14 best macro digital cameras

Macro digital cameras, also known as macro cameras, are a specific type of digital camera designed for capturing close-up and highly detailed shots of small objects or subjects. They are widely used in various fields, including photography, science, and industry. Here's what you need to know about macro digital cameras:

  1. Purpose: Macro cameras are specifically designed to capture extreme close-up images of subjects, often revealing intricate details that are not visible to the naked eye. They are ideal for photographing small objects like flowers, insects, jewelry, and other tiny subjects.

  2. Macro Photography: Macro photography is a genre of photography that focuses on capturing subjects at a 1:1 scale or larger. This means that the subject in the image appears life-size or even larger than life-size. Macro cameras excel at this type of photography due to their unique features.

  3. Lens Design: One of the most critical components of a macro digital camera is its lens. Macro lenses are designed to allow for close focusing distances, often as close as a few centimeters from the subject. They can achieve high levels of magnification without distortion.

  4. Resolution: Macro digital cameras often have high-resolution sensors to capture fine details accurately. This is crucial when photographing small subjects where every detail matters.

  5. Lighting: Proper lighting is essential in macro photography. Many macro cameras come with built-in or attachable ring lights or LED lighting systems to illuminate the subject evenly and reduce shadows.

  6. Manual Focus: Macro cameras often have manual focus controls to allow the photographer to precisely control the focus point. This is crucial for achieving sharp and detailed macro shots.

  7. Tripods and Stabilization: Given the extreme close-up nature of macro photography, any slight camera movement can result in blurry images. Tripods or other stabilization methods are commonly used with macro cameras to ensure steady shots.

  8. Depth of Field: Macro photography often involves dealing with very shallow depth of field. Photographers may use techniques such as focus stacking to capture multiple images at different focus distances and combine them to create a fully focused image.

  9. Applications: Macro digital cameras are used in various fields, including scientific research, entomology, product photography, and artistic photography. They are valuable tools for professionals and hobbyists alike.

  10. Brands and Models: Several camera manufacturers produce macro digital cameras, including Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Olympus. Each brand offers a range of models with varying features and capabilities.

