stay set until you change exposure modes and stay set even if you power down and restart the camera. This means I still find my S9700 useful and it was not replaced by the S9900 when I started using it.

User questions & answers

Question: can someon tell me more about how the GPS feature is used? with the jpeg on my laptop how would I use the fact that the jpeg is "tagged" with GPS for
Answer: I don't want latitude and longitude coordinates on my pics (although that's available in the settings). One advantage of Geotagging photos is the camera automatically sorts pictures by region of country/location. Unfortunately, that's the only benefit of a GPS enabled camera that I've found.
Question: Can you use the WIFI feature to send photos to a Windows PC (instead of transferring the photos by USB cable connection
Answer: At the present I believe it only works with iPads, iPhones, and Android powered devices. A windows app is rumored to be in the works, but as far as I know, it isn;t available as of yet. It does work great on my Samsung tablet.
Question: Is there a lag between hitting the shutter button and when it takes the picture? I have had several digitalis that did this
Answer: I have experienced this lag on prior digital cameras too. This camera has no appreciable lag and the batteries last a long time without charging. Although I have only had it for a month, I really like it - not too small or too large and it takes great video too.
Question: What is the battery life? How is the battery charged
Answer: The battery that comes with this camera lasts for about 350 shots on a single charge. The battery charges through the use of the supplied external charger.

User questions & answers

Question: How does this guy do with shots of the night sky? Thanks
Answer: With a maximum lens opening of f2.8 this camera has better light gathering capability than almost any other travel zoom camera. Most travel zoom cameras have a maximum lens opening of f3.5 or as small as f4.2 which means the image sensor with an f2.8 lens can get a proper exposure with roughly half the available light the other cameras need. A lot of competing cameras also have much higher pixel counts than the 16 mega pixels this cameras sensor. This comes at a price though. The other cameras with the higher pixel count have the same or smaller physical sized sensors and the higher pixel count crammed onto the same amount of sensor surface area means each individual pixel is physically smaller than the 16 megapixel used here and by being smaller has less surface area to expose to light and this yields a much poorer and noisy image quality which shows up as unwanted off color light specks in what should be a dark part of the image. Most hand held night shots will require longer exposures. To get the best shot hand held, try to hold the camera steady and lean against something solid to reduce any body shake which cannot be avoided. Your best bet for really low light pictures is to use a tripod. When I do this the best way to avoid moving the camera when it is on a tripod is to use the self timer function to trigger the exposure. One other tip. The cameras GPS system stays active even if the camera part is powered down by default because the GPS system has to acquire more than 3 satellites to get a position fix. This really eats up the batteries. You have the option of setting the GPS off or having it only powered up when the camera is turned on. I have mine set to turn on the GPS when the camera is powered up, but getting a position fix may take as much as a minute. This is no problem for me since I generally take more than one picture at a location and it will usually be locked on a location before I have taken all the pictures I want at any location. Also the best camera case for traveling as a pocket camera is to use any of the cheap padded cases being sold that fit 2.5 inch portable hard drives.
Question: Does it come with charger
Answer: The camera has an internal charger through the mini USB below the battery. There is a green charging light on the back in the upper right corner which is should come on blinking until charged when it should remain on continuously. I have read if the battery drops below a certain charge it supposedly cannot be recharged. I am currently having an issue with the internal charger on mine.
Question: Can this camera attach to a tripod
Answer: I haven't tried to attach it to a tripod, but there is a screw in spot on the bottom of camera for attaching.
Question: does the flash recycle fast
Answer: Yes. Haven't had any issues so far. Great camera.