In conclusion, macro digital cameras are specialized tools designed for capturing extreme close-up images with high levels of detail. They are equipped with features such as macro lenses, high-resolution sensors, manual focus controls, and proper lighting to facilitate this type of photography. Whether you're a professional photographer or a hobbyist, macro digital cameras open up a world of creative possibilities for capturing the intricacies of small subjects.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the filter size or is that an Olympus trade secret
Answer: Greetings,Don't buy ANY accessory until you KNOW you NEED it. Color filters are an excellent example. Only after you become accomplished as an observer should you consider filters. Carefully research the type and focal length eyepiece you need to build a good set. Three are all one really needs - low, medium and high. A Barlow may be a good idea to double your eyepiece collection but get the proper Barlow. Don't duplicate what eyepieces you already have. Stick with a 2x or 2.5x Barlow. But get your eyepieces first! That will determine the Barlow requirement. I prefer full eyepiece sets, others prefer to use Barlows. The 127 Mak, with its long f/ratio and excellent optics is very forgiving with eyepieces. Inexpensive eyepieces will be superior performers with it though they would fall flat with fast ratio Newtonians, for instance. And keep the number of elements in the eyepiece to a minimum. Many elements rob you of light which is a precious thing with just 5" aperture. I can highly recommend the Agena Dual ED Starguiders. They are top notch performers with generous fields of view; flat fields; excellent color correction; suitable for deep sky, planetary, or binary star work; with a great build quality at a reasonable price.http://www.amazon.com/Agena-1-25-Starguider-Dual-Eyepiece/dp/B00YFZQ33OSteve Franks
Question: Will this lense fit the Olympus EM
Answer: Greetings, Pragmatically speaking, the Maksutov is one of the best and most robust optical systems. Between the 5" vs 4". The 5" will give noticeably brighter images, better contrast, split finer binary stars, see more planetary detail with improved contrast, etc. Given they are both the same design instrument, the answer is easy. The 5" is a much better choice hands down. The 5" brings you to an instrument where Deep Sky observing becomes worthwhile. As for light gathering, I used my 4" f/15 Unitron refractor, side by side with a 127SLT on several observing sessions a few years ago. I would favorably compare the 5" Mak very nearly equal to a 4" classical refractor in terms of light gathering, contrast and resolution. I would hazard a guess the the 4" Mak would probably be a tad brighter than a 3" refractor. And there is a considerable difference between the performance of a 4" refractor as compared to a 3" refractor. The same would be true with between a 5" vs 4" Maksutov. Regards, Steve Franks
Question: My sample feels much tighter/resists more than my similar lenses when i twist it onto omd bodies your lens, too? or did i get a strange sample
Answer: I think the most amazing response to that question can be found here: https://stargazerslounge.com/topic/126567-celestron-nexstar-127-slt-or-nexstar-130-slt/ To quote "These are both 5" telescopes so not terribly different from what you'd see in a 6". Obviously significantly different from what you'd see in a 12". Given that they both have the same size objective size, both telescopes will show you the same level of detail as regards deep space objects. There are two major differences between the two telescopes:1. The 127 mm in a Maksutov (Google the term if you don't know what it is). This means that it's got a closed tube. The 130 mm is a Newtonian, which has an open tube with a secondary mirror supported by a 4-vane spider. The Newt will show diffraction spikes but the Mak won't. The impact of these is really just aesthetic. They won't degrade contrast. The open-tube design will cool faster than the closed-tube and it more resistant to dew formation. You will need a dew-shield and maybe a heater to keep dew from forming on the front corrector plate of the Mak. The Mak will need little or no alignment prior to each use. The Newtonian will need alignment prior to use. Alignment isn't hard and it shouldn't be an impediment to owning a Newtonian, but a lot of beginners allow it to influence their choice. This is fine, of course.2. The real difference, in my eyes, is that the Newt is f/5 and the Mak is just under f/12. This affects the magnifications you can usefully achieve. Both telescopes will reach their highest useful power so you can, in practice, magnify equally with both scopes. It's just that you'll need to use shorter focal length eyepieces or a Barlow lens to achieve this with the Newt. This is no problem. At the lower end, however, you will get much wider fields of view with the Newtonian. This will make the larger star clusters more pleasing to the eye. However, the Newtonian will display an aberration known as coma at the edges of the field of view. This will make the edges blurry. Cheaper eyepieces will also display astigmatism (blurry field edges, basically) in the Newt but will do so to a much lesser degree in the Mak. The upshot is that you will tend to get wider fields in the Newt, but these will show some degree of blurriness unless you spend a lot of money on correctors and more expensive eyepieces. The Mak will have a sharper field and more pin-point stars. This gives the perception of greater contrast. The downside is that the field of view will be smaller. It won't be obscenely narrow by any means, just more narrow than the Newt. It's really a case of horses for courses. Both are probably good telescopes for starting out. The Mak may give more pleasing views more easily, so I would perhaps consider that more carefully. I would also forget about connecting a camera to either of these scopes. Astrophotography a very involved thing and you probably won't get good results with those mounts. Start off with visual then thinking about photography later."
Question: What would be the advantage of using this macro lens over using my 12-40 mm Pro lens? I'm interested in doing close ups on flowers
Answer: It doesn't matter what aperture it has, nor any other parameter. My recomendation to you is to stay away from this product. It is of the lowest quality possible and you will not be able to focus it on anything. DON'T BUY IT

User questions & answers

Question: what is the lens (mm) for UV filter
Answer: I use 40.5mm Hoya filters on my TG-6 and TG-5.
Question: I bought a fuji xp, highly rated as well, but was disappointed with the overall quality, underwater looked flat. should i expect better from this
Answer: The Olympus TG-6 will produce very good UW images if used it correctly. Ideally the underwater mode is selected and the correct white balance depth is chosen. UW photography helps tremendously from having clear water and strong frontlit sunlight with no clouds . You also usually need to get pretty close to your subject. Without those you may need strobes or to use a flash. If want to learn more about TG UW photography google "tg-5 backscatter tutorial". In some cases after all that, the images yes will be a bit flat and you will need to do some post-processing. TG-6 images are good quality and tend to respond well to PP, especially if you use a raw file and a raw editor like light room. You can also use a free editor like Gimp...which can easily take care of flat image. Gimp > Color > Brightness-Contrast > Contrast (crank it right and the flatness should magically go away). Gimp can also do a good job with white balance correct (although LR is likely better at both tasks).
Question: Does this camera come with a lens cover
Answer: No. In spite of this, I have never smudged the lens. It is recessed enough that even when doing VERY close-up macro shot, the lens stays clean. If you are going to chuck the camera into a (filthy) jacket pocket, then something like the Olympus Lens Barrier LB-T01 would be for you. I have used the Olympus CLA-T01 Conversion Lens Adapter which comes with the traditional clamp-on lens cover. It usually stays in-place. For real dirty and dusty locations, I use a screw-on UV filter to keep the optics from getting scratched by wind-driven grit. I hope this helps.
Question: What is the difference between the tg5 and the tg6? the specs are virtually identical
Answer: There are some noteworthy improvements. Chromatic aberration is reduced, the purple orb issue has been reduced, you can now shoot microscope videos and you can use aperture mode with microscope mode. The TG-6 images are also a bit darker and less likely to be over-exposed. I think there is an improvement in image quality. The TG-6 is also a bit more rugged (thicker lcd, better for reduction, etc). The biggest improvement is in the lcd screen.

Product description

1. Heavy-duty construction assuring underwater shooting down to 14 meters, for up to two hours The solid, airtight body common to the WG-70 is not only waterproof down to a depth of 14 meters for up to two hours of continuous operation (equivalent to IPX 8 or JIS Class 8), but is also shockproof against falls from a height of 1. 6 meters, * dustproof (equivalent to IPX 6 or JIS Class 6), freeze-proof to temperatures as low as -10°C, and crushproof against weights up to 100kgf (kilogram force). ** Thanks to this heavy-duty construction, the cameras perform superbly and dependably even in harsh, demanding outdoor conditions. 2. Exceptional image quality The WG-70 comes equipped with a back-illuminated CMOS image sensor, which assures excellent high-sensitivity and low-noise characteristics and high-speed readout of image data signals. Coupled with a high-performance imaging engine, this image sensor delivers a top sensitivity of ISO 6400 and super-high-resolution images with approximately 16. 0 effective megapixels. These models also provide advanced image processing functions, made possible by the latest super-resolution technology, to assure sharp, clear, high-resolution images. They even offer such innovative features as Handheld Night Snap mode, which automatically captures several images of the same nighttime scene and produces a single, blur-free composite image from them. 3. Improved usability of Digital Microscope mode The WG-70 has a Digital Microscope mode that allows the subject to be greatly enlarged. Usability is improved as the recording size can be newly selected from 2M (1920 x 1080), which gives priority to enlargement with digital zoom, to a maximum of 12M (16: 9) (4608 x 2592), which is useful when printing or trimming with high resolution which further expands the field of shooting. 4. Six Macro Lights to assist close-up shooting, with various functions Ideally positioned around the circumference of the lens barrel for macro shooting, six LED Macro Lights allow the WG-70 to provide bright, uniform illumination on a subject when the Digital Microscope mode is selected. *** Thanks to these Macro Lights, the user can clearly see a magnified view of the microscopic world undetectable by the naked eye on the camera’s LCD monitor, and effortlessly capture eye-catching, close-up images. In order to minimize camera shake and subject shake, the Instant Illumination Enhance function allows for the use of a higher shutter speed by automatically raising the discharge level of the Macro Lights at the moment of shutter release. The Macro Lights also provide other useful functions, such as a Self-Portrait Assist mode, which uses the blink of an LED lamp to check if the subject’s face has been safely captured within the picture frame, and the LED Lighting mode, which uses the Macro Lights as a lighting device in the dark. 5. Advanced underwater shooting mode Specifically designed for underwater photography, the image processing of Underwater and Underwater Movie shooting modes optimize color, contrast, and white balance, based on the data of images captured under the water. These modes deliver sharp, true-to-life images by enhancing shades of red, which are lost in underwater photography, while effectively compensating for the loss of contrast caused by the diffusion of light in water. During Underwater mode, the Flash Off + Flash On option, allows the user to consecutively capture two images — with a single shutter release — one without flash and another with flash. 6. Cross Processing added to Image Tone Cross Processing is an effect popular among our products, which allows you to enjoy unique photographic expressions. With WG-70, this mode is added to Image Tone, which can be selected with several shooting modes including, P (Program). The parameters of the image is adjusted to give a unique color-changed finish, like a cross-processed film ***. 7. 5X optical zoom lens with a 28mm wide-angle coverage The WG-70 feature a high-performance, five-times optical zoom lens with a focal-length coverage from 5mm to 25mm (equivalent to approx. 28mm to 140mm in the 35mm format) to accommodate a wide range of scenes and subjects, including sweeping landscapes. They also provide other convenient shooting functions, such as a macro mode to capture dramatic close-up images from a minimum focusing distance of a mere one centimeter; an Intelligent Zoom function to extend the zoom range to approximately 36 times (equivalent to 1008mm in the 35mm format) without compromising image quality, for superior telephoto photography; and an interval shooting mode, which comes in handy for fixed-point observation. 8. Full HD movie recording for extended shooting of high-quality movies The WG-70 provides Full HD movie recording employing the H. 264 recording format. Users can capture high-quality, extended movie clips (1920 x 1080 pixels, 16: 9 proportions) at a frame rate of 30 frames per second. To add some creative touches to movie recording, they also feature a high-speed camera function**** for slow-motion playback of captured movie clips, and an interval movie function. A micro-HDMI terminal (Type D) is also provided on the camera body for simultaneous output of Full HD movie clips and sound to external audio-visual devices. 9. Triple anti-shake protection to prevent blurred images in all applications Pixel Track SR mechanism When recording still images, this advanced shake-reduction mechanism effectively compensates for camera shake by digitally processing affected images. Digital SR mode When the camera detects low-lighting conditions in still-image shooting, this mode automatically raises the sensitivity up to as high as ISO 6400, making it possible to use a higher shutter speed and effectively minimize the adverse effect of camera shake and subject shake when dealing with poor lighting conditions. Movie SR mode During movie recording, this mode effectively compensates for the misalignment of images caused by camera shake through the use of exclusive software to produce beautiful, blur-free movie clips. 10. 2. 7-inch LCD monitor with the Outdoor View Setting mode The WG-60 come equipped 2. 7-inch LCD monitor with horizontally extended 16: 9 proportions and approximately 230, 000 dots. The monitor’s AR (Anti-Reflection) coating minimizes annoying glare and reflections to assure a sharp, clear on-screen image even in the harsh sunshine often encountered during outdoor shooting. It also comes equipped with such convenient features as: the Outdoor View Setting mode, which easily sets the optimum monitor brightness level for a given lighting condition 11. Other features ・A range of WG-series mount accessories (optional) to accommodate diverse camera setups ・Two remote control receptors (one in front and another in the back) to widen signal coverage ・Macro stand (included) to maintain a minimum focusing distance of one centimeter to the subject during extended observation and shooting of macro images ・High-speed Face Detection function to capture as many as 32 faces in focus in approximately 0. 03 seconds (minimum); Smile Capture function to automatically release the shutter when the subject’s smile is detected ・Outdoor-friendly Style Watch function to display the time on the LCD monitor, using an extended push of the OK button when the camera’s power is turned off ・Delay-free, pushbutton start of the playback mode, using an extended push of the playback button ・Auto Picture mode to automatically select the most appropriate shooting mode from 16 different scene modes ・A choice of 12 digital filters

Question: How it’s shutter sound can be disabled
Answer: YES, the Camera Sounds can be modified under the Menu Section.
Question: Is it easy to change the iso level in the p mode ? usually i shoot in automatic, but also like to change iso , real basic stuff
Answer: Yes it’s very easy.
Question: Can this camera shoot in raw format
Answer: No, and the JPEG photo quality is that of iPhone 5s. Consider Panasonic LX20. Far better for $300 more. Even challenges Sony RX100 V, which is fragile lens design. LX20 and this Canon are better built.
Question: Would this be a good camera to use for concerts in low light
Answer: I bought the Canon G7X in 2015 because I wanted a point and shoot that was good in low light situations. The ISO goes up to 12800. The G7X is wonderful! I've used it in concerts and also numerous times for shows in the main theatre on cruises. My friends told me I couldn't take photos as flash was not allowed-no problem with my camera. Photos turned out great! There are newer versions now to the G7X. I've been happy with mine-worth the money.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i connect this camera to my computer with a usb
Answer: I have just purchased two of these (Elph 180). The first thing I noticed is that Canon has not improved the access door (battery/ sd card slot) in the many years since I had my first point& shoot Canon. (I have a canon rebel too - different story) The reason I am telling you this is that I urge you to buy a cable to download your shots, and clear the SD card from your camera. Every time you open and shut this little door, the weaker it becomes. Eventually you will be forced to tape the door shut to use the camera. I did this for years because I loved the camera. Finally I just got tired of it and bought the rebel. If the only time you have to open the door is to charge the battery, you will extend the usable life of the door HUGELY. As with most technology today, it's longevity depends on its weakest point. One of the two I purchased is for a 12 yr. old - I bought cables for both of us. My opinion: It's worth it because Canon still makes the best lenses.
Question: Does this have an automatic shutoff If I forget to turn it off
Answer: I don`t think so. But you`ll know if it`s on. When it`s on, the lens moves way out. When it`s off, it retracts, so the camera is flat. It would be very hard to forget to turn the camera off, or forget you left it on.
Question: Do you have to remove the battery from the camera in order to charge it
Answer: Does this camera come with a charger? It says it comes with a rechargeable battery but it isn’t saying anything about a charger. And from looking at other people’s comments I’m thinking it doesn’t come with a charger. So if not then what are you suppose to do cause it’s not regular batteries it’s the rectangle flat battery
Question: I notice the usb cable has to be purchased separately. does this camera require any special type of usb cable
Answer: The camera uses sd memory, so you dont need usb cable if your computer has a sd slot

User questions & answers

Question: The scope works fine on my pc, but, using an otc cable, my kindle and android phone won't recognize it using the apps mentioned here. what works
Answer: The resolution depends upon the software used to drive microscope. I use an Apple MacBook Pro. The initial directions from Opti-TekScope was to use Apple's Photo Booth, but when I used this method the highest resolution available was 640 x 480. I contacted the company, and they directed me to a piece of (free) 3d party software (Digital Viewer). The Digital Viewer software allows resolution settings of 160x120, 176x144, 320x240, 352x288, 640x480, 800x600, 1280x960, and 1600x1200. I don't know what type of resolutions are available when using a non-Apple product.
Question: can I use my samsung android phone instead of a computer with this scope
Answer: Yes, made in USA.
Question: Is the field of view large enough to get a whole picture of a larger coin say silver dollor size with good magnification and detail
Answer: Yes, color record
Question: What's the resolution of the image captured? ie: 640x480? 1024x768? 1080x
Answer: Yes,include a 32GB card ,and max memory of the sd card is 256GB

Exploring...

The advent of macro lens diopters has swept away one of the most challenging problems in image capture: how to shoot macro without a pile of special expensive gear. Now you can get down, dirty and close in the image capture business and make macro the digital way with a 100% success rate.

You're not alone when saying macro photography is an absorbing activity: to be able to reach in and record an image that is not easily visible to the naked eye is an attractive option. There is nothing more gratifying than to make a huge print of an insect, rock specimen or any small object that is normally so tiny to the naked eye and captured with the technique of macro photography.

In the old days of film, to shoot macro, aside from the requirement of using an SLR camera, you needed a few add-ons to take highly magnified images of extremely small subjects. You could begin by attaching a huge converter lens to the front of the existing standard lens … this would convey a degree of magnification. You could also install extension tubes between your normal lens and the camera body. You could also acquire a set of macro bellows and place them between lens and body; and finally, you could invest in an expensive, and optically superb, bayonet style macro lens dedicated solely to macro shooting.

These days, it’s done in a jiffy! With a digital camera and these macro lens diopters. Novices are surprised by how easy it is to capture really, big shots of tiny subjects. Some images taken by newbies have been noticed by Nature magazines. That’s how good they are!

In truth, you can make digital macro photography as basic or as complex as you wish it to be: even with a budget of 200 Dollars you can capture images of the tiny world before you, subjects as small as a matchbox, a match-head or even tinier. The higher-priced compact cameras can do it even better, some offering with a powerful zoom lens, so you can attach these macro lenses and stand back a bit.

A True Macro Lens

Digital Nc's advanced two-element achromatic macro lenses turn your video or photography lens into a true macro lens. They provide lenses with more close-up range and magnification, without compromising image quality. They are also designed to maintain a flat field and edge-to-edge sharpness without chromatic aberration or image degradation.

They provide dramatically shorter MOD (Minimum Object Distance). This is essential whenever it is necessary to focus tightly on a small subject with a long lens - in tabletop, miniature and flat field videography. For example, add this 10x diopter to a 14x lens with an MOD of 40", and bring it down to 2", filling the frame with a subject as small as 3/4" across.

Made to withstand the elements with a heavy duty, water-repellent chassis. The sturdy, long-lasting material is double bonded so it will hold up and keep your glass protected for years to come. Made with fade-resistant materials to retain its original crystal lens for years to come.
